Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is taking “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” seriously.

Over the last several days, three cities have decided to block plans for Chick-fil-A stores because of statements of faith by company president Dan Cathy, including support for traditional marriage. One of the institutes supporting next Wednesday’s Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day — encouraging people to lunch at their nearest shop — is Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth.

“And so we just wanted to take a stand and say that first of all, we believe in his First Amendment rights to live out his beliefs,” explains seminary spokesman Thomas White. “And secondly, we affirm Chick-fil-A’s stance for the views of traditional family values. So we’re coming alongside, and Southwestern’s going to buy sandwiches for our students, staff, and faculty to be able to go to Chick-fil-A and eat there.”
