NEWTering Obama, Part 2

Written on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 by

In my previous column advocating Newt Gingrich for the Republican nomination for President, I stressed his strength both as an economic conservative and a brilliant debater and explainer of conservative ideas.  Here, I will cover his strengths in other issues important to conservatives.

Conservative positions

In a previous column The Problem with Libertarianism, I stress the importance of all three “legs” of the Conservative “stool”:

1. Pro-life, pro-family, supporter of traditional morality.

2. Free market, small government, low tax rates.

3. Strong national defense.

These “legs” are all necessary to support the stool.  When any one of them collapse, the others follow.  Indeed, as shown in the article, the legs all support each other as well, so an even stronger analogy is a three-legged stool with reinforcing trusses between each pair of legs.  Here we will consider #1 and #3; see the previous column for #2.

Pro-life stalwart

I’ve pointed out before, if there is no right to life, then no other right matters. Newt received a 98.6% lifetime rating from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) over his 20 years in Congress, including four years as Speaker.  That means that Newt aligned with the NLRC 70 out of 71 times.  Especially when contrasted with the infanticide-supporting abortion-extremist currently in the White House, it’s vital to see that the glass is 98.6% full rather than 1.4% empty.  Furthermore, Newt’s solitary vote contrary to the NRLC’s position was over an aspect of welfare reform, which the NRLC wrongly thought made it more likely for unmarried mothers to seek abortions.

Furthermore, Newt realizes that the holocaust against the unborn has been advanced most by the courts.  He is the one candidate who’s serious about  appointing constitutionalist judges rather than leftist pseudo-legislators.  This is one of the most important of all Presidential functions yet it’s rarely mentioned, because the judges have great influence for decades after the President leaves office.  Conversely, when Romney had his chance as Massachusetts governor, the Boston Globe reported:

“Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show. In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters, and 14 registered Democrats.”

Gingrich would also re-instate Reagan’s “Mexico City Policy” that prohibits federal funding for overseas abortions, and forbid any healthcare organizations from forcing staffers to perform abortions.  He would also cut off funding to the  abortion and sex-trafficking business Planned Parenthood, founded by the racist eugenicist Margaret Sanger to eliminate what she called “human weeds,” including black people.

School choice

This is one area largely neglected by conservatives, yet it could be one of the most important of all.  Far too many send their kids to the government schools, staffed by members of the fanatically Democrat teachers unions.  Then every generation, we are surprised at how the Dems win the youth vote.  It was so bad last time that even the professing evangelical Christian segment of the under-30s voted for Obama.  And this was despite his abortion extremism, support for infanticide and homosexual behavior.

But my only surprise is why conservative parents are surprised.  After all, if you send your kids to Caesar, don’t be surprised if they return as Romans.  And the very fact of sending kids to government schools implicitly concedes that government knows best.  Why should we be surprised that if the kids unconsciously reason that if Big Government is best for education, then it might be good for everything else.

A better educational system would deprive the Dems of a vital voting bloc.  And one reason they have this bloc is that parents are denied the right to choose their schools, unless they are very rich.  And even those parents who choose alternative schooling are still funding the Democrat government schools with their taxes.

Gingrich proposes to fund the pupils directly, and if the schools want any of this funding, they will need to attract them, by convincing parents that they are right for their children.  In this country, so many good things have been produced by companies competing with each other for our business.  So it’s bizarre that in the “Land of the Free”, one of the most important products of all, our children’s education, is provided by a system more like the Soviet Union used to provide goods (I’ve been there before it collapsed, and saw first-hand the long lines, poor quality products, and surly service).

Newt would also protect the rights of home-schooled children, whose parents also pay taxes after all.

Patriotism and strong defense

I’ve already explained why Gingrich is right and Paul is wrong about the need to defend ourselves against terrorists and Iranian nukes.  This was reinforced in the recent SC debate, as shown by the following:

Paul: “My point is, that if another country does to us what we do to others, we aren’t going to like it very much. So I would say maybe we ought to consider a golden rule in foreign policy,” Paul said as the crowd laughed and jeered. “We endlessly bomb these other countries and then we wonder why they get upset with us?”

