Why Gingrich won and Romney lost

gingrich-romney-SOUTH-CAROLINA-primary

Gingrich’s defeat of Romney in South Carolina Saturday was absolutely dominating.  Just a week ago, Romney had a solid lead over Gingrich in the polls.  On Saturday night, he lost to Gingrich by 12 points — a huge and disastrous swing. Gingrich won 44 of South Carolina’s 46 counties.

How did it happen?  For one thing, all the talk about Romney having a hugely superior ground organization turned out not to be true.  “They did not do the retail politics that a Santorum and a Gingrich have done over time,” said Kevin Thomas, chairman of the Fairfield County Republican Party.  (Thomas was neutral in the race.)  “I think Newt’s people, they had more on-the-ground staff, and they worked.”  There were a lot of them, too; after Gingrich’s strong showing in the debates, said Susan Meyers, Gingrich’s media coordinator for the Southeast, “We have so many volunteers, our phones are melting right now.”

Gingrich’s campaign was also faster and more nimble than the Romney battleship. “There is a very strong contrast between the two campaign organizations,” said Gingrich adviser (and former George W. Bush administration official) Kevin Kellems.  “In military terms, it’s speed versus mass.  Newt Gingrich’s operation, and Newt Gingrich as a man, has a great deal of speed — intellectual speed, decisiveness.  The Romney campaign is much more about money and size, having hired half of Washington D.C.  And sometimes, speed beats mass.”

It certainly did this time.  In the next few days, there will be plenty of analysis attributing Gingrich’s victory to other factors: his commanding performances in debate, his next-door advantage in South Carolina, and Romney’s now-traditional difficulties in the state.  But after all the talk of ground game and debate war, there’s a simpler reason Gingrich won: On the stump, in town hall after town hall, across South Carolina, Gingrich has been a markedly better campaigner than Romney.

Simple. Gingrich has everything Romney doesn’t and never will have. Go Gingrich

    • Jackie

It seems to me that the lamestream media just got a good old southern style smack-down from the SC voters. I love it!

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Jackie!!!!wasn’t that a great one!!! Give a hoot- Vote for Newt!!! LOL

    • Maynard

I heard someone say….”I couldn’t vote for Newt, he gets mad and has a temper..NO KIDDING!!Don’t you think he has a right? The mainstream media can’t seem to report the truth as it applies to the Republicans and “he gets mad”?? To me, a temper and being able to get mad and say what you mean is an asset. Obummer could not hold a light to Newt in a debate. I viewed the clip when Paul Ryan gave Obummer a lesson in finance. He looked like he had no idea what Ryan was talking about.

    • Robert Young

Sorry Maynard, but Newt was removed as Speaker of the House for a string of ethics violations when he was in Congress last time. Now he wants to be President? I don’t believe this is the type man we need as President of the United States. He also carries a lot of other baggage with him as well. Pelosi has stated that she will make all the ethic violations public if Newt gets the Nomination. I would not vote for Newt and feel if he gets the Nomination we will see another 4 years of the Obomination. Ron Paul is the only true Constitutional Conservative still running. If he does not get elected President, ALONG with a House and Senate controlled by Constitutional Conservatives, then the America we grew up in will be no more. However, Ron Paul and the Constitutional Conservative controlled House and Senate, working together, can get Ron Paul’s plan to restore America working and get America back to a Constitutional Government.

    • just sayin

If Ron Paul is honest, then he is incompetent as a manager in my opinion. Here is the fact. Please don’t blather on about NWO, Neo Cons and the like. Just make your determination which one he is and then temper your future comments using common sense rather than Mantra! His views that were written about in HIS newsletters for years with HIS name on them are scary. He claims that he did not know what they were writing for years. To me, that sounds like irresponsible management AT MINIMUM. How can someone who cannot even supervise his OWN newsletters manage international affairs and the US government. So IF he is honest, he is irresponsible and incompetent AT THE LEAST. My belief is that he DID know what was in his newsletters for YEARS and did supervise what went in there. THAT would make him patently dishonest by claiming that he did not know. What would the average person think if they were not a PaulBot or a cult member? My guess would be the latter but the former is possible. Which do you believe, since you claim he is the ONLY honest one? Is he irresponsible and incompetent or dishonest?

    • Dntmkmecmoverther

@robertyoung: you evidently don’t know the details of this so called ‘ethics’ violation. Look into it and you will see it was a tactic of the left who saw Newt gaining incredible kinetic energy in DC. The Dems didn’t know how to stop him in the traditional means, so they resorted to feigned ethics charges. In order to make it ‘go away’ Gingrich agreed to pay $300k which was loaned to him by many in the congress.

Sarah Palin dealt with the same despicable tactics as governor of Alaska after she was the VP nominee. Dems just don’t know how to behave. For them, if it’s legal it’s right. If they could, they would still utilize slavery.

    • 2WarAbnVet

Notice that the folks who are shocked about Newt’s personal life, are the same people who defended that slime ball Clinton for far worse indiscretions.

    • Texan living overseas (until Texas secedes)

Why is the GOP turning to a self-declared progressive? Newt Gingrich called himself a progressive Republican numerous times!

His favorite presidents are Teddy Roosevelt (who FOUNDED the progressive party) and FDR, a democratic progressive. That tells you A LOT about his character. He always angrily defends FDR whenever anyone challenges FDR’s socialist work programs.

