Last year, an 82-year-old nun was in the news for having broken into the U.S. government’s key bomb-grade uranium storage facility. Recently, however, according to a federal audit, security was compromised at another nuclear weapons lab when thousands of foreign nationals from communist and Middle Eastern countries were granted “unaccompanied access.”
According to Judicial Watch, “Both facilities—Y-2 National Security Complex and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)—store dangerous materials, are run by the U.S. government and are located in Oak Ridge Tennessee. Security became a huge issue last August when the Catholic nun, a renowned antinuclear activist, and two other seniors somehow managed to evade what the government calls the ‘most stringent security in the world’ to penetrate the Y-2 plant, which the feds claim is the ‘Fort Knox of Uranium.’”
ORNL is an extensive 58-square-mile facility in which various scientific and energy research is conducted. It also houses uranium and other nuclear materials. The facility employs thousands of people and is located precariously close to a major city–Knoxville.
Annually, under a special government program, the lab hosts thousands of foreign nationals who come to research, collaborate and access scientific information. The nationals hail from an assortment of countries, including China, Pakistan and Egypt. A process of vetting is supposed to occur through “counterintelligence consultations.” And, a Foreign Access Central Tracking System is supposed to monitor them while within the nuclear weapons facility. To prevent any security breaches, it is against the rules for foreigners to be left alone, at any time,
But, the rules were apparently not followed, according to an internal investigation conducted by the Department of Energy Inspector General. The report found that while the foreign exchange program can be beneficial, it “may also create certain security risks.”
Judicial Watch reports:
“This is especially true because the program was ‘revised to streamline requirements in order to “expedite foreign nationals’ access’ to the laboratories, the IG writes in its report.
Once in the facility, ‘agreements and individual security plans’ were not followed because hosts didn’t always ‘maintain accountability of foreign nationals as required,’ the report says. There is ‘no assurance that hosts appropriately monitored foreign nationals’ activities as required.’ This is downright insane! After 9/11 all of the nation’s nuclear weapons sites were ordered to increase security to defend against the possibility of a terrorist attack.”
In addition to that, a few months ago at another federally-owned nuclear lab in New Mexico, two employees pleaded guilty to criminal charges for passing classified weapons data to a foreign government that is hostile to the U.S. This particular contrivance occurred at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a facility with a long and deplorable history of serious security breaches dating back to the late 1990s.
Then too, in 1999 a Chinese scientist by the name of Wen Ho Lee confiscated nuclear secrets from the facility, but was not prosecuted by the Clinton Justice Department because then Attorney General Janet Reno claimed the accusations were racist. Judicial Watch represented the whistleblower, Notra Trulock, whose actions prompted the investigation. Trulok was the Energy Department’s intelligence operations chief at the time and the accusations of racism are believed to have simply been an attempt to conceal Lee’s repeated security violations.
The issue with foreign nationals extends to the military. Paul David Gaubatz, a U.S. State Department-trained Arabic linguist and former U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations special agent co-authored a book with investigative journalist and Hoover Institute fellow Paul Sperry, which focuses on this issue–Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America. Gaubatz was the first federal agent to serve in Iraq.
Gaubatz explains that, “In the U.S. our military bases have programs to bring citizens/scientists from Islamic based countries to the U.S. to train them on many of our weapons systems and some of our most highly guarded technology systems. The U.S. military also bring foreign military personnel from Islamic controlled countries to train on our aircraft, to include how to fly the various U.S. military aircraft. Many of these foreigners disappear into the underground ‘Islamic Sleeper Cells’ throughout America. This must stop. Kirkland AFB, NM, Wright Patterson AFB, OH. and Lackland AFB, TX. are three of the top offenders.” He also points out that, “Intelligence that would not be provided to the American public is freely provided to foreign nationals from Islamic based countries that support terrorism against us.”
“In addition thousands of foreigners from Islamic based countries are trained at our military bases about aircraft systems and how to fly them. Lackland AFB, Texas is one of our prime offenders in this category. When I was a Special Agent for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations we continuously had open cases on foreign citizens who suddenly left our installations and disappeared into unknown areas of America. I have written previously about ‘sleeper cells’. These are some of the people who go underground into sleeper cells. They are trained military personnel who have a working knowledge of English and have been trained on our weapons systems. Immediately after the attack on 9-11, other Agents and myself were given orders to attempt to track these ‘lost’ foreigners down. It was an impossible hunt. There was a major concern some of the 9-11 Islamic hijackers had even trained in our military flight schools.
Our intelligence officers and law enforcement could help prevent another attack if they tracked down the missing military foreign nationals who have disappeared from our bases. The U.S. military does not like to report to the public or our political leaders the disappearances of foreign nationals under their control. I encourage readers to contact the ‘Foreign National Office’ (specifically the Air Force Research Laboratory/(AFRL/DE) and ask how many foreign scientists are working alongside our most prized U.S. scientists. Then contact the Foreign National Representative that handles the foreign military students (from Islamic countries) and ask them how many foreign students are missing from their installations. Again I stress these are where the Islamic sleeper cells generate from, concludes Gaubatz.”
Through military naturalization it is possible for many foreigners to became US citizens. In 2011, 8,373 foreign-born military personal naturalized as US citizens. This can take place on US soil, overseas or aboard Navy ships. In 2010, 9,122 individuals were naturalized which is the largest number of military personnel naturalized in any single year since 1972.
Between September 2001 and September 2011, 74, 977 foreign-born military personnel naturalized on US soil, became citizens overseas or aboard Navy ships. Between 2005 and 2011, the highest number of foreign-born service members naturalized overseas were naturalized in Iraq (3,410) and 991 were naturalized in Afghanistan during the same period.