A number of Paul supporters have slanderously accused the conservative and largely Christian audience of “booing the Golden rule.”  No, they were booing his disgracefully unpatriotic “Blame-America-First” attitude, and his insinuation that our country has violated this rule.  Conversely, Gingrich received a standing ovation for:

“Bin Laden plotted deliberately bombing American embassies, bombing the U.S.S. cole, and killing 3,100 people on September 11th. … Andrew Jackson had a pretty clear cut about America’s enemies: kill them.”

Also on state level, Gingrich supports State rights to defend their borders against illegal immigrants.  In particular, on his first day as President, he would issue a number of executive orders, including:

“Instruct the Attorney General to withdraw all immigration-related lawsuits against states immediately, including those pending in Arizona and South Carolina. The Obama Administration refuses to enforce federal immigration laws, and instead sues states who are merely trying to enforce the laws that the federal government neglects.”

Gun defender

And not only does Newt support a strong national defense, he supports a strong personal defense.  America, right from its founding, has protected the right to self-defense.  Instead, leftists want to reduce gun crime by disarming law-abiding criminals.  This is like controlling drunk driving by confiscating all cars.   To see where this leads—more crime as citizens are deprived of their means of self-defence—just look at the UK (see The Gold Standard of Gun Control: The English Experience).

In the current administration, Obama’s hand-picked Attorney General, the racist Eric Holder,  launched the corrupt “Fast and Furious” operation to try to set up gun stores for vexatious lawsuits.  Good men died, and to his credit,  Ron Paul has demanded that Holder be fired and criminal charges brought against him.

But Gingrich is a long-time friend of the NRA, received an A or A+ rating throughout his two decades in congress, and received their Defender of the Second Amendment award in 2010.

While Newt wasn’t my first choice, in my view, he is the best of the remainder by a fair margin.  While my previous column stressed his record as an economic conservative, he could well be the best on social conservatism and national security conservatism since Reagan.   Patriots must do everything they can to get the current America-hating incumbent of the White House, and take our country back.  They could do far worse than President Gingrich.

The following is how author Dick Williams described Newt’s attitude toward pro-life issues when he became Speaker of the House in 1995….

Gingrich is opposed to abortion but does not believe the nation is ready to enact a constitutional ban. In the first three months of 1995, while the Contract With America was being debated, he angered some Republican congressmen by detouring them from anti-abortion amendments to bills and by putting aside their arguments that a welfare reform package might lead to an increase in abortions.

If there is any group within Christianity that should be the most consistent, the most vocal, the most persistent, and the most scriptural in its opposition to war and the warfare state, it is conservative Christians who look to the Bible as their sole authority. Yet, never at any time in history have so many of these Christians held such unholy opinions. The association they have with the Republican Party is unholy. The admiration they have for the military is unholy. The indifference they have toward war is unholy. The callous attitude they have toward the deaths of foreigners is unholy. The idolatry they manifest toward the state is unholy.

    • Johnnygard

daves, an admitted Obummer supporter, is against Newt. Like other Democrats, Newt is the candidate that they fear the most. That alone should be enough reason for conservatives to vote for Newt.

    • WASP

He’s a libtard plant in these forums. Just ignore him. Soon Obumbler and he will just go away.

    • http://verizon Ann Rand

WASP… Can we get a guarantee on that??

    • daves

But I am posting facts about Mr. Gingrich. Feel free to question my motivation but try and prove me wrong.

    • Nathaniel Davidson

DaveS is a known leftist and atheist, so why should he care what the Bible says. In any case, I’ve already refuted such claims in my column last year, Countering the Churchian Left.

    • daves

Be careful you do not bear false witness Nathaniel.

    • Mocha 10

Please give us your definition of “UNHOLY”? There was only one perfect human on earth and he stood for Love of our fellow man. Anyone who is attempting to take my freedoms from me or restricts my speech or tells me I’m evil, tells me he does not Love his fellow man. We have a Constitution written by men who feared God. They wrote it because they loved their fellowmen and their country.

    • daves

Going against the teachings of Jesus.