Newt always talks about the government programs he loves (like NASA, etc.). This is NOT the type of person to elect when we need to CUT PROGRAMS. He wants to EXPAND programs.

I know Ron Paul has been attacked on foreign policy, but if you take a moment to think about it, EVERYONE HERE AGREES WITH HIS FOREIGN POLICY.

Why? Because if you think Islam is a threat, you CANNOT support the wars. This is because they are not “wars” at all! They are MUSLIM ARMY TRAINING programs!

Newt, Santorum, and Romney favor this nation-building madness where we give muslims tanks and guns and train them to use them!

Does ANYONE really believe the 650,000 shiite iraqi soldiers we trained won’t turn on us if we attack shiite Iran?! That they won’t attack Israel in the coming Arab vs Israeli war?!

ALL the other candidates are committing TREASON against the USA and Israel by training our FUTURE ENEMIES!

Only Ron Paul favors declaring war, BLOWING THEM UP, then LEAVING after the war is over and they are turned to glass. This is what EVERY conservative wanted after 9/11. NOT nation-building!

    • ARREST ZERO

After 8 freekin years of Bush not standing up to the media we have this libtard media to deal with. I think some of their anchors need arrested for treason to America. or boat anchor hosting

    • Calvin

Maynard, you are absolutely correct. The rest of us are extremely mad and if we don’t have a tempter tantrum this spring and get a Newt who will call obama a “liar and fraud” on public tv as well as cram it back down the throats of the arrogant media, then we will end up with another McCain run that will end in disaster. It is time to “cowboy up” as the media used to malign Bush with. The cowboys get it done, take no crap and kick butt when you need to and I think this country is at the point where we need a real cowboy in the white house. Reagan was accused of the same adolescent tags and that history is one that even they can no longer deny.

    • Norm

      Robert Young,
In case you hadn’t noticed, Jesus Christ isn’t running.

The 72 ethics charges leveled on Newt by Michigan Moron David Bonior were all dismissed save one process failing, involving a PAC. Bonior himself soon left Congress under suspicion of funny business with union lobbyists.

My only problem with Newt and the same with Sarah Palin is that neither stood and fought when they were attacked by Democrats and the media.

IMHO, that Newt fired back at the media, and Romney didn’t made the difference in S.C. Conservatives are tired of their people playing meek defense, when they need to go on offense, and strike at the heart of the socialist beast. Romney is a nice guy, but I don’t think there is any fight in him. I hope Newt has enough to last the campaign and for eight tough years.

    • Maynard

I could not reply directly to “Robert Young” so I had to put it here….sorry Ann. I will not disrespect Dr Paul but I think we need someone NOW that will stand up to our international enemies, NOT say they can have nukes and it does not matter. His foreign polices suck and we will lose any discussions with them when he is the one at the head of the table. On the other hand, as I said many times, I would vote for an occupant of the National Zoo against Obummer.

    • http://patriotupdate littlepat

Robert Young: you don’t know what you’re talking about. All charges against Newt were dropped except one which was an error his attorney made. You should check your facts before you shoot off your mouth!

No true patriot can support Ron Paul. That one critical element of the Constitution that he eschews is the government’s responsibility for national defense. He would gut the military, and make America one of the weakest nations on earth. He would allow our enemies free rein to run roughshod about the world. While Obama seeks to destroy our children’s future through active measures Paul would accomplish the same outcome through inaction.

As a native & life long South Carolinian, I can only speak for myself – that while Romney seems like a really good & decent man, it appears to me that the establishment Repubs have ordained that he should be the next GOP nominee. This is OUR country and this should be OUR choice and OUR nominee. And just maybe WE don’t all think Romney should be OUR nominee. East coast, west coast, & the DC Beltway aren’t the only people in the USA. WE all count – WE all matter – WE all have a choice. They don’t call us Rebels for nothing!! “We wanted to wait til the kids were dead.”

      1. Early voting in S.C. was a landslide for Mitt. before the debate??
      2. after his spanking of the media, S.C. FLIP-FLOPPED. HOW CAN WE HAVE A COUNTRY OF
FLIP-FLOPPERS WHO CANNOT SEE BEYOND A DOG FIGHT? REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED TO MICHAEL VICK FOR AGGRAVATING A FIGHT AND CRUELTY, HE WENT TO PRISON. THE MEDIA DESERVED THE SPANKING, BUT MITT DID NOT DESERVE TO BE DESERTED BY S.C. WHAT FICKLE PEOPLE. I AM GLAD DR. PAUL IS STILL SPEAKING OUT, I JUST HOPE HE DOES ‘NOT’ FORM A THIRD PARTY BECAUSE THAT WILL GIVE THE ELECTION TO OBAMA.
THE MEDIA IS NOW TRYING TO BLAST THE BEST CHANCE WE HAD OF GETTING OUR COUNTRY’S PROBLEM SOLVED. NEWT MAY SELF DESTRUCT JUST LIKE CLINTON DID. HE FOLLOWS CLINTON’S MORALS AND ‘I’M SO SORRY AND I AM FORGIVEN AND WE ALL ARE BUT CONSEQUENCES STILL EXIST.

    • Jstarusa

I would hope that Dr Paul has enough sense to let the people decide who they want and not use bullying or scare tactics to be nominated. We already have that happening in the White House now. Whoever wins the nomination will be backed by 100% of the people, or I surely hope they will..

