Scott Brown takes on Paul Ryan, opposes GOP Medicare reform plan

Monday, May 23, 2011

scott brown

Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown, who for weeks has withheld his official position on House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s plan to overhaul Medicare, announced Monday he will vote to defeat the bill when it arrives on the Senate floor.

“While I applaud Ryan for getting the conversation started, I cannot support his specific plan — and therefore will vote ‘no’ on his budget,” Scott wrote in an op-ed in by Politico Monday.

“I do not think it requires us to change Medicare as we know it,” Brown wrote. “We can work inside of Medicare to make it more solvent.”

Brown’s comments arrive after it appeared last week that he planned to support it. On May 13, he said he would “vote for” the Republican budget, but clarified later that he had meant to say that he would vote “on” it, and had not yet made his decision.

Scott Brown will probably lose his job as he lied when he said he was a good GOP. he lied all the way in… i wont help him again except to get him out..

    • Mike

Scott Brown does one thing well he lies.

      • Colleen

Brown is a bad RINO. Even a good RINO would not do as he has done.
Oh, and about his lying: he is a closet lib…and all libs lie! It is in their DNA.

        • DEFEATCONSERVATISM

SCOTT BROWN IS A MASS. REPUBLICAN GOVENOR IN A STATE WHICH IS 89% DEMOCRAT. THE STATE SENATE IS 94% DEMOCRAT AND THE STATE LEGISLATION IS 87% DEMOCRAT.

WHAT DID YOU IMBECILES EXPECT, BARRY GOLDWATER!

          • Lee

If only we could have Barry Goldwater again!
At least there would be ONE honest politician in Washtington, and another many of you don’t know about—Carl Hayden–another Arizonan who didn’t lie, cheat, steal or sneak around!
If we had those two, we could find others and get our country back!

  • mad as hell

What a disappointment Scott Brown has become – nothing but a RINO. He needs to be a one-termer, like the Liar-in-Chief – wish
I lived in Mass. just so I could vote against
    him – LOSER

    • Jim

I do live in Mass and voted for him because he did things that looked like he was sincere. Unfortunately he isn’t doing what we want or hoped he would do. “Vote for” and “vote on’ are 2 different things. i can’t imagine him making a mistake like that without changing right then.
Fortunately what’s her name didn’t get in. if there is a better candidate than Brown I will vote for him/her. Dem or whatever.

      • CJ

Please contact his office, especially if you live in Mass. If he only hears from those who want him to oppose Ryan, than it’s our fault that he thinks he is representing Mass.

      • Lee

Look at how he treated his daughter! I had been backing him until he did that, and how all I want from him is to see his back as he leaves public service!
        SNEAKY!
        That should be his name!

    • Jo Ann

Scott brown, is just like obummer, my inlaws live in Mass. and they voted for him, brown also took in alot of money for his campaign, because people believed in him, he is and has been a dem all along. the Tea Party and Dick Morris are after him, not to be reelected again, brown is an obummer ass kisser, Mass. is so screwed up anyway with these radical politicians. good bye charlie scott brown, you are a radical dem, how much is obummer and the kennedy family paying you under the table, you are SOB probably smoking too much pot back in his screwed up state. he is a traitor, and traitors drown,

      • Lee

Wonder just how much cash he got from the Democrats when he ran? Thinking about it, it seems he took that election altogether too easily!

  • iitywybad

I am in complete agreement! I supported Scott Brown in his election, but my support will be withheld this time. I plan to e-mail him direct through his US Senate website and let him know that he will not get the national support he got before, so he’s on his own against the Socialist Democrat Party in Massachusetts. Let’s see how far he gets this time around

  • Ted

Brown is the classic RINO; what has surprised me is that has not yet announced that he is really a Massachusetts Democrat..from some one who stupidly manned telephones in his headquarters…..

    • Madman

That’s what you get when voting for a chameleon and now he’s paying us back big time. We have some Rinos running for president on the Republican ticket and I’m
sure Obama likes that because the more moderate they are the more moderate he looks.

      we

    • Apache6

That’s OK Ted,WE forgive ya!WE all fell for his lie !!!

  • ARMYOF69

Call him, and let him know what you think.

