Most guys know that you’re supposed to hold a door for a woman.

Most guys also know that when you do hold the door, some liberal women give you “the look.”

“The look” is that furrowing of the brow, that particular annoyed set of the mouth that ladies get when they’re thinking about causing bodily harm to a man.

“The look” makes men want to cross their knees in self-defense.

Rick Santorum got “the look” from liberal women last week when he expressed skepticism about a Pentagon plan to put more women closer to the front lines in combat situations.

Santorum, who seems to be a chivalrous kind of guy, tried to explain that male soldiers, who are also often chivalrous kind of guys, might be tempted to protect any women in their unit to the possible detriment of their mission.

To men who like women, this statement made perfect sense. To women who like men, that’s exactly the sort of behavior to be encouraged, albeit probably not in combat situations when most women would prefer their men concentrate on dodging bullets.

“I do have concerns about women in front-line combat,” Santorum said. “I think that could be a very compromising situation, where people naturally may do things that may not be in the interest of the mission, because of other types of emotions that are involved.”

Unfortunately, Santorum made the mistake of using the word “emotions” during all of this, and the ears of liberal women instantly perked up because they thought Santorum was saying that women are too emotional for combat.

Then they proceeded to get all emotional on Santorum, calling him all manner of names and whining that Santorum thinks women can’t hack combat.

Which is funny because many liberals typically go into the military to get Uncle Sam to pay their college tuition. The last place most of them want to be is near the front lines of combat.

Still, Santorum needn’t worry so much about American women going into combat.

American women are tough.

Santorum might consider the story of “Molly Pitcher,” who according to legend jumped in to take her husband’s place behind a cannon when he fell in combat at Monmouth, New Jersey, during the Revolutionary War. Her actions allegedly inspired her husband’s unit to fight back the British troops and earned her the respect of some general named George Washington.

Then there’s the case of Deborah Samson, another Revolution-era lady, who cut her hair, bound her bosom and joined the Continental Army using her brother’s name. She was wounded in combat, but the doctor who treated her so admired her actions that he kept her secret and allowed her to recuperate at his own estate. She retired at the end of the war with an honorable discharge and a pension.

My own mother, for another instance, was a nurse and once knocked out a bad guy by hitting him in the head with her shoe.

See? Tough.

As long as the standards aren’t dumbed down for women, I say give ‘er a big honkin’ cannon and may God have mercy on our enemies’ souls.

As a Veteran with over 20 years of service I have seen some very heart wrenching times while in a combat zone, I tell you the truth bullets have no conscience they kill all it gives no respect to age or race or sex, when you have seen people, friends, innocents killed or maimed in front of you the glory of war fades very fast and all you care about is surival at all costs. When the body bags of young dead women start coming home things will change.

as a mother of six daughters I tried to teach them to get out their & do what ever they wanted to try to go for it the men will just have to deal with it

    • steve

Excellent. I just hope you also taught them the same thing I taught my daughters. If you want to play with the boys then you most welcomed. BUT if you loose playing with the boys DO NOT cry woman. You loose a lot of credibility. Play with the boys, win like the boys, but also have the maturity to loose like the boys. In the end you will win far more for doing that.

I have read all the comments on Santorum’s stance on women in combat, and all have merit–which is unusual for a comment board!
Trouble is, women HAVE been on the front lines more times than not throughout history, and, sometimes had to fight just as hard as the men! I’m sure they didn’t want to be there, but there it was–either fight or just die–terrific choice, I would say!
I have heard stories of “Warrior Women” in the ranks of our Indian Americans during the 1800s and earlier–from what I have read, those ladies were tough, and woe be to the man who fell into her hands! The Mountain Men and soldiers didn’t want to be turned over to the women when they were captured by Indians because the ladies had some evil ideas for torture!
All in all, let’s train our female soldiers to be able to handle weapons–they don’t need to handle the big stuff! But, look at the Air Force lady who was a sniper in Afganistan–now, what she did was real shooting, and all other military women should be taught, too! For that matter, ALL women and girls should learn to shoot, to handle weapons, AND to be able to defend themselves and their families if the need arises!
Sadly, this country is headed for an all-out war on OUR soil, and we should have every man, woman and child in this nation be able to defend themselves and the nation!
If you men don’t like the fact that women should be able to defend the homestead, you can all just kiss my grits!
My granddaughters can outshoot their soldier husbands, and one can even use a sword, bowie knife or dagger! Same goes for my great-granddaughters, too!

AND don’t forget Queen Boettica & the early Celts. They (men & women) would paint themselves up & go to battle (in the nude) against an opposing tribe and/or Romans.

            LOL

‘Scuze me, but what the hell does Santorum’s position on women in combat have to do with his ability to be president ?

There are four (4) extremely good things about Rick Santorum.
    1. He ain’t Noot
    2. He ain’t Mitzi
    3. He ain’t Ron Paul
    and best of all
    4. He ain’t Obama.
    Nuff sed !

  • Daniel

Hey…I know…let’s put LIBERAL WOMEN on the front lines only!!!!

  • Bill

Someone sit some women down and explain to them what “crotch-rot” and “dingle-berries” are.

    • LeeF

William, would you like that explanation before or after we women cure those little problems for you?
      You might like singing soprano.

  • LeeF

Notice I got a couple of minuses from obvious male readers!
    What’s the matter, boys?
Just because women can outdo you in just about everything, INCLUDING shooting, you think you can hide behind your “maleness?”
    Take another look.
There are more widows than widowers in this nation, and the ladies are outliving you men all the way!
We’re tougher than you–we can have a baby, then get up and do housework–even with a cold–you go to bed and whine! While there are a few men who do raise their children alone, far more don’t, and ask their moms for help or get married again!
    Nope!
We women can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and keep our men very happy–all the while doing housework, volunteer work, raising children, taking care of household finances, being chauffeurs for the various sports their kids are involved in, and doing all sorts of other tasks a man would demand extra pay for, and—WE do it for FREE!
My husbands died when the going got tough–but, I’m trucking along, and quite happy without a man in my life!

    • Are you Serious

Personally I believe you’re a liar. Now, pound sand!!!

    • El Lobo Solo

Then don’t get married, don’t have kids & go live your life in a Monestary.
      Life is about choices.

      • Katie

She is not saying she regrets marriage or children. She is saying that she can do everything that men can do and just because she is a woman, doesn’t mean she should be considered differently for tasks, such as serving our country.

As a woman, I know that women do have a role, but NOT on the front lines. We are made different…regardless of what people want to believe or pretend!

  • Ann C

I recall that, even as teenagers, if a boy said a swear word, at least one of the other boys would reprimand him, and the boy who swore would apologize. I also recall how uplifted it made me when my date would open doors for me.
The feminists have a very twisted notion about equality. They believe women have to give up their feminine traits in order to be equal. So what happened? Women began wearing masculine-style attire, began out-cursing the men, got heavy into smoking, became aggressive in the “come hither” rather than the man maintaining his role in that area.

There is more than enough for women to do in wartime, and they should not be part of the fighting forces. How many times have we read in the news about both parents off to war in Iraq or Afghanistan and the children are left with relatives, not to see either parent for months on end. Not right. Not good. Not productive.