    Gingrich is a Globalist
    Romney is a Globalist
    Santorum is a Globalist

    Look Up:

How to Avoid voting for a Globalist Puppet

Globalist’s do not neuter each other

Ron Paul wil neuter The Fed, Obama and The Globalists!

    • Donald DeHoff

Terry, You are part of the crowd who will push Paul at every turn. I could make a post entitled, “FISH FOR SALE”! and within minutes one of the Paul supporters would have a “support Paul” reply. You and most of your friends have no conceipt of what Paul actually stands for. He is an admitted dyed in the wool, Libertarian (Used to called
“Laissez Faire”). I know of no country in the world today that touts the libertarian cause. Many countries have libertarian parties, but most have evolved into socialist, facist or communist governments, with many becomming dictatorships. Europe is awash with them. There are a few very small countries that have moderate socialist governments, but their libertarian efforts have mainly disappeared. All supporters of Paul should do their homework and then compare notes. Let us change our Republic, Constitutional and freedom way of life system via the workable evolutionary method and not by any revolutionary methods. There will far less blood in the streets–don’t throw out the baby with the dirty bath water.

    • Johnnygard

Most Paul “supporters” don’t care a whit about Ron Paul. They are Democrats that either want Obummer reelected or they realize BHO is lame, or they are druggies, or they are pacifists (or some combination).

    • June

Terry-Dr. Paul is “Casper Milquetoast” disguised as a presidential candidate. If we were to wind up with a “President Paul”, we could kiss our military AND our national security GOODBY!

Did anyone hear Obama’s line about putting all power in executive branch? Chavez?

I can not stand to watch or listen to him even if I am playing the B S game. That is the game where ever time he lies you throw the B S flag. Needless to say it takes more than one flag for his speeches or you better be quick to retrieve.
I did hear on the news he wants more power.

The only way to change things in this country is to get back to the US Constitution and the rule of law . When those in the Nation capital finally realize that We The People are the ones in charge and not them will thing change for the better.

    • tod

And The ONLY WAY TO DO THAT Charles IS Dr.Ron Paul 2012 !!

  • tod

newt is a dirty crooked slim ball, his own History Speaks for that !!! Dr.Ron Paul 2012 for the ONLY PROVEN HONEST(for Well Over 30 Years)God Fearing Patriot running for President,PERIOD !!!

    • Donald DeHoff

Tod, Ron Paul has many good ideas, but he is an admitted full blown Libertarian. There is not a single Libertarian country in the world today. To save time an space, see my other comment on Dr. Paul. I do admire his intestinal fortitude, but me, being age “almost 80″, I can see he does not have the stamina to undeertake the rigors of the 24/7 oval office. After each of his debates he appears exhausted and walks almost in a stupor. His biggest fault however, is libertarianism which is an extreme idiology effort, that frequently evolves into socialism, facism or communism. Sir, do your homework. Finally, he is alsocompletly out of touch on world events and the military. Again, see my other comments.

    • tod

As far as his age God Will take care of him,for God Says Blessed are the Peace keepers, Donald DeHoff !!! And as far as being the Police keepers of the World, that’s a Guaranteed Bankruptcy just as the Russia did fighting Afghanistan!!! Wake Up and vote for a HONEST President for ONCE !!!

    • Nathaniel Davidson

Indeed so. Compare a recent column The Problem with Libertarianism.

If the more fanatical Ron Paul supporters carry out their childish blackmail threat of voting third party if RP doesn’t win, they will be handing back power to the most anti-conservative and anti-libertarian president ever. But they will bask in their assumed moral superiority of “voting their conscience”.

    • Johnnygard

tod, You say “dirty crooked slim ball, his own History Speaks for that”, so maybe you should try to explain. Out of, what was it, 84 charges the Dems tried to slime him with, only one had the slightest merit. Newt agreed to pay the price of the investigation, but was later exonorated. The Freddie Mac thing was totally legal, so you are a slandering idiot. But most people knew that when they saw you want Paul for Pres.
Would a Pres Ron Paul have rescued the the recent two hostages? He wouldn’t even have had choppers within a thousand miles.