    • June9245

nvrpc: In Romney’s mind, and the mind of the media, “anger”, as displayed by Gingrich, is a negative thing. To us patriotic Americans, it is a GREAT thing! It’s about darn time some of our leaders got ANGRY at what king O. and the leftist media are doing.

    • S Crook

      I completely agree.
Newt has displayed a backbone – real or not, It has been refreshing and energizing the people. The people are tired of being bullied by the Dems and the Media.

    • C.Davis

Since nobody on this board can seem to see through the whole ex wife scenario, let me map it out for you and then go back and watch the debate on you tube and pay close attention to the facial expressions of both participants and tell me if you agree with me.

My contention is that Mr. Gingrich, posessing a certain feral intelligence, arrives at the conclusion that something must be done to deflect the well deserved criticism of his morality which he is expecting.

So, he calls his buddy Karl Rove, and they cook this whole scheme up where they pay his ex wife to come forward for an interview true or false, irrelevant. She knows her daughters’ stock will rise if their father is Prez, even though she may hate his guts, she does it for her daughters’ good, and maybe some cash, remember, money is no object for these people, they own the printing presses.

Rove gets out his checkbook and makes all the arrangements with his buddies over at ABC. Then they set up the arrangements for the interviews with the daughters, same agenda, content irrelevant, Rove with the checkbook. Then for the last details they stage manage so that Gingrich is placed on the dais for maximum exposure, since he is to be the star of the debate, And of course they feed Newt’s loaded question to John King along with instructions to open with the plum so the debate could start off on the right foot. And it’s a HOME RUN! Rove reaches for the checkbook one more time, but doesn’t fill in the amount until he sees how well King is able to sideline Dr. Paul, I’m assuming that it got pretty expensive after awhile, but what is money for, after all.

So that’s it, Pure political theater, professionally done, by polished actors. Completely deniable, sure fire psy-op.

Judo master flips his would-be attacker to provide the inference that Mr.King is the bad man for bringing it up and anyone who might make the mistake of mentioning Mr Gingrich’s pecadilloes in the future wil earn the epithet of anti-newtite.

Problem solved. Public fooled again into voting against their own interests. All involved fill out deposit slips.

Now go and re-watch the debate with all this in mind. If it doesn’t make you mad, I can’t help you.

    • JOCASSEEJO

To Ron Paul – uh I mean CDavis: Karl Rove is a Washington insider & is in the tank for Romney. Listen to him talk, like all the other insiders he does not like Newt.
At the last minute, my son said he thought he was going to vote for Ron Paul. I tried to explain some of his foreign polices. But then my son is only 18.

    • Oregon Bill

I’m soooooo tired of all the spin dedicated to Ron paul supporters being ignored by the media. Nobody cares about him because his foreign policy stance is left of Obama, everything is not aimed at ignoring him but if it works, GOOD>

    • Jstarusa

Have to give him credit, he survived the onslaught of negative ads from both sides.

    • http://patriotupdate littlepat

3 minutes is all I can take of Romney’s speeches without falling asleep. But I could listen to Newt for hours and never be bored. He is interesting, he knows his subject and I thoroughly enjoy him.

    • patxtra

Have to admit that listening to Romney or Santorum cause me to nod off. All they talk about is what needs to be done and the problems we are facing which we all know about. BUT they don’t say what their plan is to deal with it. After listening to newt, I hover on every word because he clearly states his case and when he finishes I can recite the steps he is going to take to solve the many problems we have. BECAUSE he is brief, succinct and gets to the point with definite action items. Santorum while a great guy, takes 10 to 15 minutes to answer a ?, and one becomes hypnotized by the continual repetition of a statement. Enough already I heard what you said the first time, no need to repeat and repeat etc.

    • Retired USAF MSgt

      I’ve never trusted Romney.

Santorum is a lawyer through and through. He lays out his position as though he were writing a position paper. He says all the correct things but is not inspiring. This will not win him the nomination.

Gingrich is a fighter with the nack of cuting to the quick. He says what we all feel and sometimes what we hold back from saying. He is capturing the conservative mindset. Several months ago I did not think he would be able to energize conservative voters but I am proven wrong.

Ron Paul will not be the nominee.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Ret Msgt…. … Yahoo!!!!! Thank you so much!!! Lets hope this momentum keeps building!!!

    • c d mansley

They won’t say it to the pollsters but when the southern evangelicals go into the voting booth they do not trust a mormon. We need to realize that Mormons believe they will become like God, they have secret ceremonies, they do not believe in the Trinity. That should not disbar a person from becoming president but it does leave lots of doubts. Romney and other Mormons should simply admit that they have a significantly different religion than traditional Christianity just as Unitarians are not Christian etc. By being up front about what they believe they will remove a lot of doubt and perhaps gain more respect than attempting to say they are “Christians” when if fact, they are not.

