Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) vowed Tuesday that, in her presidency, gasoline prices would fall back to less than $2 per gallon.
Bachmann, speaking to a town-hall meeting in South Carolina, said she would pursue energy policies that send pump prices down to levels not seen since early 2009, at the thick of the U.S. recession.
“Under President Bachmann you will see gasoline come down below $2 per gallon again,” she said in Greenville. “That will happen.”
Bachmann and other GOP White House contenders are calling for much more aggressive U.S. oil drilling — her campaign backs drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and wider offshore production, alleging President Obama has placed too many restrictions on development.
Despite Bachmann’s vow to ease consumers’ costs, however, U.S. officials have few options to substantially affect gasoline prices, especially in the near- or medium-term.

Michele will pursue a “drill baby drill” policy (among other energy policies) which is something that this administration could have done if they weren’t so anti-oil industry. The have continually attacked the oil industry as corporate bullies when in actuality their profit margin is lower than many industries–yet, Obamanamation’s big-business buddies escape his criticisms. Obamanation is the ultimate “crony-capitalist-socialist.”
I have to say I’d believe her more than Obama. She’s not trying to destroy America or put all of big business either out of business or moved out of the country . She is also not part of the Bilderberg group. Obama is only doing what those that fronted him by hurting big business. See one goal of the Bilderbergs below.
The remaining Canadian and American industries will be exported to poor countries such as Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Nicaragua, etc., where slave labor is cheap. One of the principal objectives for NAFTA will then be realized; empowering the United Nations until it becomes a demure, as well as a de facto, world government. Advancing this goal by creating a direct UN tax on “world citizens,” expanding NAFTA throughout the Western Hemisphere as a prelude to creating an “American Union” similar to the European Union; establishing NATO as the UN’s world army.
There is more info but the bottom line is taking business (jobs) from here and sending them overseas. Aren’t they doing that already?
That is really scary. Where did you find your information? Perry is part of the Bilderberg group too, right? Unfortunately, he will probably win the nomination.
If they want the price of gasoline to fall Congress needs to allow for more refineries to be built, they have not allowed this for quite a while.
You can produce as much Oil as you want, but without the refineries you get no gasoline.
Which means that the price is controlled by supply (refineries) and demand for product.
If there is little or no demand the price will drop, no supply means when the demand goes up, the price goes up!
I forgot to say inconclusion that the only way Bachman could make the price of gasoline drop would be for her to get Congress to allow for more refineries, she would have a lot of talking and deal making to do to get it done!
I’m sure that’s part of the strategy. I have ehard many Republicans saying the same thing as Michele–including several of the other candidates–which is great that many of them are on the same page regarind energy sources.
I hope so!!! But when everything makes sense (LOL) look what happens. One thing for darn sure…we will need more Senators, keep the Congress and Bachmann.
No, the price would drop because of the easing of speculation, but it may not be sustainable without the ability to increase refining.
Time to go to war with the EPA too!
SHE HAS NO MUSLIME TIES. THAT IS A BLESSING.

We can also build a new refinery! Do you like putting yourself in such a small box? Let’s not drill because we don’t (yet) have a refinery. C’mon!
CaptainPJ,She’s the only TRUE Tea Party Conservative that’s running(unless Sarah jumps in)!!!
You are right Captain PJ but Ms. Bachmann won’t be able to see the $2.00 gas price during her term unless the markets make it so.
Infrastructure is the problem, not the technology. They say this would take 10 years but this is an exaggeration. If we began now, it would be a possibility and none to soon.
THIS IS ALL WELL AND GOOD BUT DIDN’T OBUMMER PROMISE THE SAME THING “IF ELECTED”?
PLUS ENDING THE WARS WELL HE HASN’T DONE THAT, GOT US INTO ANOTHER WAR WITHOUT CONGRESS’S APPROVAL, WHY ISN’T ANYONE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THE FAKE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?
THEY KEEP PATTING HIM ON THE BACK, SOME ONE NEEDS TO STICK A KNIFE IN THEIR HAND.
HE NEEDS TO BE IMPEACHED NOW NOT LATER OR TOMORROW, NOW .
there maybe needs to be a fund set up to help pay for cost and keep the heat on this clown over his SS#,Birth cert. his taxes on his home anything and everything about this fake fight fire with fire
There are multiple organizations trying hard to just that & which I’ve supported & anyone else can also support.
