Why We Must Stand

jobs

Among the unemployment statistics released by the government for June is this depressing fact: The country added only 80,000 jobs for the month, but it also added 85,000 people to the rolls of the disabled.

As the hopelessness in the jobs market grows, and unemployment insurance runs out, more Americans are surrendering, turning to the disability fund as the only way to bring money into their families. Only about 1 percent of people who get on disability ever get off of it.

The situation will only get worse as Obamacare, now the law of the land, becomes fully enacted after the election.

Even if we get to the elections — Obama’s growing love for monarchical rule throws that into question — and even if we replace our budding tyrant in time to stop the worst of the health care law, there is still a monumental task ahead to turn this country around.

For it’s not just policy, law or cast of characters that needs to be changed.

American hearts and minds polluted by the filth of every strain of liberalism, secularism and Marxism must be cleansed and turned back toward God and our founding principles of individual liberty and responsibility, and of limited government.

But how to do it when the very nature of our country today is so hotly denied?

Not only is the Constitution ignored, shredded and debased, but even the very concept that rights come from God, not government, is scoffed at.

God gives rights to people. The people grant authority to government. The government protects the people’s rights. That is the proper order of things.

But today, we’ve inverted — or reverted — our thinking into a variant of the divine right of kings, in which a “noble” class (the elected) confers rights upon us plebeians.

Like the nobility of old, our ruling class took its position by force — not through arms, perhaps, but through long abuse of power nonetheless.

We have exhalted the ignoble, and as with monarchies throughout history, it is the subservient classes who suffer. Rights granted by the mercurial few can be taken away just as swiftly, and the current crop of upstart barons has been dismantling our rights piece by piece.

If the economy falters, the burden is on you and me, not them. The nobility merely raises taxes. It does not care if your family starves. If prices soar or there are bread shortages, what difference? “Let them eat cake” will be the reply.

And now they even supplant God. For years, the courts have upheld the creeping infiltration of an atheistic state religion, demanding removal of biblical displays or events from the public square under the pretense of “offense.” Though a true atheist would not care if the Christians display their “ignorance,” for it means nothing to him, the state atheists are in high dudgeon for their religion is not being given pride of place.

A true atheist has no holy days, but the state atheist must infiltrate or overthrow the holy days of others in the public eye, for pride demands that the infidels must be converted to acknowledge the superiority of his beliefs, his intellect and himself.

The atheists are aided by the moral and political radicals: socialists, communists, illegal immigrants, gay marriage proponents, feminist extremists, pro-abortionists, marxists and nazis.

We have at last reached the point where the government openly challenges the Catholic Church, commanding it to relinquish its God-derived teachings about the sanctity of procreation and life or else abandon involvement in the community altogether. The Church’s response, the recent Fortnight for Freedom, was sparsely marked and was actively ignored by most of the media except as an opportunity to criticize the church for not standing on liberal principles.

The Church got itself into this fix in large part, promoting for years liberal socialistic views on many issues, tolerating creeping progressivism in its pews and behind the altar, permitting active gays to serve as clergy, and allowing its membership to support Barack Obama’s election to the Oval Office when the man’s true, amoral nature was so evident from the beginning.

But elements of its leadership have begun to awaken, and if the Church loses its fight against the incipient tyranny of the Obama Administration, other denominations will soon topple like dominoes.

The American nobiles use the yet-translucent tool of state atheism to pry apart and dismantle our God-given rights. The mainstream media lickspittles are only too happy to cover up for their patrons, encourage the spread of all manner of immorality, and help further the ongoing ignorance of the American voters.

In a sermon in 1776, the Rev. John Witherspoon, signer of the Declaration of Independence, told his flock, “What follows from this? That he is the best friend to American liberty, who is most sincere and active in promoting true and undefiled religion, and who sets himself with the greatest firmness to bear down profanity and immorality of every kind. Whoever is an avowed enemy of God, I scruple not to call him an enemy of his country.”

But those of us who see what the country is heading toward and who would steer it back toward what it should be, are at every turn blocked, diverted, stalled, hobbled and laughed at.

Government and the ignorant liberal hordes want us to lie down and surrender. You can’t stop progress, they say. And if you try, we’ll take everything from you.

In the film “A Knight’s Tale,” the character Chaucer finds himself in a position of having lost everything, including the clothes off his back, through his own moral weakness. When we first meet him, he is naked, but he is walking along the road nonetheless. When asked what he is doing, he replies that he is trudging. “You know, trudging? To trudge: the slow, weary, depressing yet determined walk of a man who has nothing left in life except the impulse to simply soldier on.”

We Americans have a lot of trudging ahead of us.

When “progress” is nothing more than a new label pasted over the same old beast our ancestors fought to be free of, we owe it to ourselves, our heritage and the world to not surrender.

We cannot afford to lie down and give up.

We have slumbered for too long. We must rouse ourselves.

We must stand.
