Even in the midst of a bizarre, surreal, bombardment of stories regarding how the radical left seems to be on the advance, many were still taken aback last week by a story that seemed to be beyond the pale. It turns out that Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States and the man who came within a whisker of becoming President, had just sold his failed television network to Al Jazeera. For those of you who are not aware, Gore’s TV network, Current TV is a propaganda arm of the climate change/global warming alarmist in chief. Likewise, Al Jazeera is the primary propaganda arm for radical Islam.
Glenn Beck wanted to make an offer on the network because he could have used the band width to grow his own network, Blaze TV. However, Beck was summarily dismissed and told that Gore would never consider doing business with Beck. Yet the former Vice President and Presidential race loser had no qualms whatsoever in taking hundreds of millions (a ludicrous valuation for a network with few viewers) from the same Middle Eastern TV network that covered for Osama Bin Laden. Apparently Gore felt that they would be just wonderful to work with.
This transaction was admittedly out there, even for the left but it came as no surprise to me. I saw this coming in 2008. Back then I saw a perfect compatibility between the goals of Islam and the goals of the modern day “green” movement. I used that compatibility as the building block of my political thriller, Going Green: For Some It Has Nothing To Do With The Environment.
In that story the fictional former Senator Aaron Hatcher seeks a partnership for his environmental initiative Smart Power USA (wherein coal fueled power plants will be shut down to prevent climate change) with one Ian Flannery. In the story, Flannery is known within the DC beltway as a highly effective lobbyist for a number of special interests. He most frequently champions environmental causes. Unbeknownst to Hatcher or his former colleague, current Senator Keitha Dobbs, Ian Flannery is actually Muhammad Raschi, radical Islamist. As the subtitle of the novel says, Raschi’s actual motives have absolutely nothing to do with protecting the environment.
In that fictional story, Hatcher conveniently chooses not to ask where Raschi (AKA Flannery) gets his financial backing so he can at least be genuine if he ever has to plead ignorance. In the real life case of Al Gore however, Gore knowingly and willingly made the choice that he would rather do business with, and lend support to an entity openly hostile to the United States than to deal with a patriotic conservative like Beck.
How can this be? Well, perhaps it was nothing more than good old fashioned love of money and greed from Gore, but I doubt that. Instead, it appears that Al Gore, genuinely believes that radical Islam holds a morally superior world view than do American conservatives. What a truly dangerous delusion Gore is living under. What’s more, the Democratic Party was so enamored with a man with this deplorably poor judgment that they nominated him to lead their party and the nation.
But let us look at the larger picture. Why would Al Jazeera even want a largely failed television network? And why would they overpay to such a high degree. Again, I turn to the plot of my book for the answer. My reason for plotting a marriage between radical Islam and the radical green movement is because, in my opinion, they share a common goal. They both want to instigate the collapse of free market capitalism and thus the west. Both entities loathe and despise the west. And they hate it despite the fact that western democracy and capitalism has elevated the lifestyles of more people and in a shorter timeframe than any other political/economic system in history. Now they may hate the west for entirely different reasons, but it is my opinion that they both hold to the adage, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.
Finally, how hypocritical and yet typical of leftists like Gore that he denounces the system that now affords him a lifestyle of unimaginable opulence. In the afterword of my book I posit a question by providing an example from culture. Allow me to update it and resubmit it to you here:
Matt Damon has a new movie out entitled “Promised Land”. The movie is about fracking. Though I have never seen it, I am confident I can predict the basic plot. It goes something like this: greedy and thoughtless corporate bigwigs poison a community and devastate the environment all for the sake a little natural gas and the almighty dollar. If we want to know who would do such a thing all the hero of the movie need do is discover who benefited…who profited…they only need follow the money trail.
In the case of a militant and anti-western marriage between radical Islam and radical environmentalists, what is the end game? If we cede our economic and thus our national security to China, the nation that brought a new coal plant online each and every month last year… who benefits?…who profits? If we lay our children’s economic future on the altar of sacrifice to the pagan idol of mother earth by tailoring our energy policy to adhere to a failed scientific theory… who benefits, who profits. Perhaps we should follow the money trail.