    • Pappy

Who are you to call Mormans NON-Christians? Did someone magically give you the power to define what is true Christianity? If this is the case then please state your line of authority back to the only One who can truly make that claim, Jesus Christ Himself. The TRUE name of the Mormon Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You non-Mormons gave the nic-name of Mormons to the members due to the existance of the Book of Mormon which is another testiment Of Christ which goes hand in hand with the Bible. As far as believing in the Trinity, the members of the LDS religion believe in three separate beings, God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Ghost. Instead of stating lies and misinformation why don’t you log on to LDS.org for answers concerning what the LDS church believes and teaches. As for Mit Romney, if he follows the teachings of the church, which I am sure he does, I would bet that he pays more in charitable donations to the church percentage wise, than all donations payed by other canidates pay to their charitable organizations. By the way, paying a tenth of your increase back to the Lord is not a commandment made up by the LDS church it is one contained in the Bible and therefor should be followed by all who claim to be Christians. The Book of Mormon is not our bible it is a record of what happened to the people who lived here on the American Continent, their religious beliefs, wars, failures, successes and families. This book also shows that God loves all his children not just those who lived on the old continent. Think about it.

    • am2sweet

Gingrich is an admitted globalist meaning he wants one world government among other things. I have researched him and don’t like what I found. Some of his ideas are too stupid to mention. Such as this:
Build “a large array of mirrors [that] could affect the earth’s climate,” to extend farmers’ growing season. He outlined this proposal in his book “A Contract with the Earth.”
There is more but this is just one example. Do we really need someone like that??

Romney has been a big eye opener for this country. He proudly proclaims “vulture capitalism” and the “vulture management” that goes with it.
The liberal media want him to win, because the others won’t be so easy for Obama to play the class warfare game with.
The conservative media wants Romney in because just about everyone you see on the major media news shows are part of the top 3% that make all the money in America. They want one of their own in and if the Democrats win, they still get to feel good about themselves. They can’t lose.
The establishment wants Romney to win because the old boy machine wants to keep political capitalism going strong.
The rest of America that has had to live through these lousy economic times, knows that “vulture anything” is the reason this country is where it is.
Greed, for the lack of a better word, greed DOES NOT work.

      EVP,
I have plenty of issues with how a lot of leveraged buyout (LBO) deals are done and how they end up. But I’m not totally against the business model. However, I am against the outright lie that Romney created net 100,000 jobs while he was at Bain Capital.

First of all, he’s a banker. So I take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Second, the LBO business doesn’t give a hoot about job creation. It’s all about profit creation – at any cost. Romney has not one iota of proof that he created any jobs, gross or net.

He’s not part of the solution; he’s part of the problem, masking as do-gooder capitalist making jobs and making America a leader again.

  • http://verizon Ann Rand

Someday the Republican Elite Establishment might abandon the “It’s his turn” system of nominating candidates:

McCain lost to Bush in 2000; McCain’s turn in ’08. Romney lost to McCain in ’08; Mitt’s turn in ’12.

In no case may we have a true Conservative candidate, regardless of who is running. And unfortunately, these elites hold the power.

The liberal/socialist media and the New York-Washington corridor Republican establishment are working assiduously to select Romney as the Republican candidate. Romney is basically “McCain 2012″, a weak uninspiring nominee who would irk many conservatives. It remains to be seen whether they would hold their collective noses and vote for him out of fear of the damage the Dems have done to the nation, or whether they’d see Romney as “Obama-lite”, and stay home in disgust.

    • Jay

I agree that the media and Obama wold rather have “beatable” Romney than Newt. And while I’m at it, there are some RINO’s that are scared of Newt. I really beleive he can and will clean house for our country including all the Czars.

Example: Why all of a sudden has Obie & the Dems started playing the class warfare card so heavily? Do you think that it’s pre decided or at least pre strategized that Romney will be the GOP nominee? All they have to do is drop multi millionaire Romney into the 1% class warfare political game they’re playing! Botta Bing! Think about it. Did you see “Mush Mouth” Debbiie Wasserman Schult on FOX the other day. Whenever she was asked a question she always took the conversation back to Romney.

Obama and Company do not want to be Newtered you think?

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

B.G. Go for it..We can say the Inaugural Ball is coming off!!! LOL

  • The Enemy

So, the shoo-in, darling, heir-apparent candidate of the GOP “good-ol’-boy establishment is not necessarily the darling of the PEOPLE! The PEOPLE still have a say and they spoke loudly in S. Carolina. Some leftist and pundits besmirch Gingrich for being “angry”. GREAT! It’s about time some of our leaders got ANGRY at what the king O. administration, supported by the leftist media, is doing to America! In certain applications, anger is appropriate! Gingrich is, by-far, more assertive and straight-forward firm on the issues than Romney is.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Enemy…. I agree with you…It’s about time we all get angry and don’t take it anymore… The media seems to think they can shove whoever they want us to have on us and we will take it..Sure, Newt has some warts, but who doesn’t? I believe that he has enough gumption to fight for our country and we need some one who will do that. Romney is a good man but I am afraid that he is not strong enough to overcome the terrible odds that are against us… Ann

    • Capitalust

And wouldn’t it be a pleasant change to have a truly brilliant man at the helm, rather than an empty void that can read some else’s words from a teleprompter, and be praised for it by the MSM. Newt winning would be the ultimate refutaion of the MSM. High time, too.

    • Oregon Bill

Ann, I certainly hope you have someone that treasures you, you deserve it, you are spot on.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Oregon Bill….. My three Scotties are crazy about me. Especially at dinner time!!!LOL

  • uwho

Lets not be fooled. This whole thing is nothing but a show. The powers that be have already decided which one is their next puppet. Right now they are allowing a push shove sceen to make it appear as though we still have a voice, but it’s all an illusion. Can you see that they have ditched odumba? They are finished with him. Now all of a sudden the media and his own are turning on him.