YOU GOT THE CLOWN PART RIGHT.

HEY CHAMMY, WE ARE GAUD DAMMN SICK & TIRED OF THE nobammy admin !!!!!! THAT’S WHY WE WRITE IN CAPITALS TO EXPRESS OUR DISGUSTS!!!!!
Ya can’t do ay thing you promise to the world if you don’t believe you can or will yourself. Boobus Obumus is all pout of steam. He should just roll over and play dead until Jan 2013.
Before some body does it for him
Please don’t make wild promises. The prices of commodities and fuel will come down IF AND WHEN the government is straightened out and run HONESTLY. Get our economy moving again so people can work.
well supply and demand, we have enough oil in Pennsylvania to last another 100 years, yeah the price would go down! all the trading isn’t going to make a differecne with that type of supply! just sayin
And that’s not to mention the amount of oil in Colorida and Utah, boinkz. America doesn’t need to destroy her beauty and her obligation to nature.
I firmly believe that the wealthy oil companies should be obligated to preserve. I also firmly believe that a percentage of their profits should be set aside for the express purpose of cleaning up after themselves.
If you remember . . . just opening up areas for drilling under Bush brought the price of oil down considerably. Of course the Bamster quickly closed this off once in office.
Didn’t Obumbler say “Energy prices will increase dramatically”??? Now we are getting all the “Green” nonsense . . . even though it fails everywhere in the world . . eg: Spain.
Obummer wanted gas prices to go to 7$/gallon so it would be closer to Europe. I have a better suggestion, lets send him to Europe, one way. If he comes back, send him to Somalia.
Lots of new jobs will be created when gas comes down to $2. All that extra cash in ones pocket is the best way to expand the economy. People will spend what no longer goes into the Arab deep pockets, that will create sales, that will create hiring, that will lead to more national spending. That will expand the economy. And don’t forget the reversal of the trade imbalance when we start to export the surplus. The environmental movement became too fanatical and has destroyed the worlds economy. Remember the flix American Graffiti? When kid can afford a jalopy and the gsas to run it…then you will know the economy is healthy.
then the question to ask would be ‘what kind of time frame are we talking about’ to get the gas prices down to 2.00 and if you fail to achieve that goal are you willing to resign afterwards

I agree with Michele completely. Opening up drilling will stop the the speculation immediately, even before the long term effect kicks in.
If we can’t refine it, we can become a bigger player on the world oil market. Might upset the Venezuelan FatMan a bit as well.
Drill, drill, drill, great idea and I agree but what good is that w/o new refineries. I want energy independence, promise that and you have my vote. That’s what your domestic drilling argument should be. Without increased refining capacity the low price is not realistic at least in the long run.
Cut back on the environmental regs that prohibit the construction of a refinery anywhere. It cost too much with litigation and battling the Sierra club.

I’ll put a refinery in my FRONT yard if the government will allow it. I am NOT alone.
I forgot to say the companies that would operate the refineries would LOVE to pay for them.
Why do these people make so many promises they are unable to keep like this one about the Gas prices how could she make the cost of gasoline drop to that level. She needs to tell the whole country how she can accomplish that.
It’s really pretty simple. The oil prices are artifically manipulated by a cartel (OPEC) and dramatically affected by speculators who react to mid-east tensions/wars because we are so controlled by their supplies. As soon as this country is actually allowed to pursue it’s own national reserves (artic/offshore/shale) the speculators/OPEC will no longer be able to artifically jack up the prices. I recall reading that the actual cost of production in the mid-east for a barrel of crude is about $2-$6/barrel while they sell it for up to $70-$100/barrel (I’d say a pretty good profit margin). Anyone that intends to “Drill-baby-drill” for our own resources can be pretty sure that gas prices will drop dramatically.
It’s real simple Larry . . . start drilling holes . . . everywhere . . . prices will drop by 50% . . . its called Supply and Demand. $4 a gallon gas is the result of the Clueless Won in the WH Banning drilling!!!
Just electing HER would cause Wall Street to go up,and GAS prices to go down!!!!
