The House side of the U.S. Capitol is closed due to an industrial spill, according to U.S. Capitol Police
Police sent an alert out to staffers at 7 a.m. saying that the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) is testing the scene.
The architect said there was a potential leak of asbestos during ongoing work on the House side of the Capitol.
“Samples have been collected to determine whether there was potential exposure,” AOC spokeswoman Laura Condeluci said in a statement.
The Capitol Police Hazardous Materials Response Team is also on the scene.