    • tod

Yes he would, and if we are attack he would take it to them with all our military force and wouldn’t put limits on the way they did it.The other Difference is he wouldn’t rebuild them when it’s over, and would make them pay for the cost of putting them back in there place !!!

    • Johnnygard

tod, How would Ron Paul rescue anyone after he pulls all the troops back home? If he wanted to send an aircraft carrier someplace, it would instantly be news all over the world, so no way to suprise anyone. On the bright side, it might help the economy if everyone was afraid to vacation out of the country. Of course, you Paul people think everyone would love us, and kidnappers would no longer grab people to extort money. Say hi to the Wizard for me.

    • frustrated American

Unsupported name calling! Are you 5 yrs old? Facts, man, facts! Too many Ron Paul supporters are like this and only hurt their own candidate with the inane cant. Make him look like a senile old fool entering his second childhood because they haven’t grown out of their first one.

  • nee43

Newt Gingrich will implode — and when it’s too late to nominate another candidate. While he is a good debater, taking on a news commentator is quite different than the President. While we don’t like Obama and would like to see him torn into pieces, even Newt knows there is still a respect that must be given the position. So, the debates will not be what many hope for. Newt is another narcisstic — it’s all about “me!” That was Clinton’s problem, Obama’s problem. They are masters at getting you to look at what they want — not what you really need to know. Now, that Newt has the SC win, he has become obnoxious to his opponents. He’s already out of control. He’s been told to stop the attacks within the party and concentrate on Obama. So, when he continues this behavior and lectures the American people because he’s the only really smart person in the US, the voter will tire of him — and the young, vibrant, smiling, narcisstic Obama will overcome!! Narcisstics lack character and integrity. Why, again, because it is all about “me!” Don’t ever let your guard down and think they really care about you. If two wives couldn’t trust him, why should 300 million voters!!! Because he says you should! We did that with Obama, and look where we are now!

    • Nathaniel Davidson

Lots of unproven assertions. But even if you are right, better a pro-life fiscally conservative narcissist than a pro-infanticide Marxist one like Obama. In any case, Narcissus had Obamistic Personality Disorder, didn’t you know?

    • frustrated American

I don’t plan to sleep with him, I don’t know about you. I do plan to live in a free country, however, and that he has a proven record of fighting for. The right wing-nuts don’t like him because he won’t force everyone to live under a Christian extremist theocracy. The libtards and left-wing nuts don’t like him because he espouses patriotism and economic common sense. We will never know for sure what went on in his marriages and his bedroom, and I for one am grateful for that. If you don’t want the fed to stick their noses in your bedroom, why do you think you have the right to stick your nose in his? Double-standard there that makes no sense.

  • MacWell

I agree wholeheartedly with the author.
There really is only one person who has the stones to take on the Axelrod machine, Axelrod has the money, the operatives, and the resources, not to mention the political connections, the media to do an impressive smear campaign. Does anyone here think the media is going to be fair and balanced?
Does anyone think the media is going to be “extra special nice” to poor old Dr. Paul?
I think Dr. Paul would be a great member of the government, just not America’s President.
Dr. Paul would become a valued cabinet member to all Americans, no doubt he would fight for us.
No doubt he is a patriot?
    Just not President.

    • Johnnygard

Paul is a nice man, just not a leader.

  • Anthony

Which of the three stooges would get us back to the republic we should be and the Constitution except for Ron Paul. It amazes me how ignorant the masses are!!!!!

    • frustrated American

Spurious name-calling again! Grow up! Ron Paul has some great idea but is too ineffective. He would get massacred in a debate with Obumbler. He has his own utopian ideas but they are not going to be gentleman or nice to the old guy. The world will not play nice if you show them you are harmless. He is a rabbit in a tiger cage.

  • http://yahoo Tom Gill

Roe v Wade is unconstitutional. The pre-amble to the Constitution reads…The right to life….

    • Johnnygard

Tom, And I’ve never even heard anyone TRY to argue against that fact. They also can’t point to anything in the constitution that would justify abortion.

