A recent poll established that 25 percent of Americans are still undecided as to which presidential candidate will get their vote in November 2012. My immediate reaction to this information was, “Are you kidding? How could anyone still be undecided?” I worry about Americans who cannot find sufficient differences between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to know which one to vote for in November. In fact, I worry more about this apparently substantial voting block than I worry about the dependent, entitled souls who support Obama.
Let’s be clear. There are definite reasons why conservatives and libertarians might be reluctant to support Romney. I wrote about those reasons in a recent column at this site titled “Hold My Nose and Vote for Romney,” which is what I will do in November. But conservatives and libertarians who cannot bring themselves to vote for Romney plan to simply stay home on November 6th (a huge mistake but that is a topic for another day). The 25 percent of voters who claim to be undecided plan to support one of the two major candidates, they just cannot decide which one: Obama or Romney. You have to wonder where these people have been for the past four years.
Even if an undecided voter is turned off by Romney, surely that individual can understand that only a fool would vote for a president with a record like Barack Obama’s. After all, the president appears to be bent on destroying America. This fact alone should help clear up any remaining indecision in the minds of voters. Just in case the 25 percent of voters who claim to still be undecided have not been paying attention to what is happening around them, economist Thomas Sowell paints a word picture of what he calls “Obama’s America.” It is an America characterized by the Occupy movement.
Sowell’s description of “Obama’s America” is provided here with the hope that it will find its way into the hands of undecided voters: “It is an America where history is rewritten to honor dictators, murderers, and thieves. It is an America where violence, racism, hatred, class warfare and murder are all promoted as acceptable means of overturning the American civil society. It is an America where humans have been degraded to the level of animals…It is an America where the basic tenets of civil society, including faith, family, a free press and individual rights, have been rejected. It is an America where our founding documents have now been shredded and, with them, every person’s guaranteed liberties. It is an America where, ultimately, great suffering will come to the American people, but rulers like Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, liberal college professors, union bosses and all other loyal liberal/Communist Party members will live in opulent splendor.”
Tell me you feel compelled to vote for a third-party candidate as a matter of principle and, although I will disagree with you, I will at least understand. Tell me you plan to stay home rather than vote for Obama or Romney and I will disagree with your plan, but, once again, I will understand and respect it. But tell me you plan to vote but cannot decide between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney and I will wonder about your sanity.