  • FreeGeezer

This guy, Scott Brown, has duped the American public into thinking that he’s a Republican. Well, he’s not, he’s a RINO through and through. I hope the people of Mass. wise up and dump him for a real Republican (Constitutional Conservative), if such a thing exists in that state.

    • Madasahatter

While I understand your disappointment with Brown you should understand that the people of Mass. will never wise up and dump him for a “real” Republican. Massachusetts is among the most bluest of blue states. The options here are a RINO or a very liberal Democrat. Which would you prefer sitting in the Senate?

      • Jim

He won because of the independents here. I hope they will realize their mistake and put in a better one next time. I am and will.

      • Arnold

I don’t know which is worse,at least with the Dem you know what you are up against, with the rino you can never depend on them, just when you need them they aren’t there for you.

      • Jerry

Madasahatter is right on the money; Massachusetts will NOT elect a Republican – NEVER! So let’s try to keep the seat in GOP hands for control and leadership sake. Even if Brown is a closet Democrat, to elect a Democrat we’ll get the same kind of vote but lose the number for purposes of control.

        It’s a loss with a win attached.

  • Mike Gabel

Scott Brown is a child dealing in an adult issue. Step aside and let Paul Ryan lead this country back to prosperity.

  • SaneRepublican

LOL!!!!! That’s right, unless they goose-step in line with you people, they must be a RINO, or worse, a “Democrat in Republican clothing.”

You people don’t want others to think for themselves….you want them to think like you. LOL!!!!

Gawd bless us Northern Republicans! We founded this party, we made it great with our progressive ideas of abolition and suffrage that moved the country forward (because that’s what progress does – it moves forward). It’s time we take our Grand Ole Party back from the sons & daughters of former Southern Democrats who switched over and hijacked it and want to take our country backwards with their so-called “conservatism”!

I TOO BELIEVED IN SCOTT BROWN – HE IS A FAKE AND POSSIBLY A PLANT BY DEMS. AN ACTOR LIKE OBAMABINLADIN.

      • PENELOPE8

THIS COMMENT IS INTENDED FOR THE INSANE REPUBLICAN/LIBERAL DEMOCRAT AND FOOL.

    • Hank

Sane, your historical facts are 100% correct, but those occurences are absolutely nothing to be proud of.

      • SaneRepublican

Those of us who believe in the founding progressive principles of the “party of Lincoln” are quite proud of the abolition of slavery and giving women the right to vote (despite how hard the conservatives of the day fought to maintain the status quo).

But yes, we are not proud in the least when racists like Strom Thurman, Jesse Helms, and the other Dixiecrats stormed in and hijacked our party. And now we have these Tea Baggers who want to drive one final nail into the former Grand Ole Party. I only wished these political terrorists would have the courage to form their own third party.

        • MelMc13

Lincoln didn’t give women the right to vote. That came much later. Lincoln continued the men-only voting.

          • SaneRepublican

            LOL!!!!

Yes, we know that Lincoln wasn’t around when women were granted the right to vote. Before you people hijacked the Republican Party, it used to be referred to as the “party of Lincoln” because he was the first Republican President.

But as many people ignorant of history have pointed out time and time again, it was the Republican Party that advocated to give women the right to vote, not the Democratic Party. But it was a very different time, back when the Republican Party was the progressive party, and the Democratic Party was the conservative party.

Anyway, it’s all been documented over the years and is available for your to research. Enjoy!

        • Steven

Go suck a railroad spike liberal.F—ing troll!Your are a maggot in the rice.

        • Hank

You can thank Nixon for that. Thurmond and Helms were not influenced by Nixon’s Southern Strategy, but many conservative Democrats were.

The Democratic Party was hijacked by the Progressives a LONG time before the Republican Party was hijacked by Reactionaries.

The fact is that both parties were Conservative by todays standards and they have both been hijacked by progressives. The Republican Party has slowly refined itself, with numerous setbacks. The Democratic Party has given up trying to evict the radicals and progressives.

The main difference between Cleveland and McKinley was tafts mustache. The things they disagreed on back in the day are no longer even issues for us in the here and now. One was friendlier to a gold standard, the other to a silver standard. Now we have a paper standard. One was lassaiz faire, and the other was a mild interventionist. Today, there is no conflict or economic crisis that the government won’t stick it’s finger into and make worse.

