The city’s school leaders have decided that kindergarten is not too young to learn about sex.
Currently, the curriculum begins for students in the fifth grade, and the school system said each level of instruction would be age appropriate.
Kindergartners through third graders would learn about their anatomy, all living things that reproduce and appropriate and inappropriate touching.
Fourth graders would focus on puberty and HIV/AIDS. After fifth grade, teachers lead discussions about human reproduction, contraception and abstinence.
Parents who are uncomfortable with the new policy would be able opt out.