    • http://Yahoo EVP

Where and when have the mainstream media turned on Obama? They continue to act as though he is walking on water.

    • Jay

The media is the enemy of our country.

  • Captain PJ

There is no doubt that the South Carolina results were very exciting for those of us still hoping that a serious conservative alternative will emerge in this campaign. I also think it’s important to note, however, that the past three primary elections have all been “open” primaries where Indpeendents and Dmocrats could cast their vote. This has benefited candidates like Paul, especially.

Going forward, it’ll be Republican voters voting for their favorite candidate. This is why I believe that Paul is done. Florida is a big state (politically speaking) and the winner of Florida will definitely have the momentum going forward. If Gingrich wins Flordia, Romney is in big trouble–and the same could be said for Gingrich if he loses Flordia. 31 January 2012, might be the most important primary.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Capt…. I am a Floridian… We have had early voting going on for a week already .More people voted last week(here) than the whole state of N.H. After Newt had words with John king(cnn) Thurs. night, Lots of people were voting for Newt on Fri…Let’s pray that the momentum keeps building.

    • Barb

It really bothered me when I found FL had early voting. But glad to know that the little episode on Sat night in SC was seen by Floridians and they are voting Gingrich! He is the best in the lot.

    • http://Yahoo EVP

Ann, I’m a Floridian also hoping Gingrich wins the nomination. Let me be clear: I did not vote for Obama. Because of Obama, not only did I change political party from Democratic to Republican, I have been pulling for Gingrich from the beginning. The very person and personality the USA needs right now is Gingrich. I think Romney has done more harm to himself lately and his negative campaign really allowed Gingrich to rise up and go right by him. I usually don’t talk politics with friends/acquaintances/strangers but after the terrible consequence of Obamma’s first term, I am absolutely a song bird for Newt. I think Florida will want someone electable (Newt) and former governor Jeb Bush has had the good sense not to endorse anyone. That said, it looks like he sees Romney cannot win and has the good sense to keep quiet. I haven’t hear our present govenor say anything thankfully quiet also. Go Newt!

    • Al

Is your name a PLAY on AYN RAND!

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

      Al….. YES!!!

    • Nonne

Thanks for the info, Ann. I, too, am a Florida voter, and I want to say that I voted in the Florida primary (by absentee ballot) on DECEMBER 28, 2011! Florida is doing a GREAT job of making SURE absentee ballots get back to them in sufficient time to be counted!

    • Robert Young

Captain PJ, this is why we need a National Primary election day where all States vote on the same day all across the Nation.

    • Maynard

That’s not such a bad idea. The BLACK PANTHERS can’t cover every state all at once.

    • http://ThePatriotUpdate Michael G.

They better not be at any polling place when the election rolls around.

    • kim

Acorn is all over every town in all states . Acorn still alive, it changed name only. Acorn, Unions, black panther, ACLU and … leftis are Obama’s army. They will make dead folks & Micky Mouse can vote & vote many times. Lame stream media, democraps & Obama are professional liars, bias, propaganda want Romney also RINO, PaulBot, Santorum, Romney. They attacked Newt from all directions.
I believe Newt will win in the final because WE THE PEOPLE will vote for him. We have to stand up to fight for our freedom. NO MORE Obama.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Kim …. People should get themselves a stun gun.. They make them that look like cell phones. You can carry it anywhere and no body will know the difference… they can be purchased on the internet or also flea markets. Wouldn’t you like to light up a black panther…Wonder if his eyes would turn green? LOL

    • Jay

I agree. Wouldn’t that be refeshing?

    • cleareyes

Watch the DamRats Pack the polls voting in the Republican primary.
      Like they did in 08!

    • JOCASSEEJO

South Carolina is a “closed” primary state.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Jo….. Are you sure? I heard that it isn’t.. I am sure that Fla. is. Only Repubs can vote in the primary. That should slow the paulbots down some.

  • Linda Rivera

Mr. Gingrich must be asked if he will kill the indefinite detention provision of the NDAA. Where American citizens will be held indefinitely without charge and without legal representation. The end of America as we know it!
Our human rights and freedom are at stake!

    • JustMe

I’m not sure if he would since he supports the unconstitutional patriot act. In a debate, he said that tools like the patriot act are necessary. So sad.

    • Al

NEWT says KILL EM! KILL EM!

I WILL KILL AMERICAN CITIZENS WITHOUT A TRIAL!

This “MAN” is a FREAKIN NUTCASE!

    • Melba

Newt addressed this during his victory speech after the election returns were in. He is against it. He also said that he would fire all the czars on his first day in office, if elected. He condemned the oil pipeline from Canada because it would benefit only Canada and China. The US would get no benefit from it.

You apparently did not listen to his speech. He made some excellent points and I don’t think he was just whistling Dixie. He truly meant what he said and I think it reverberated with the entire conservative electorate.

Newt’s the man to get the job done!!!

    • Johnnygard

Newt is FOR the pipeline going to Texas and AGAINST the pipeline going to the Canadian coast and the oil going to China.

    • Melba

Sorry I didn’t make myself clear on the pipeline. I thought since I indicated it would benefit only Canada and China, Newt’s position was to run it to Texas.

