This story caught my eye recently;
“A group of House Democrats introduced a bill that would prevent the term “Redskins” from being trademarked; a move intended to put pressure on the NFL’s Washington football team to change its name. The legislation known as The Non-Disparagement of American Indians in Trademark Registrations Act of 2013 is co-sponsored by Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), and comes days after a federal trademark panel heard arguments over whether the team name was a slur.”
In the movie network who could forget the famous line “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” Well I’m tired of those who look for something to be offended about.
How is it that we have become a nation populated by wimps and crybabies. Liberal politicians spend their time offended by things that don’t matter, instead of solving real issues like the economy, jobs, or threats to national security.
The world of political correctness that started under the first Bush administration, and was placed on steroids by the Clintons has become so out of control that harmless and previously inoffensive terms now offend. What happened to “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me? “ How did we survive before PC? Have we become so pansified that people can no longer express themselves? Here’s some tough love for the politically correct: if you want to be offended, fine by me. If you cannot laugh at yourself and the world you have deeper issues than someone calling you a name.
Years ago Americans were upset with the remarks made by a Japanese politician who stated the view of Japanese businessmen and intellectuals that “America is plagued by crime, poverty and drugs, its families are disintegrating and its children are illiterate. It is a power-hungry country that can destroy Iraq but is incapable of balancing its budget. Its industry is uncompetitive and its executives a bunch of “crybabies …” The article was written in 1991 but is even more appropriate today.
If the Japanese thought we were crybabies in a crumbling society back then, what do we look like today?
We can’t even express simple facts, as we saw in the case of Ms. Fluke. People were not allowed to be upset and voice their opinion about her promiscuity. Instead we manufacture an emotional crisis, feelings are hurt, lawsuits follow. Every bad decision an American makes is now someone else’s fault.
Countless people are offended by Christian symbols and holidays and freely vocalize their distaste, but refuse to speak the truth about militant Islam. Instead the same group that uses inflammatory language about Christians is quick to correct anyone’s use of the phrase “militant islamist” as we might offend the folks who hate us.
We have even gone to the verge of crazy by allowing people who are in this country ILLEGALLY to be offended that people refer to them as Illegal Aliens because the term has negative connotations. News Flash: doing something Illegal should have negative connotations!
Recently reporters chastised the History channel series The Bible claiming Satan looked like Barack Obama. Lots of accusations flew around but it is funny how when dictators Ahmadinejad and Chavez referred to America and Obama as the great Satan, whose smell still lingered on the stage at the UN, the mainstream media and liberals in America were not only silent, but were not offended in the least.
Besides there is no way the producers of the show had Obama in mind as a friend shared with me: Hell does not run deficits , Satan is the prince of liars while Obama is the King, and Satan does not need a teleprompter to tell a lie. Besides I don’t remember reading anything in the bible about Satan eating dog.
The most offended today are Atheists. They claim there is no God and are anti religion but persist in their quest to force their own “non belief” religion on everyone. They are quick to attack any Christian display as offensive. They exhibit NO tolerance for Christians but abound in tolerance for all other religious belief systems. Now they are crying to have atheist chaplains in the military and atheist meeting areas for church services because not having any is unfair. They complain about all Christian holidays, but no one complains about theirs on April 1st. As Psalm 14:1 states “’The fool says in his heart, there is no God.”
With all the crying, it is no surprise that people like Allen West and Dr. Ben Carson are so refreshing. They are straight shooters, truth tellers and they don’t feel the need to apologize for it. They are not easily offended and they don’t get hung up on political correctness, as both understand the Constitution gives you the right to be offended.
Dr. Carson’s speech at the National prayer breakfast clearly identified our problem when he said “…it’s very difficult to speak to a large group of people these days and not offend someone… The PC police are out in force at all times…we’ve reached the point where people are afraid to actually talk about what they want to say because somebody might be offended… We’ve got to get over this sensitivity…it keeps people from saying what they really believe…what we need to do in this PC world is forget about unanimity of speech and unanimity of thought, and we need to concentrate on being respectful to those people with whom we disagree. … PC is dangerous, because… one of the founding principles was freedom of thought and freedom of expression… [PC] it muffles people. It puts a muzzle on them. And at the same time, keeps people from discussing important issues while the fabric of this society is being changed.” Good points all Dr. Carson. It is time for Americans to man up and stop whining. It is time to deal with the important issues at hand.
