One of my all-time favorite news articles occurred recently when former president Jimmy Carter returned from a (very unauthorized) trip to North Korea.
Carter has formed a group called the Elders, a group of senior world elitists who hope to bring “peace” in any way possible.
Without the White House’s approval, Carter and one of his Elders, former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari went to North Korea hoping to broker sanction agreements. They returned to the States thinking they would meet with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to give her a de-briefing about their trip.
They thought wrong—and Clinton’s reaction was priceless.
From ForeignPolicy.com:
It’s no secret at all that the Elders’ trip to North Korea was viewed as extremely unhelpful by the governments both in Washington and Seoul. Chris Nelson reported on April 29 that Clinton reacted strongly when asked in a morning meeting if she wanted to meet with Carter. From the Nelson report:
The performance of President Carter and his delegation in N. Korea this week was either shameful or fatuous . . . or both . . . and exemplifies why Carter had no . . . zero . . . USG support going in, and even less coming out, per an alleged eye witness account of Sec. St. Clinton at the morning meeting the other day:
‘Do you want to meet with Carter?’ Clinton is looking at papers, and just says ‘No.’ Then she pauses, looks up and adds, ‘HELL no!!!’
One reason Ms. Clinton may be a little testy regarding Carter’s trip is because while he was there he told the North Koreans that the United States and South Korea have “chosen to deliberately withhold food aid to the North Korean people because of political or military issues not related and is really indeed a human rights violation.”
For a man who has been called “The Peacemaker” president, his recent actions seem to be the complete opposite.
I checked out his Elders website and was also stunned at the very anti-Israel propaganda he’s trying to sell.
The following, written by Carter, is called “Support the Palestinian Unity Government”:
This is a decisive moment. Under the auspices of the Egyptian government, Palestine’s two major political movements — Fatah and Hamas — are signing a reconciliation agreement on Wednesday that will permit both to contest elections for the presidency and legislature within a year. If the United States and the international community support this effort, they can help Palestinian democracy and establish the basis for a unified Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza that can make a secure peace with Israel. If they remain aloof or undermine the agreement, the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory may deteriorate with a new round of violence against Israel. Support for the interim government is critical, and the United States needs to take the lead.
Among many things wrong with Carter’s statement, the two “major political movements” he mentions, the Fatah and Hamas, are TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS who have one thing in common: their hatred for Israel and all-things-Western. The fact that Carter seriously believes he and his Elders can reach any type of ‘peaceful’ agreement proves he is either completely naïve and/or out-of-touch with reality.
Carter went on to say:
Both sides understand that their goal of an independent Palestinian state cannot be achieved if they remain divided. The agreement also signals the growing importance of an emerging Egyptian democracy. Acting as an honest broker, the interim Egyptian government coaxed both sides to agreement by merging the October 2009 Cairo Accord that Fatah signed with additions that respond to Hamas’s reservations.
Egypt, an “honest broker”? Is he talking about the same Egypt we all now know about, probably led by the Muslim Brotherhood? The same Egypt who literally wants to wipe Israel off the map?
Ya gotta figure—if even ultra-liberal Hillary Clinton is disgusted by Jimmy Carter’s behavior all us Conservatives should especially be alarmed. He is supposedly representing America in his anti-Israel/pro-Islam/Hamas/terrorist rants.
But it doesn’t stop there. Also on Carter’s Elders site is a video in which Carter explains his thoughts on “why religion is one of the ‘basic causes’ of violations of women’s rights.”
Yes, Mr. Carter, women are being abused in unspeakable ways throughout the world—but in particular there is one “religious group” in which women are especially treated like dirt: Muslims and their Sharia Law. I think it’s interesting that Carter didn’t mention Sharia by name—although he did lump together Muslims, Hindus and Catholics.
I used to believe that while Carter was a horrible president he was a good, decent man who had America’s best interest in his ‘lustful’ heart—but now I believe he is nothing short of dangerous.
The Elders’ next meddling mission is Cyprus. The Greek Cypriots—made up mostly of Orthodox Christians–and the Turkish Cypriots who are Muslims, have been fighting for decades over the Cyprus territory in Greece. As seems to be the case throughout the Middle East, the Muslims in Cyprus want to take over all of the Christian land and landmarks and replace them with mosques.
The following is from My Greek Odyssey, a blog by a young man who lives in Greece and is experiencing the Cyprus/Turk problems first-hand:
The Greek Cypriots have responded to the loss of their ancestral homes, the destruction of their churches and cemeteries, the looting of their historical legacy not with violence but instead, admirably, with a demand for justice. They have made and continue to make every attempt to achieve a just and equitable settlement. Being willing to talk and even compromise does not mean settling for crumbs off the occupying power’s table. It means justice for all.
After seeing Jimmy Carter’s website and reading his own words, I’m sure we can all gather which side he and his Elders will take.
I also found it very interesting that in a press release about the brutal mass-murder of 3,000 people in Côte d’Ivoire, there was not one word mentioned that all those people were Christians and they were slaughtered by Muslims.
“They (the Elders) emphasized the importance of improving security,” the release said, “so that people feel safe enough to return to their homes, reopen their businesses, send their children back to school and carry out other normal activities.”
Since Carter and his Elders won’t spell it out, I will: The reason those 3,000 Christians were killed and almost 1 million were displaced in Cote d’Ivoire is because Muslims want to kill them—just as they do throughout the world.
But don’t ever expect Jimmy Carter to say that.