I would vote for any Democrat or Republican form before 1900 before I would vote for 99.9% 0f the guys currently in the running, or soon to be. It has nothing to do with Parties. Most of the founding fathers despised the Party system, but they knew it was inevitable and went along with it.

Both parties (along with the other parties, some of which are no longer in existence) have ‘hijacked’ each other countless number of times. Ever heard of platforms? We no longer have those, we just have ambiguous promises from both parties. The removal of the platform concept from the politiocal system was the beginning of the end.

          • Hank

            My bad. Political.

  • Fred Brown

I sent him money to help his 2010 election. I will send him the finger for his next campaign. He is a sell-out rino.

  • AmericansRon2U

In the future, Americans need to take note when candidates run for office as to WHO is behind them…who propped them up to run, etc. I was gung-ho on Brown until I discovered that Romney & McCain were the ones who propped him up in MA. That told me all I needed to know. He was a Tea Party infiltrator, compliments of the “establishment GOP”, otherwise known as NWO advocates…not much difference from the CommieCrats. Be vigilant and research these candidates, America! There is no room for a margin of error in 2012!

  • JDubya

What do you guys mean? He told you exactly what you could expect – what did you think he meant by his free-thinker comments. Most of us recognized it then. However, he is much, much much better than the communists he kept out. I applaud your efforts to replace him with a good conservative, however, but I’m not holding my breath. The east coast elites have a strong hold on the area.

  • am2sweet

In order to make a decision on anything I would want them to show us exactly what it is they planned. OR show us all the different plans and maybe let us decide. I don’t think they have to discontinue or cut back that much on Medicade. Anyone saying they have to is working against us. If they didn’t give it to all the illegals I bet they could afford the citizens living and working here.

We need to stand together with ONE VOICE and demand that ALL REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES bring to the forefront of their platform the constitutionality of idiOt's right, or lack thereof, to run for the office of president. It is THEIR JOB and THEIR RESPONSIBILITY and THEY HAVE FAILED US ALREADY on this incredibly important issue.

We all must put the pressure on EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

**If they will not, then we make it perfectly clear that we WILL NOT vote for them in any election…!!**

They need to receive hundreds of thousands of letters, phone calls, emails, etc. The RNC needs to receive the same. Short, concise statements that clearly and simply spell it out:

"WE WILL NOT VOTE FOR ———- IF THEY DO NOT BRING A LEGAL SUIT CONTESTING OBAMA'S CONSTITUTIONALITY TO HOLD THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT."

If any of the ..CANDIDATES.. files a law suit contesting idiOt's eligibility then the courts MUST hear the case and rule on it!

Hundreds of thousands of letters, emails, phone calls simply stating this to every one of the republican candidates AND the RNC.

WE MUST CHANGE THE WAY THEY ARE WORKING AND NOT LET THEM CHANGE US! We are right… they are wrong! Stand stong and united ~ DO NOT WAIVER…!!! NO REGRETS…!!!

TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO PASS THIS SIMPLE MESSAGE ON AND ON AND ON! WE will make the difference. This is so simple ~ do not let this stop here! Keep this going!

ONE VOICE ~ UNITED WE STAND!

  • http://outlookexpress Edwin

Evidentally he had not gotten his payoff as of May 13. The absurdity of all these professional politicians is that they can always condemn those that come up with ideas but don’t have the common sense to offer an alternative. Speaks volumes of the greedy thieving lawyers that have taken over our government. With them it’s all about how much more can we spend and collect in taxes.

Speaking from Massachusetts, while I understand your disappointment with Brown’s vote you should understand that the people of Mass. will NEVER wise up and dump him for a “real” Republican. Massachusetts is among the most bluest of blue states and they reelected every single liberal Democratic incumbant in the November elections including Barnie Frank! Wake up out there and understand the realities of politics in Massachusetts. The options here are a RINO or Barnie’s twin brother. Which would you prefer seeing in the Senate?

      LOL!!!!

