Sessions warns of budget gimmicks in last-minute super committee deal

As the deficit reduction super committee remains gridlocked and predictions of failure abound, Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions warned Thursday that if the super committee does squeak out a last minute deal, people should be on guard for gimmicks that wouldn’t really cut spending.
Sessions, who has pushed against spending gimmicks and proposed the Honest Budget Act to expose them, warned of a deal made in the wee hours of the night with little oversight.
“It’s less than a week until the deadline, and no language has been made public, and the American people should be able to make their voice heard before the committee votes. Because the truth is, once that vote happens, there’ll be no opportunity to change their product,” Sessions said.
For instance, he said, the super committee could set a cap on war spending that was less than the baseline set by the Congressional Budget Office, and in that way claim they were making spending cuts. But since it would be less than the CBO baseline, that money would never have been spent in the first place.
Another possible gimmick by which the super committee could claim money was saved, he said, would be a proposal of tax increases now, to be balanced by spending cuts in future years.
“The pattern around here is, that once a tax increase is passed, it’s there,” Sessions said. “But a promise of a spending cut in the future very often does not become a reality.”

Gimmicks? Washington is the biggest gimmick there is and we are FORCED to pay for it all!
Your are right. We have a congress which accepts salaries to do the work of the American people, however, they have failed miserably. They were bought off before they ever left home for Washington. We have lived with the lies and millionaire lawmakers as long as we should. Vote all of the bozos out this next election.l
I sure didn’t expect they would come up with a budget. They may find a token few pennies to say they tried but you can bet there will be more spending than anything in it. And I also wonder besides the pork they’ll come up with but if they will stick something like gun control or another right they want to take away from us. Seems they like sticking stuff like that in any bill that sounds innocent but really isn’t.
you have got to relize 33% of us think we are on right track. WE have the power to fix this but can enought of us do whats right? VOTE for FREEDOM. the fix will hurt. but its a MUST DO.
The super committee is made up of some of the dumbest of the people in Washington DC so it has been planned all along that they would jest play games with the American people while doing as little as possible.
They will come up with something that is so small it is not worth the time they have waisted so it jest goes to prove the Federal Government is blowing smoke again and will continue to lie and cheat the people the same way they have been doing for so many decades now

ALL politicians, party makes NO difference, are there to protect each other first, then their money raisers, lobbyists, then their investment managers, last consituents, because voters have NO TRUTH, FACTS, Congress and administration controls propaganada you’ll get what they want, ONLY.Our ONLY hope is convervative third party or fourth or fifth, don’t care, but allowing corrupt two party politics means your wasting your time voting. Half the country already knows this and is practicing.

Voters sho0uld have been smart enough to exercise it, but see what professional politicians have learned, we gave them degrees in political science, never to have to work again, leach and live off uneducated tax payers, FACISM?? All they have to do is put all government workers including contract workers on a 36 hour week take their pay divide by 40 – 4 hours pay. They can work 4 9 hour days 1/2 can work mon.-thur. the other half Tue.- Frid. 2 trillion saved. I have sent this to Kyle its two easy
Better, fire 1/2 of all Govt workers and let the rest of them work a full week like most Americans do!! Our president keeps adding more and more workers. We have so many duplicate agencies doing the same thing! It’s really rediculous!!

Fire all gov workers. Start over. Only basics. Tell them to get real private jobs. Save whole debt in one year. Time to pay off debt, cut out corruption. Only new people allowed. Rest are banned for life. Deport all crooks, criminals, and illegals. Time to throw out the garbage. now.
Start with the president, then congress, then the Supreme Court. Follow that with eliminating the EPA, DHS, NLRB, Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Education Department. Then bring in the new President and Congress at 1/2 the pay with raises approved by the voters and returning to the Constitution as the guide for government.
Now, thats just a big bunch of crap. once they have voted on some sort of deal, there will be no chance to change it. Since when does anyone have the right to form some sort of committee that has such power, that we the people cannot change it, or even have any say in its being enforced. Our government is getting more and more like the type our ancestors fought a great war to get free of. There are no legal laws governing the citizens of these United States, other than those originated and enacted by our Congress. And any law that raises or lowers the revenue, must originate in The House of Representatives. Until the Constitution is amended to change it, that is the law of the land.

The super committee was formed to cut spending.
That is such a simple goal even a liberal should be able to understand it.
There was no mention of modifications of existing programs, changes in taxation levels, or adjustments of regulations regarding the national debt.
Just find enough spending cuts to equal 1.2 trillion over the next ten years in money ‘not spent’ by the government.
People incapable of such a simple task have no reason for being treated as leaders of our country.