    • Robert Young

Linda, I believe that he has already stated that he supports both the Patriot Act and the NDAA. That is a shame since both are Unconstitutional and take away Constitutional Rights of American Citizens.

    • C.Davis

Not to mention the fact that he has more than adequately proved that he is comfortable with saying what he thinks his audience wants to hear to get himself elected, then consciencelessly implementing the agenda of the moneyed elite.
But you can’t get some people to see these kinds of thing, they love it when their pimp slaps them around.

    • Al

That DA MN CONSTITUTION THING JUST KEEPS GETTING IN HIS WAY!

He is a very DANGEROUS NEO-CON RINO WAR MONGER!

  • Janice Fortin

Doubtful that anyone doing their homework and a teeny research in Newt’s background would vote for Newt. Everyone knows, a Newt win is an AMERICAN LOSS.

    • S Crook

Let’s face it, Newt or Romney, are not good choices. Both are moderates/Rhinos. Ron Paul is too old and radical. Poor Santorum can’t get anyone to pay attention and is not very articulate.

    • Al

Yeah, that DA MN CONSTITUTION is ONE RADICAL DOCUMENT!

    • Nonne

Al, When you say “he” and never say exactly who “he” is it makes your blog VERY confusing. Who is this anti-constitutional “he” you are complaining about?

    • Melba

Does this mean you intend to vote for Obummer? Shame on you if you are a true conservative. We must join together to vote for whomever the nominee is in order to put a stop to this administration turning America into a third world country.

Any of these candidates would be an improvement over the big “O” and his cronies, but my pick is Newt.

    • June9245

      So says the Obummer booster!

    • Maynard

……And what are we in the middle of now? Not the country I grew up in and serviced for. Obummer could be replaced by a high school history student and the country would be better off.

    • http://patriotupdate JIMMY CROWW

not with they are teaching in our schools today!!

    • Johnnygard

Janice, I’ve seen Newts “background”, now you need to check his ACTUAL RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN CONGRESS. I’m getting sick and tired of all these claims about how bad Newt is/will be. He is the only candidate with a record of major accomplishments on the National scene.

  • Captain Shays

It’s clear why Gingrich won SC. The people are stupid enough to get their information from TV and radio and news papers instead of doing the research themselves to find out what a horrible man this Gingrich is. Yeah if you want global government, constant wars, more and more debt with less and less freedom then by all means. Go vote for Gingrich, Romney, Santorum or Obama

    • Jerry F.

And where are you getting this great knowledge of yours, facebook, google, leftwing blogs. We got eyes and ears we can make a good choice on our own.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Jerry F… He gets it from the same place the rest of the paulbots get their vast knowledge…. They go to BRAINWASHING school.

    • Jerry F.

And where are you getting this great knowledge of yours, facebook, google, leftwing blogs. We got eyes and ears we can make a good choice on our own.

    • June9245

      What else does MSNBC say?

  • Rex Fey

Romney acts like he knows what’s best for us and will make the decisions, big brother. At first that doesn’t come through, the more he talks the more it is clear he thinks it’s his place as President to choose for us, just like Obama. Plus his father was not a U S citizen, Mitt Romney is not Natural born as required by the constitution.

    • June9245

Mitt’s father was governor of Michigan for 8 years did not know we had an alien in the office.

    • Gary L Thompson

Well I did, I read about it being raised when Romney announced his run for the presidency (if you want more details, you might try your local interlibrary loan–or used books shop if you’re lucky–for a copy of Gerald I Plas’ 1967 book, “The Romney Riddle”. I’m not really judging one way or the other on whether Romney was actually born in Mexico, but the way the issue was arrogantly brushed aside instead of truly dealt with certainly had some echoes of the full-blown constitutional crisis we face with Obama today. If the Tea Party does nothing else, it should set as top priority getting stiff candidate vetting procedures through the legislature or on the ballot of every state, because it is evident too many enemies of the principles of the Declaration and Constitution have infiltrated the centers of power and influence in our society to assume candidates and politicians will necessarily voluntarily comply with constitutional requirements for office.

Incidently, Michigan serves as the classic poster child for the long-term consequences of installing a Progressive political establishment, Governors Williams and Romney setting the pattern for FDR-type liberals/RINO administrations to follow. In the end, it resulted in the destruction of the industrial might that was once the envy of the world in the 20th Century, and while Gov. Snyder may improve conditions over the short term just as his previous RINO predecessors may have, he won’t affect downward spiral over the long run any more than they did. Only the restoration of the state’s 19th Century social and enconomic principles which gave birth to Michigan’s prosperity in the first place can do that–just as only a full-scale restoration of our Founders’ principles will rescue this nation from the demise that the Progressives have been driving this nation toward for the past century.

    • Jay

George Romney ws a US citizen, born in the Mormon colonies in Mexico. Mit was born in Detroit! I am not a Romney supporter but he was no doubt born in the US of US parents!

    • Johnnygard

I’m not a fan of Romney, but he IS eligible to be president. Michigan has a law that says the Governor has to be a citizen and they verified his eligibility before he took office. Mitt was born in the United States, “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof”, which makes him eligible.

    • Al

Gee, you idiots still don’t understand the difference between “NATURAL BORN CITIZEN, and CITIZEN?

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Al…. No, we didn’t get to go to brainwashing school like you… Maybe when you people help obama get reelected, we can ALL go to the gulags or maybe Jonestown.