Can you imagine the boost to jobs and the positive impact on the economy if we did “Drill Here, Drill Now”?
It would be great.
Promises best left unpromised. They can bite you in the butt big time later. Sounds like a “read my lips” moment.

sounds more like your running off the mouth wouldnt be unreasonable to get gas down to 2.00 if the rest of the world knew we were serious about being energy free once all the regulations were gone and we started drilling you would see foreign oil prices drop rather quickly
And The 1/2 white guy ain’t?
If any pro-energy conservative is elected, the price of gas will start dropping IMMEDIATELY the day after the election.
By the same token, if Obama stopped all of his “no drilling in America” b.s. and opened up drilling in all of the U.S., the gulf, offshore east/west coasts, and ANWR, the price of gas would drop like a rock tomorrow. But…he won’t.
A conservative however WILL! And we will have prosperity in this nation again!
Actually, NOTHING Obama does will reduce fuel prices. NO ONE will believe he actually intends to keep his promise.
Michele KNOWS we have over 500 + years of oil in our NORTH MID WEST states, there is more oil there than all the arab oil combined. she will have the Guts to use it….and rid we the people of the arab control over our nation….
Actually…gas prices would drop significantly if Oil Rich Nations knew we were committed to drilling for our own. This is not an empty promise…it’s a fact. Bachman is absolutely correct.
Woolfy, I disagree that Bachmann is absolutely correct — if she stated that as a declarative fact. She can not know anything beyond knowing that she will be in favor of drilling. Any Republican candidate running will be in favor of drilling. That is a given; but, it is not a given that they will be able to get the necessary legislation through Congress, especially the Senate.
I agree that other nations would be more cooperative if they knew that we were committed to drilling for our own oil. But, we should not think that other nations do not factor in the unwillingness of the Democrats/Liberals in the U.S. Senate in their calculations of what we are committed to.
As much as I want to see him replaced, it is not just Obama that has us virtually enslaved to the whims of oil producing countries. This has been going on for a long time; and, we can thank the liberals in the U,S. Senate for that sorry state of affairs.
Its already been proven, the Gulf oil spill an inside job, then the USURPER adds great restrictions to US drilling, now his relative peoples, get trillions of extra dollars as the planned result, while America openely is being taken over by them and their laws as well, and Homeland Security has a new video, the white middle class are the terrorists of America now,UNBELIEVABLE!!!
America has lots of coal, gas & oil but environmental regulations, restrictions & lack of permits is preventing us from fully utilizing them. Our dependence of foreign oil has increased & is crippling us economically. Also, a big part of the cost of oil depends on the Market’s perception on what will occur in the future. Even if it took years for the USA to drill/dig up new energy sources, if the Market believed we would do it, the price of natural gas & oil today would drop! How much? I don’t know & I couldn’t guarantee it would drop to $2.00/gallon for gasoline… but it would drop a lot and it would put us on the right road… instead of the wrong road we are now on. With so much natural gas, we could also use that instead of gasoline as a truck/car engine fuel source… which would also put downward pressure on the cost of oil. Bachmann heads us in the right direction, Obama in the wrong direction.
Looks like Bachman has her eye on Palin for energy secretary. Go girls go.
I think it’s foolish for a candidate to make promises they know they can not keep — some one even say dishonest.
I do believe, however, that prices will drop if a conservative or even just a republican is elected because the entire world would know that they would pursue a policy of “drill baby drill“, a phrase first made popular by Newt Gingrich, by the way.
But, a president who favors drilling does not mean that it will automatically occur, even with all the good it would do for our economy and the nation as a whole. No one will doubt that George Bush was willing to drill; but, getting such an idea through Congress has proven a near impossible task for a very long time.
But, we should take the first two steps in 2012; Replace Obama with a republican president and elect a veto-proof Senate. Without the ability to get the appropriate legislation through the senate, we will be as doomed as ever.
This article by Michael O’Brien and Ben Geman spouts the same hopeless BS. Nothing can be done near-term! Oil futures would drop like a rock if we had an energy policy to utilize, develop our own energy recources.
Obama promised energy prices would “skyrocket” and he is just getting started. Drill, baby Drill!
My previous Patriot column Rising fuel prices: blame the Dems (and RINOs) explains why oil prices are high now. A corollary is that Bachmann’s promise is one that can be kept easily.
