Elon Musk has built a corporate empire on almost $5 billion of taxpayer money

A spokesman for Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Dex Torricke-Barton, took to Facebook via Twitter, posting a statement to President-Elect Donald Trump, stating, “we will tear down your wall. I promise,” just one day after the historic election of Trump as president. Barton is the Head of Communications for SpaceX, the heavily government subsidized space launch company created by well connected liberal crony capitalist businessman Musk. The statement from the communications chief for SpaceX clearly indicates his boss, and the company he works for, is strongly opposed to the agenda of the incoming president-elect.

When interviewed last week on CNBC, Musk came out against Trump, saying he “is not the right guy” for the presidency, and adding that Trump “doesn’t seem to have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States.” Yet Musk has donated to Hillary Clinton, who has been under FBI investigation for alleged improper handling of classified and top secret email communications while she was Secretary of State.

The three heavily subsidized companies Musk has founded, include SpaceX, the luxury electric car maker Tesla, and the solar panel company SolarCity that soon could be merged into Tesla pending shareholder approval. The three companies have been build with more than $4.9 billion in government subsidies. Musk himself is very well-connected politically, having donated numerous times to the campaigns of President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The Center for Responsive Politics reports that Musk has donated $7300 to Hillary Clinton since 2008. Additionally, Bloomberg news reported in 2015 the headline “Elon Musk Helps California Rank No. 1 for Hillary Clinton Fundraising. Musk, along with actor Leonardo DiCaprio and producer Steven Spielberg, helped raise money in California for Clinton in 2015.

He has also strongly supported Barack Obama, giving his presidential campaigns a total of $7300 in three separate contributions given in 2007 and 2011, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. In addition to donating, Musk is also a frequent guest at the White House. Records show he visited there twelve times between the years 2010 to 2015.

Musk also joined about a dozen big names from the tech industry, Business Insider reported, to have dinner with President Barack Obama “at Michelin-Starred Restaurant” in Presidio Heights. Musk also attended a $35,800 per attendee fundraiser for President Obama in 2011.

Not only has Musk leveraged his connections to the political establishment to gain almost $5 billion in taxpayer largess for this three companies, what he wants to do next will make you wonder about his sanity, or that of his cronies that will likely buy his next bill of goods. Musk wants taxpayers to invest about $10 billion, according to Vanity Fair, in a scheme to colonize Mars by the 2020. SpaceX can’t reliably, without blowing up the rockets and their payload, launch satellites into the earth’s atmosphere, how can it expect to any time soon complete manned space launches without having passengers die on their space flights? SpaceX, and its dreams, are a pie in the sky fantasy of Musk, and the taxpayers have almost entirely funded this lunacy.

President-Elect Trump, and the leadership of Congress, should be away of how Musk has been selling us a bill of goods and that its time to start saying no to any more taxpayer-funded corporate welfare for his companies.