  • bud

We really need to work with the DOI and declare open season on RINO’s. Since there are no RHINO’s in north America they will obviously agree to that. Then we can use the Commerce Clause to go after them legallly

  • Xman2

Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown is from Liberal Massachusetts, and was never a Conservative, but looked Conservative compared to the Kennedy dynasty and the rest of the politicians in that State. Much like Mitt Romney is no Conservative. Is it possible for a true Conservative to be elected in Massachusetts?
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s plan is a great start and probably will need some adjusting. And where is the Democrats 2011 Budget Plan (as the Dems are slamming the Republicans)?

    • The Enemy

Xman: As always, the libs don’t have a plan or a budget either. They pull their “rope-a-dope” crap until the GOP comes out with a plan. Then, with the help of the government media they destroy the plan. It’s their M.O.

  • ONTIME

I wonder what those who bis biz with Scott in the private sector thought of him and why so many voted to put him in office since he seems to be disappointing so many. His siddling up to Hairy Reed immeadiately after the election was a red flag and then some of his defense for not voting on conservative issues have indicated core problems.

If it turns out he sucker punched the voters so he could get a retirement, his future does not look good and poor service will net you some scrapes you won’t want to be in.

  • Sam

Scott Brown’s chance of reelection (as of now): less than 50%.

Obama’s chance of reelection (as of now): less than 50%.

  • URKiddinMee

Not to defend Scott Brown, but it appears that many of the recently elected “Tea Party Conservatives” must have imbibed the “Beltway kool-Aid” immediately upon their arrival. How quickly they have forgotten the mandate which sent them there. Many have already started gorging at the public trough to bring pork back to THEIR districts. We are so screwed.

    • SaneRepublican

      What eff’ing mandate?

Yes, the Republicans got historic gains in the House. But that’s not even half the story.

Only 20% of the electorate voted in last November’s elections. And not much more than half of them voted for Republicans. Let’s say that every single person who voted voted Republican. So you’re saying that choice of 20% of the people is a mandate?

Also, did you notice that none, as in zero, of the Liberal Democrats lost their seat in the House? It was only the Conservative Democrats from swing districts that lost. Most of them were only recently elected in 2006 & 2008. If you can’t beat a single Liberal Democrat, then you don’t have mandate.

And finally, while there was great success in smaller Congressional races, you people completely overestimated your power on the State level. Besides Wisconsin (who now has a huge case of buyer’s remorse), the “Tea Party” with their choices at the Republican Primaries, cost us a majority in the Senate. If you can’t win the Senate after doing so well in the House, then you don’t have a mandate.

I can hardly wait to see how you people plan to sabotage the upcoming Presidential election making it easier for Obama to get re-elected.

I wish you people “loved” the United States just a little less. This great country can’t handle much more of your “love.”

      • The Enemy

Sane: There is no remorse among us conservatives who elected the right people. There is, however, a lot of remorse among those who can’t abide conservatism; like union members, welfare slugs, government workers and others who would take our country right down into hell rather than give up any of their liberal-enabled bennies.

      • Tom Raines

Look ,replacing 55 or more seats in the house no matter how you try to say it aint,(yes Ill speak my southern english)aint is a mandate from the people,But I disagree with the way establishment republicans with a mandate not from the peoples vote, but a mandate from the rich corporate CEO,s ,wall street and influences from red china ,These in the GOP who is not for shrinking the size of government ,but the size of the working man and womens pay and benifits,to get out of having to provide them with health insurauce attack thier pensions while at the same time trying to destroy thier social saftey nets like medicaide and medicare,SSI and social security.
Thier mission in life is to make us all slaves with only them to turn to.

        • SaneRepublican

          Truer words are hardly spoken!

  • The Enemy

Scott Brown is a liberal with an “R” behind his name; in other words, a RINO. I suspected that from day one. It takes great courage to do what has to be done to save our economy. Brown doesn’t have that kind of courage. His assertion that “internal adjustments” can be made to Medicare to make it solvent is a non-committal, vague approach which is basically meaningless.

    • Cape Conservative

One thing we have to remember is that Scott Brown voted for Romneycare when he was in the state legislature. So…his stance is not all that surprising. Yes, it hurts that he continues to be the new John McCain maverick in the Senate. However, living here what else can we expect?

There are MANY strong conservatives in Massachusetts, however we learned in the last election that the MA Democrat Party made a conscious decision to follow Pelosi’s dictate – dig under the fence, climb over the fence, parachute in or smear good candidates with whatever you can find…after all, to a Democrat, the ends justify the means. And their ‘ends’ means they will do whatever it takes to win – legal or not!