Nathaniel, I read your most impressive column alluded to in this post; but, was unable to deduce from it why you think Michelle’s promise can be easily kept — unless you know of some way she can make a democratic Senate go along with her desire to drill. Even your own column pointed out that the dems in the Senate, with the help of McCain, blocked the effort to drill in ANWR.
I would think that for Michelle, or any other Republican president, to get a democratic Senate to approve of drilling in ANWR or any other place would be anything but “easy”. We need to go further than replacing Obama. We are going to need a Republican Senate to have even a hope of improving our energy situation.
She won’t have to get a Democrat Senate to go along with anything. The voters that would put her in office would also shift the Senate to Republican control.
Hope you’re right; but still, which of the candidates do you believe would not do that? The thing is though, that no candidate, nor any poster can know that at this point. So, my concern about stating something as uncertain as that as if it were an absolute fact remains unchanged.
Even with Rick Perry getting in, I STILL LIKE MICHELE BACHMANN the best….
SHE IS TRUE TO HER WORDS…
All that needs to be done is to lift the Moritorium on drilling, open up all the existing oil rgis in the gulf, start new drilling on and off shores and in Alaska…
But first of all, what needs to be done is exact opposite of what Obama has done….Obama and the EPA has implemented soooo much REGULATION on OIL Companies that they cannot do anythin but sit back and wait just like all other businesses in this country until we get a new leader that respects America… By lifting all the regulation it will bring certainty to business and will allow them to move forward creating jobs…..\thus for the Oil Industry, it will pass along lower prices at the pumps to all of us….
I know that Rick Peryy and many of the others are somewhat in the same mind set, but You have to wander if coming from texas that he might somehow side with big oil and allow them to charge high prices at the pumps for massive profits, that would not help everyday Americans..
michele>>>> YOU GO GIRL
BACHMANN FOR 2012
Massive profits, John? You really should go to Nathaniel Davidson’s post of 11:40, (just minutes earlier than your own) and read the column he suggests. I have heard this excessive profits fallacy so often — and it just isn’t true. The “massive profits” gained at the pump go to some government, John, not big oil.
And, as for Bachmann being true to her word: I’m not so sure on this one about the prices of gas going down if she becomes president. There are some things that a president can do, on their own, that might have some impact on the price of gas at the pump. But, it is borderline silly for a candidate to make a statement like that when, they know, or should know, that it will require the cooperation of the Congress to have the kind of impact necessary to accomplish what she has promised.
And, the U.S. Senate, as it is presently constituted, simply is not going to do anything to help her keep that promise.
dfrank, Don’t “checkmate” yourself. We can have a new president and senate (if we make it to an election).
Drilling here (after we get the regulations lifted with a new president and senate) will drop oil prices substancially! It may take a little while to get that oil online, but the futures markets sets the oil price! Bring on natural gas ASAP and drill! WE could be energy independant in 4 years! Oil would drop like a rock with a leader (president) to lay out an energy independance plan.
Thanks for the heads up Randy, but, I don’t see any area of substantial disagreement in our positions. Perhaps I have not been sufficiently clear somewhere along the line.
My contention that one should be careful of making outright declarative statements regarding what will happen pending the outcome of an election, though, seems sound enough, in as much as the future, even if we could see it, is rarely completely within our power to control. A commitment to do all in one’s power to bring such and such about should suffice, if the candidate does indeed enjoy the trust of the voter.
On the broader point of what will be necessary to bring about this happy state of things (a president and Congress each friendly to the idea) we are in absolute agreement. But, the president can not do it alone. If you’ll notice my comments regarding this matter, I believe you will see that in each case I have attempted to encourage people to also keep an eye on our need to change the Senate’s attitude.
If I believed a candidate could, and would, do whatever he said he would do, he/she would have to promise me little more than to honor the Constitution, develop our own energy (not too keen on the green stuff), and open season on a number of the various agencies controlling our lives: EPA, DOE, Commerce Department and the like.
By the way, I caught that thing about “if we make it to an election.” We’re of like minds on that matter as well.
Pretty well agree, I’m investing in precious metals, primarily lead and brass!
If she can pull this off, I will be glad I voted for her! GO Girl, Go!