Rex…. Are you ignorant or what???

  • Clarence

Newt & Mitt can now spend their time attacking each other while Ron Paul keeps preaching the message and winning converts.

    • Jay

Illiterate people voting in the last election got us Obama, the Affirmative Action Pres, lets hope we dont make the same mistake with Ron Paul. the man is no doubt a good person but his international positions are some of the most naive and stupid ones I have ever heard! With him in office in WW1 or WW2 we would be speaking German or Japanese now!

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

Clarence…. Yeah, I just loved the way he cleaned up in S.C.

  • http://Facebook Delia Winn

Be careful of what you wish for.. We don’t want Obama but Newt? One time shame on you but twice shame on me. He is already accepting millions from one man, for free?.. Think not .. Just like Hussein he has to pay back when he gets to the white house.. Is that what we want? Better with Romney! Since when is a sin to make money.

    • http://Yahoo EVP

Certainly not better off with Romney. Clear your head!!

    • Melba

It is not a sin to make money. I applaud anyone who has what it takes to improve their financial standing, but why would he hide it in the Cayman Islands? Obviously it is to preclude paying taxes on it. We’ve seen enough of that already!!

Jefferson’s Rules for a Good Life

Thomas Jefferson compiled this list at the request of a father who had named his baby son Thomas Jefferson Smith. They were pared down somewhat from an earlier list Jefferson had sent to his granddaughter, Cornelia Jefferson Randolph. Here are 10 rules for a good life:

    1. Never put of until tomorrow what you can do today.
    2. Never trouble another for what you can do yourself.
    3. Never spend your money before you have it.
    4. Never buy what you don’t want because it is cheap; it will never be dear to you.
    5. Pride cost us more than hunger, thirst and cold.
    6. Never repent of having eaten too little.
    7. Nothing is troublesome that we do willingly.
    8. Don’t let the evils, which have never happened cost you pain.
    9. Always take things by their smooth handle.
    10. When angry, count to ten before you speak, if very angry, count to one hundred.

    • Capitalust

Mark Twain would have added: “If your job is to eat nasty, warty frogs, do it first thing in the morning and get on with your day. If your job is to eat TWO nasty warty frogs, eat the larger, nastier one first.” – This is diametrically oppostite from the liberal approach, which is to pass laws requiring others to eat your frogs for you.

    • http://ThePatriotUpdate Michael G.

Or do it like Mark Twain did: When angry count to 10. When really angry count to 4, then sware.

  • NOT UPSET ANYMORE

Newt has a back bone. We need that in a leader. NEWT IS THE ONE…..EVERYONE VOTE FOR NEWT!

    • http://Yahoo EVP

I just voted for Newt – Florida early voting! Go Newtie!

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

EVP…. I voted for Newt today…. Sure wish I could do it again tomorrow!!!

    • Al

NOT A FREAKIN CHANCE WILL I VOTE FOR “NEWT THE NUT”!

    • Oregon Bill

If not Newt, what will be your pick, just don’t say Ron Paul. A vote for him is just another vote for four more years of Obama.

  • Capitalust

It’s really very simple. Gingrich is a Reagan conservative, Romney is a Mass. liberal. Game, set and match.

    • Robert Young

Sorry Capitalust, but Ginrich is a far cry from a Regan Conservative. Newt is a Rino, One World Government Supporter, was removed as Speaker of the House for Ethics Violations when in Congress last time and has a lot of other baggage. He is not electable.

  • Jerry F.

Gingrich won because the great people of S.C. seen thru Romney’s mask,Gingrich won in every county exempt for 3,he won in every group exempt the $200,000 income and up,Romney won that, does that tell you something, and he won because the people of S.C. weren’t going to let the elits and pundits who to vote for,I salute you the great people of South Carolina.

    • scarolinarepublican

Why don’t you just vote for Obama? He loves class warfare. He hates sucessful people. Obama would rather use OUR money for his lifestyle than his own. I’ll take a rich man over a piker any day. Besides… just what did Newt do for his $1.6M from Freddie Mac anyway? Besides bring down the whole economy of this nation and destroy the real estate market? You class-envy types really bug me. Try success some time. You must be in the 49% who pay NO federal income tax.

    • Jay

Try doing this: label and list all the things you want in a president, what you want them to do and how you want the nation to be. then look at all the records of each candidate and I think you will find that Newt is the only one that has actually done what he said he would do! I for one and fed up with all the wussy look pretty smooth talking promise us anything liars we keep electing to every level of politics. I want an total bad a-ss in there that will kick congress in the rear, toss the editors of Time inc in jail, do a complete investigation of the Affirmative Action pres and put his sorry treasonous rear in jail!! Along with all the socialists democrats that lied to support his illegal election.

    • http://Yahoo EVP

Excuse me, it was our Pretender-in-chief who brought down the economy of our country. Open your eyes and ears for pity sakes. People like you are scary.

    • Johnnygard

Newt isn’t against success. He just brought up some of the things Obummer would bring up if Mitt was the nominee. We need things brought up in our primaries rather than during the month of October when it will be too late to change our candidate if he can’t handle the heat.

    • Jerry F.

I see from your comments you’re not one of those great people from S.C.If you would pay more to the real facts,Newt didn’t get 1.6 million, his firm got that,he got about 35 thousand a yr.Where do you get class envy out of the fact that Romney only won in one group the upper income. And yes I might be part of the 49% that don’t pay taxes,I’M RETIRED,you got a problem with that.I see a real bad soar losssser.

