Jesus Was A Liberal????

Of all the claims that liberals make in an attempt to gain credibility for their policies and programs, none is more absurd than their claim that Jesus was a liberal.  Their thinking—if you can call it that—is easy to discern.  If the son of God was a liberal, then liberals must be right, even if logic, facts, and common sense suggest otherwise. What better way to give one’s views credibility than to claim Jesus shared them? On the other hand, I find it ironic that liberals would invoke the name of Jesus to validate their political views when they so blatantly ignore everything he stood for and, in the case of secular humanists, deny his very existence.

Even the most radical liberal should be able to see that attaching a political label to the son of God is a sacrilege to be avoided by Democrats and Republicans alike.  A Sunday school dropout knows that neither liberals nor conservatives can lay exclusive claim to Jesus.  He was not a political figure.  His mission on earth was infinitely more important than the everyday issues that drive politics in America.  Politicians deal with the lives of Americans—Jesus deals with their souls.  What can be done without crossing a line that liberals and conservatives should never cross is this: compare the teachings of Jesus with the policies, practices, and worldviews of liberals.  This easily accomplished task will refute beyond even a shadow of doubt the claim that Jesus was a liberal.

To begin with the obvious, abortion on demand is one of the cornerstones of the liberal’s worldview.  Did Jesus support abortion?  Hardly.  While He walked the earth, Jesus was a consistent and steadfast teacher of God’s law as set forth in the Torah.  Part of that law is the Sixth Commandment that says “thou shalt not murder.”  Further, Jesus exemplified the admonition in Proverbs 31:8 which requires us to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and to ensure justice for those who are perishing—an apt description of helpless unborn babies.

Liberals consider the legalization of same-sex marriage and open homosexuality in the military to be givens, issues that are beyond debate.  But as a strict follower and teacher of the Torah, Jesus would have rejected homosexuality, a practice clearly proscribed in Leviticus 18:22.  Liberals like to claim that Jesus walked not among the upright but among prostitutes who he forgave.  Indeed he did.  His mission on earth was to reach out to hopeless sinners and given them hope.  But having provided help and hope He always left them with the admonition to “go and sin no more.”  He did not approve of their lives—he wanted to change them.

Concerning the left’s strategy of using envy and class warfare to turn Americans against each other, Jesus taught the proscription against envy found in Exodus 20:15-17: “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”  Further, the second part of the Great Commandment as set forth personally by Jesus admonishes us to “love our neighbors as ourselves,” not to envy their material wealth or resent their good fortune.  Rather than deviously attempting to coopt Jesus’ approval on behalf of their questionable policies, liberals would be better served—as would America—if they spent more time studying His life and emulating His example.  For a more thorough treatment of this subject, see my book, Right Wing Handbook, available at www.patriotdepot.com.
