Gas Prices Climbing Toward $5 Per Gallon

At one time, $5 per gallon gas seemed like a far-fetched idea, but that is no longer the case.
As of Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the Chicago area is $4.11, compared with $3.71 a month ago, and about $3.10 a gallon at this time a year ago.
Some experts say $5 per gallon gas is possible by Memorial Day-or sometime in summer. Others caution that reaching that mark is unlikely over the next six weeks. In Chicago, the prices keep rising to near-record levels–with no relief in sight.
Right now, oil markets are so skittish that records set in 2008 could fall.

one of the nominees of obama stated that we have to figure how to get the price of gas up to $10.00 per gallon. I don’t remember if it was the Secretary of Energy or the Secretary of Interior. This secretary was on CBS one of those Sundays. Not sure which secreatary it was.
If the POS in the White House doesn’t get the prices up to at least $8 a gallon, all his green initiatives are too expensive. He thinks that once gas prices get high enough, his crazy, pie-in-the-sky environmental plans will look good to us stupid Americans. Remember, HE told us that energy prices will “necessarily have to skyrocket”.
we have all this oil and gas here in our own backyard, why can’t we use our own and thumb our noses at the other oil countries??????
I don’t get it!! Sorros said about three months ago t\he would raise prices to 4-5 bucks a gallon!! I filled up and recommended all my friends to fill up…and they did because of it…

Sure, getting rid of Obama would be a great first step, but getting rid of the corrupt politicians would be a great larger goal.

might be because the gas companies need to start greasing the wheels in washington for there upcoming campains,

Sorry, but you don’t really know what you are talking about. Gas is always more expensive when warmer weather arrives because the gas blends have to be changed. That happens every year, no matter what. You need to realize that at least 25% of what you are paying is federal and state taxes and surcharges. Hopefully, you aren’t oblivious to what’s going on in the Middle East. The political upheaval and uncertainty drives the price of crude up with commodity speculators. Another major factor is we have to buy the majority of our crude from OPEC nations because Obama and his cronies won’t let American companies expand drilling on American territory. If that happened, you’d see prices drop a couple bucks a gallon once we were using our own oil and not OPEC’s.

The oil reserves in the USA are larger than Saudi ever had, if we drill now ON LAND we may have to eat high prices till we can produce here. And NEVER export the oil to anyone. It won’t stop at $5.00 a gallon, but I’m just wondering where the mainstream media’s outrage is, that they spoke so loudly about when gas prices approached $4.00 a gallon, when Bush was President? They seem strangely quiet about it now that Obama is President, no outrage or indignation that they screamed about to Bush. I wonder why, another mystery I guess.

I along with my three brothers now hold the Mineral Rights on 307 acres of land near Casper that we inherited from my Grandfather. I made a prediction when Obama won that $5.00 a gal gas would hit by 2012 and $7.00 a gal gas by 2014. First the Fed has not hit the Gas tax as much as Europe but they have less business taxes to pay which is why many Co’s are moving overseas. Then when Clinton tried to balance the budget he instead of Refinery upgrades he dismantled seven of them leaving us very short in the ability to refine oil at the pace it is needed. Most of what is stored is for Nat. Emgr. We must get out of and away from Mid-East Oil. They hate us and could cut this country off at any time. Obama seems to like Oil but off shore drilling. This country has enough Nat. Gas to last it 200 years but Fracking problems allow the Methane to enter ground water so a system of filtering needs to be addressed. Elec. cars are going to not save anyone much when you see your Elec. Bill. which is already to high as some family’s have up to three cars or more to charge every night. China is having to dismantle its Coal Fire systems in order to clean up the air so they can hold large sporting events and they want the Olympics. They are going after Oil and could take all of what the Saudis have. China also needs Nat. Gas so if we have so much give them a Trillion Dollars worth and end our borrowing from them because if they ever decided to dump the Treasury Bonds they hold this country would not only default but would never come back as a Democracy. Next years deficit is expected to reach 1.5 Trillion which includes the cuts that the Rep. Party have proposed. As large as the Simson Bowles cuts were they were not near enough. The problem of cutting Medicare is going to change anyway because we are heading toward a Federal Health Plan. I at the age of 70 have been retired for five years and I pay $96.50 a month that is taken out of my Social Security but also have Veterans Health and one Gov. Agency cannot pay into another so I have never used Medicare B and you that have it know it does not cover Amb. trips anyway. Also those of you that have Veterans Insurance know already that if you happen to get behind in your Co-Pays and yes there will be Co-Pays know that the Fed can garnishee your SS just as they do if you don’t pay your taxes. Do a little study and think about the charges that will come with the new health bill. Also to insure the so called 30 million there will be a need for at least 65,000 more Dr. to handle the increase plus Hosp. space and yes there will be lines and long ones just as there is in Veterans Hosp. now. Folks think about what is really happening and it was not Bush, Clinton, Reagan or Carter. It goes back at least 40 years when Johnson moved the SS out of its own fund into the General Fund which paid for most of the Viet Nam war and every President included Obama has borrowed from it and not paid it back since. A few months ago Obama added another month of unemployment benefits to those that have not found jobs and the money has to come from somewhere. So it will come from future taxes that will feed Medicare but Medicare is changing so it has been added to the future taxes to go into Social Security. That is how Washington does it. Social Security is said to have two trillion in its fund but so much has already been borrowed that it is going broke fast and so the two trillion is not money but an IOU. Beef up the borders both Canada and Mexico and start taking care of this country as we all want it. Have a Grand Day…..
We have to ask ourselves ,why did obama travel so much? What has happened when he came back from traveling in the east? Strange gas rose high because obama said we need gas to be $7/gallon. Upheavel has occurred in east, people asking obama to help, why did the people ask for obama? The areas which give us oil is no longer able, why? Who was there, first, and before? Obama!
Maybe its time to think about recall or impreachment of obama before 2012. Does he really represent us or does he represent his 36 czars. We need to take action and not just say a few words. I am not a Liberal by any means but one fear I have in the next election is a Kennedy. Ted was liked and Jack was very popular. The Kennedy has a lot of power even in its name. Look out for Ted’s son who has been in politics and actually had more experience than Obama and he recently got engaged so he is even planning a First Lady. In little towns on the Ohio River called Portsmouth and all around there, the PRICE IS .20 CENTS HIGHER! Why is that?