  • tmt

I love that ABC tried to discredit Newt in the last debate but ended up helping him to win SC!! Looks like everything the leftist media tries lately is backfiring. Thank you God for answering my prayers.

  • R.Cook

I am afraid Romnet would be a “wimpy” cabdidate. He has no fire.

Whoever wins the Republican nomination had better take a lesson from McCain’s failure last time. Mr. Nice Guy will not stand a chance against the machine Obummer is putting together. They are already digging for any dirt they can find on every potential Republican candidate. What we need is a trench fighter, a Pitt Bull or a pissed off grizzly unchained and running free. The Democrat’s campaign is going to be the dirtiest most corrupt campaign in history. We need a street fighter to rip their Socialist ideology to shreds and bury it in a deep dark grave where it belongs.
Everything about Obummer’s history, eligibility, past associations and current record must be on the table for investigation and use during the election campaign. If he is to be defeated it has to be a no holds barred down and dirty battle. If we are to win; we need to get the dirt, vet it for accuracy then bury them with it.
In the mean time we need to quit eating our own.

    • JOCASSEEJO

“a pissed off grizzly unchained and running free… We need a street fighter to rip their Socialist ideology to shreds and bury it in a deep dark grave where it belongs.

I may still vote for Paul but I think it would be absolutely hysterical to watch Newt debate Obama — with no teleprompters allowed. I like Paul’s adherence to the constitution but Newt is not just a great debater, he is really well informed and brilliant. Anyone but Obama and preferably not Romney!

    • Oregon Bill

Jane, I agree with everything except vote for Paul, it’s guaranteed to be four more for Obama, please support the Republican candidate, we need Obama gone.

  • Mustang

The Libs want Romney because he is another Mc Cain (RINO) and an OB in white skin

  • Joyce

    Newt Gingrich:
    1) is a CAREER POLITICION and made a lot of money while on the public payroll;
    2) is an ETHICS violator;
    3) was run out of the office of Speaker of the House by his OWN party;
    4) takes credit for what RONALD REAGAN ACCOMPLISHED, “as a Reagan conservative” every time he opens his mouth;
    5) has a VENDETTA against Mitt for Romney Pac ads which most agreed were mostly true but Newt call it ALL LIES;
    6) was a paid advisor to Freddie Mac just before it “went over the cliff” but was not wise enough to stear them away from what they were doing;
    7) has a “LOOSE CANNON” mouth which has gotten him in trouble in the past;
    8) has a LEGENDARY TEMPER, I question his emotional stability — we need a steady hand — what damage could he do with his temper?;
    9) never made a move to try to clean up the CORRUPTION in Congress or Washington;
    10) Supports illegal immigration;
    11) left wife #1 when she got cancer;
    12) left wife #2 when she got MS;
    13) admittedly had a 6 year affair with wife #3 while still married to wife #2;
    14) it seems REASONABLE he asked for an open marriage but again he says, “it’s ALL LIES;”

I’m sure there are more I haven’t thought of.
Yes, Newt did accomplish some GOOD things!
Are you sure this is what you want for President?

    • Johnnygard

Joyce, 1, 4, 5, 6, 9 (Jim Wright), 10, and 12 are lies or at least partial untruths. 2 and 3 are a bit of a stretch also. As for 7, tell us about that one. His “temper” hasn’t hurt him in the debates, when do you expect it will be a problem?

    • Joyce

Johnnygard, Just goes to show how LITTLE you know about Newt. As for Newt’s temper, why do YOU Think Newt was thrown out of the House of Representatives?

  • patxtra

hmm wrote a comment but got a msg that said I’ve said it before which is news to me, have not been on this site for some time.
Well to recapitulate..Romney and Santorum tell us the problems we have etc., but no action items on how to deal with them. Newt gets to the point, addresses the ? and offers his take on how to deal with it. Plus I don’t nod off when Newt talks…with the other two I become hypnotized by the repetition of the same thought fighting to keep my eyes open.

  • Rick

Let’s NEWT-ralize Obozo in November. I don’t think any of the candidates running are ideal. They all have their faults and their problems. They are human beings and therefore not perfect. We need to get rid of the Kenyan Kriminal and we need to get somebody in the race that can demolish him in the election. I like some of what Ron Paul has to say. I don’t like Romney at all. He’s too saccharin and plastic. Santorum doesn’t have enough experience. Gingrich is smart, he’s quick on his feet and he can roll with the punches and throw back twice what is thrown at him. The man is blunt and straightforward and he instills confidence in people. Look at how he handled John King from CNN in the debates. He smacked him down HARD. King should have shut up but he tried the Demonrat whiny finger pointing trick… it wasn’t my fault…waaaaaah…. and Newt slapped him down again. He did it with tact and civility and with the bearing of somebody that knows how to handle himself in a verbal sparring match. Obummer has to rely on a bazillion teleprompters to stumble his way through a speech. Newt will DEMOLISH him in a debate. Let the Demonrats throw all the mud they want to. Newt will throw it all right back in their faces and make them look like the fools that they are. Now is not the time for us to fight amongst ourselves. Let’s band together and unite behind somebody that has the ability to whoop Obummer in the election.

  • cleareyes