Bob let’s ALL Pray to God we have One Honest Judge left tomorrow and stops barry in his tracks for running for President in Georgia,so the other states will fall in line and do the same. And Maybe we can get him arrested for High Treason. And peelois for getting him in,in the first place along with all his Chicago thugs, and cohorts !!! Dr.Ron Paul 2012 !!!

  • Joyceann

Newt is not a narcissist – nor will he implode. He knows how important it is for our election this year to remove Obama. Right now, the left and GOP right are not getting their way shoving Romney down our throats and they are doing and paying for a stratigic smear campaign like that have done to other candidates we like. It requires correcting the facts, and minding the media and not letting them get away with it. Listen to Newt when he’s talking, just in general conversation his memory is phenominal as Obama better be. Obama has no idea how Congress works, and Newt does, both how it has worked in the past, and how it should work. Newt loves America and Obama does not. My priority is O’s gotta GO and as I see it, Newt is the only one better at the talk than Obama is – if we get behind one candidate we have a chance of winning.

I like Newt I think he can do the job and do it good. Wake up people

    A. B. O. Anyone But Obama. I see and hear this all the time. In the editorials, television, radio, co-workers and so far two bumper stickers. I need one that says, communists and socialists can leave the country anytime they want. Just don’t come back.

  • Kim King

I continue to be both amazed and appalled that any person let alone Christians would ever support Newt Gingrich. If you want to talk about previous records, then what in Newt’s would ever make you think conservative or honest. He has proven himself a liar and a cheat, not only in his personal life. I mean really, Newt Gingrich? He is the only candidate that you should not vote for. He is a disgrace and people should open their eyes to this egotistical fraud.

  • Mocha 10

I saw a story yesterday that forced you to think. A young mother towing a 9 month old tells her doctor she is pregnant & wants an abortion. She can not support 2 children so close in age. The doctor told her, why don’t we k!ll the one in your arms so you will have 9 months to prepare for the next one? This is not the American way!

    Problems in Education
    1. Public education indoctrinates our children into believing Socialism is a viable system.
    A. How did this happen?
    a. Socialists have taken over the teaching colleges that train the teachers.
    b. Socialists are in control of the teachers unions that promote Socialism.
    c. Socialists control most text book choices and promote or demand Socialism be portrayed as beneficial in textbooks.
    d. Socialists have degraded traditional subjects in lieu of the promotion of social justice, moral relativism, secularism and the minimizing of family values and personal responsibility.
    2. How do we correct the problem?
    A. Identify the problem and make the general public aware the problem exists.
    B. Eliminate or drastically reduce the influence of Socialist teachers in public education.
    1. By demanding and enforcing the “Fairness Doctrine” in the teaching colleges and all public education.
    a. Equal time and influence must be required for conservative ideologies that counteract Socialist ideology.
    b. Give teachers an equal opportunity to form Conservative teacher groups and ensure they have equal opportunity to state and promote their goals.
    c. Any group that designs or approves text books must equally include people of Conservative ideals
    d. Demand that instruction in traditional fields such as math, the sciences, English, spelling and history are taught without ideological bias of any kind.
    e. Allow parents to have school vouchers to send their children to schools of their choice or home school their children without interference.
Every step of the solutions presented above will be fought tooth and nail by the Socialists. The reason they will fight so hard is that their ideology would be exposed for what it is. Socialism cannot survive when opposing ideas are allowed to also be presented. The proponents of Socialism are deathly afraid to allow any opposing ideology to be presented for that very reason.
If you don’t believe me and you are a parent whose child attends public school, here is a simple test you can perform.
If you and your child are a Christians, have your child take his/her bible to school to read in plain sight at recess or lunch break. Only do this if you are very courageous and willing to fight for that right with all your will.
If you don’t want, or can’t stand the heat that test might generate try this. Go to the next school board meeting in your school district and tell the board that you want a “Fairness Doctrine” as explained above adopted in your school district. If any school board member resists, you should do all you can to get them removed from the board.
I used education as an example of how to identify and solve a problem. The same type of approach can be applied to any problem in life or a society; identify the problem, break it down into its components, face the reality that the problem presents, identify solutions and then implement those solutions.
