Al Qaeda Said to Plot Poison Attack on U.S.

The group behind last year’s failed Christmas Day bombing and the recent attempt to send two explosives-laden packages to the United States may be looking to attack U.S. food supplies, Fox News has learned.

A source with knowledge of the situation said authorities obtained information “a while ago” indicating a possible plot by associates of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula to target food at hotels and restaurants inside the United States, perhaps slipping harmful agents into salad bars or buffets.

“We don’t have a specific target or time frame, just the intent,” the source said.

Nevertheless, the source said, authorities are not convinced that Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula – or AQAP – has the capability to actually carry out such an attack.

CBS News was the first to report the threat information, noting that the plot may involve the use of ricin or cyanide. However, the source with knowledge of the situation told Fox News that authorities assessed AQAP’s capability to use those bio-agents in such a manner as “low.”

Officials from the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Agriculture, and Food and Drug Administration have briefed a small group of corporate security officers within the hotel and restaurant industries about the potential threat, according to the CBS News report.

Seems to me that these ‘authorities’ should be doing something more in the evaluation of the intended strike against the US and follow-up with real action. I am fed up with this present administration who looks the other way when it comes to protecting our people and our Nation and disgusted with the current do-nothing, politically correct Congress.

I am not advocating that terrorists assassinate anyone. I am just making the point that if the US was as overrun with terrorists as empire-building bureaucrats pretend, we would definitely be experiencing dramatic terrorist acts. The argument is not believable that a government that was incapable of preventing 9/11 is so all-knowing that it can prevent assassination of unprotected neocons and shopping malls from being bombed.

If Al Qaeda was anything like the organization that the US government claims, it would not be focused on trivial targets such as passenger airliners. The organization, if it exists, would be focused on its real enemies. Try to imagine the propaganda value of terrorists wiping out the neoconservatives in one fell swoop, followed by an announcement that every member of the federal government down to the lowest GS, every member of the House and Senate, and every governor was next in line to be bumped off.

  Someone’s watching too many TV shows on terror. There have been many plans thwarted, but many accomplished. You just aren’t keeping track. Why would there be use of something like cyanide, when anthrax would be worse? “I am not advocating that terrorists assassinate anyone. I am just making the point that if the US was as overrun with terrorists as empire-building bureaucrats pretend….”. Just posting this gives others ideas, and you are pretty specific who should have been/or should be killed. Not nice of you. You and Dr.Roberts should be thankful that individuals in many agencies, here and around the world, are willing to put their life on the line to get information to stop such attacks.

They heard about this plot and apparently have a reliable source and yet didn’t bother warning everyone. The government did tell a few select resorts and etc no doubt the ones that only rich people go to. I think if anyone was going to poison our food they’d pick Las Vegas since all they have out there is mostly buffets and there are always thousand of people there on vacation. From what I heard no one in Las Vegas was notified.

  Chet, I think we don’t have to worry too much about them coming in to the US. They are already here.