I thank that what i’v seen of Mrs.Bachmann, She is a classy lady
I agree with much of the above however there is still a department of the goverment that will need to be delt with — THE EPA.
Now Sgt, there’s a statement that can not be contested by any rational person. It might not be an overstatement to say that without looking into even one more area, we could get our country out of it’s economic doldrums simply by reconstituting the EPA along the lines of a “DO NO HARM” policy. Good Lord, we need to reign in that really reckless outfit!
Exactly!
And that’s why we need President Bachmann to appoint new heads to these rogue agencies.
How about Newt heading up the EPA?
Not only is it possible as our output can be increased substantially, but OPEC will panic and dump prices to maintain cash flow as it is falling now as the world economy slows.

And your boys 57 states made him look briliant, right?
Has anyone noticed that the Obamas have taken NO vacations to their own home?
Bush went to his ranch, Reagan went to his ranch, Jimmy Carter went to Plains and the list goes on and on.
Doesn’t it seem strange that they have to hit the high end vacay spots and NEVER seem to go to their own home? What are they afraid of there? Or is it just that they have a blank check to enjoy the best and we pay. I haven’t had a vacation in over 3 years. Their 9 vacations do not sit well with me.
To “The Hill” where this article came from. Minimizing the effect of drilling saying “It won’t do any good in the near or mid-term” is the same damed thing I’ve heard from you all since the days of Tip O’Neill and the Carter administration.
Drill here, drill there, drill everywhere and oil prices will drop like a rock! We have aboundant energy right here right now, but regulation has effectively “capped” any drilling/exploration causing energy prices to “Necessarily skyrocket” (Obama’s words)!
Time to drill!
Looks like Bachmann’s a shoe in! Gasoline was less than $2 per gallon in 2008, look at it today. History has proven when the price of energy goes down, the economy comes back up. So why is Obama still refusing to remove that stupid moratorium on off-shore drilling that is keeping hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work? Change is good: GET RID OF OBAMA!
If I were president I’d make domestic energy a national security priority, and instruct my DOJ to summarily dismiss all litigation that delays energy production. Instruct the other depts to facilitate the speedy development of domestic energy production.
This is the LEGITIMATE purpose of Executive Orders.
There is enough oil in the USA mainland and offshore to last us a long long time. Alternative fuel sources will become available before we run out. The dems have been against drilling for years and still today they are against it and use that same old excuse “We wont be able to benefit from drilling for at least 10 years” when if they had just shut up 20 years ago we would be enjoying the lower prices NOW! I am not sure who I will support in the next election but I am SURE it wont be obama, I am just not sure which conservative candidate I will choose. If it is Michelle Bachmann, I am sure she will do as she has promised and support drilling here and now! Just think how irrelevant the middle east will be when that happens. They will dry up and blow away in the sand where they should be! If obama was really trying to do good for America, HE would have done this already.

a great place to build new refineries would be the many closed military bases through out the U.S.A.
That’s what I like about Michelles’ strong stand on what is right for the people. Even though she would have to fight with congress and senate to achieve her goals, she wouldn’t back down and try to play a waiting game to succeed. If she has to appeal to the people to convince their house members to vote for the people, and not the political parties, she will do that. This is the fundamentals that she has built the Tea Party on. The $900 million subsidzes that the oil industry receives, that obama wants to eliminate to subsidize an illegal alien program, should be mandated to invest in refineries and up dated equipment. That in itself would create 1000′s of jobs. Then the Wall Street speculators that have created this economy breaking fuel cost problem would be out of a job. In 2006 when the democrates took control of congress(Nancy P. should I say) and rejected G. Bushs’ energy bill because he wanted to open Alaska up to drilling. George told them (dems.) to come up with an energy bill that he could sign. There has not been an energy bill since then. The only bill has been to TAX,TAX,TAX, energy so that it breaks the backbone of working class citizens. Which has lead to the recession that we are in now. Members of congress and the senate are informed by the SEC on what stocks are the best investments weeks in advance. If you’re not a politician, it is called inside trading. Ask Martha Stewart.
The last statement in the article above is total nonsense. The Congress and President can open up drilling and lower gasoline and overall energy prices below two dollars a gallon.