There is one thing I canNOT stand however. And that is to see or hear his name associated with the two ladies from Maine. All I can think of is RINO RINO RINO and that is NOT what I voted for!!!! That is NOT what I made thousands of phone calls for!!!! That is NOT what I stood out in the rain holding his sign for!!!! That is NOT what we contributed our hard-earned dollars for!!!! We really thought we’d elected someone who stood for Republican principles such as LIMITED government…oh well!

Is there something wrong with being a Republican with strong limited government ideals?????

  • SunnyR

To think that I supported this RINO with my money. Fool me once…..This guy is TOAST. He doesn’t have half the IQ of Paul Ryan and NONE of the Honesty and Courage.

That’s from a speech in Nashville, Tennessee, (September 17, 2002), in which Dubbya confused a centuries-old proverb (“Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on me”) and tried to save himself with a lyric from a Who song. LOL!!!!

Gawd love Dubbya!!!! I’m thrilled you’re not longer President, but I miss how much you made me laugh.

I hope you all one day find yourself pennieless and down ,you have no where to turn and because of your own greedy actions have sealed your own fate.
The republican for wich I probably helped put in office has three times had within thier hands as a mandate from the people had a chance to turn this nation around and put people back to work and limit government .
But each time has used thier political capital to go after and start the process to progressively destroy medicaide, medicare, social security and disability.
Each time all they do is unleash the large greedy corporations on the little guy and bring down the stancard of living on the blue collar working man and womans families, benifits and health care.

Democrats can’t help you when you get nothing from medicare, social security, etc…. If it doesn’t get fixed, there will be nothing. Don’t you understand that? A little less is better than nothing at all. Do you have family who you care about to keep it going? Or do you just worry about yourself and screw the future generations who have been paying in for years?

I’m disappointed in Brown…this is not the first conservative issue he has not supported. Paul Ryan’s budget deal is a proposal and I don’t see why it can’t be used as a basis and changed or added/deleted as the republicans work on it. Why is it an up or down vote before it is even considered or discussed? Maybe I’m naive, but they have to start somewhere, and we sure can’t use obama’s “budget” or a democratic one, if they ever produce one. I’ve tried to listen to Brown’s reasons for voting like he does, when they were available to read about, but I see him now as a Snowe/Collins. We watched his campaign and he appeared to be a common sense conservative. I know he said he wasn’t automatically a “yes” vote; however, he has slipped much farther than I ever thought he would. He runs again in 2012 and I suppose the blue people in Mass will vote him back in since he votes mostly with dems. One good thing..he did vote to speed up offshore drilling permits, Snowe voted against it with the dems and she runs in 2012 as well.

The rest of the country need to understand [you do not have to agree it] the political reality of the GOP in New England. With the exception of Maine, which has a long history of supporting moderate Republicans [Margret Chase Smith, Olympia Snow and Susan Collins], Massachusetts has had a half dozen Republican Senators in the past century. There were a few minor Republicans, who held office, but the power brokers of the GOP were Henry Cabot Lodge 1893-1924, Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. 1937-1944, 1947-1953, Leveret Saltonstall 1945-1967, and Edward Brooke 1967-1979 and finally after a 20 year absence, we have Sen. Scott Brown. You will never find a Barry Goldwater Republican who will get elected in Massachusetts. The successful Republican must walk a moderate line in order to sway over the majority Independents and Blue Dog Democrats in order to win. The successful Republican has to be in the mold of the likes of Nelson Rockefeller in order to win in this state. You do not have to like it, but if you want a Republican sitting in the Senate from Massachusetts, that is what you are going to get.
Learn to live with it and be happy that we have a Republican Senator. If could have been the Democrat MA Attorney General Martha Coakly, and she is so deep into bed with the far left, you would not want her in Washington.
Quite you’re complaining and get behind Scott Brown, or you will find a Democrat taking that seat back. That is the reality of Massachusetts

Thanks again Massachusetts! You gave us that murderer Ted Kennedy, that imbecilic liar John Kerry and the pervert Barney Frank. Now it’s Scott Brown. You folks have got to stop drinking sea water, it impairs your judgement.
