After weeks of hyping the consequences of failure of the debt-ceiling supercommittee, lawmakers and political reporters will soon have to admit that it wouldn’t be such a big deal after all.
Failure, as the software industry joke goes, is not a bug. It’s a feature.
Power Play still expects the 12-member, bipartisan, bicameral group to cough up something on Wednesday – less than the $1.2 trillion in decreases to the size of future deficits, but at least the last bits of easy budgetary lifting to be done through accounting gimmickry, etc. But there is an increasingly more sanguine mood among lawmakers and staffers about the prospect of total failure.
That stems from two things. First, there are a considerable number on the right and left who aren’t so worried about the once-dreaded “sequestration.” While ultra hawks are adamant that there can be no cuts to Pentagon spending and hard-line liberals are in a rage over the idea that there would be any reduction to Medicaid, there is a growing sentiment for just letting the reductions happen.

I could be possible that this committee is nothing more than a smoke screen to hide what else the prez is doing. It’s not like he listens to congress so why would he listen to this supercommittee?
Why are these folks even being paid for this? A group of average citizens could get this one done in a week’s worth of coffee and donuts. Gosh, I have to do this kind of thing every month. I managed a $700,000 grant on my job with only two other people to add and check the numbers. Every person gets a straw for each expense. Toss in one straw for each expense. When you run out of straws, you get no more money.
For the Feds (and some states, like CA for example) to do anything simple and straightforward would be nothing short of a miracle. The fact of the matter is now more than ever, the CBO is purposely fudging the numbers for Obama’s benefit. As you said, when you run out of straws you get no more money. The politicians just refuse to accept that, and keep demanding more and more of the people’s labor and wealth to lavish on their cherished constituencies.
lets face it, that super committe is joke. The democrats, know the GOP wants to cut spending,And their is to cut nothing.that is called a mexican stand-off
Let me see. The combined congress could not come up with a plan to lower our spending. Pretty much along party lines. Now we get a smaller group of people with the same baggage the big group had and you expect something different. Just remember the definition of insanity. “Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.” And they wonder why their approval rating is so low. Like the last 8 years and especially since 2008 has worked so well.
Insane is right and please ‘fudge the numbers’ so what else is new?
I am sickened by their actions and then Barry just ignores them and goes to play golf. something is wrong here but have no idea where to start. A bunch of clowns we have up on the hill.
