Ever since Al Gore’s fanciful movie about alleged global warming, socialists (include U.S. Democrat party) have been hell-bent on destroying the electricity system that helped power the now-ending era of U.S. greatness. Aside from the fact that the books were “cooked” by global warming “scientists”, nature itself is revealing the lie. There has been no significant warming of the planet in the last 15 years or more and both polar ice caps (which were supposed to melt according to the global warmists) are now at record expanse. You can see a good report on the books-cooking here.

To keep up with where all this is headed rapidly, you need to look at a new report published by Finadvice, a Switzerland-based advisory firm, available here. The report outlines in thorough, well-researched detail what has happened in Germany since global warming enthusiasts drove that country to huge subsidies for so-called renewable energy sources. In brief, the report says renewable subsidies have cost Germany–about the size of Montana with a fraction of the U.S. economy–more than $412 billion, with a potential of going to $884 billion by 2022. German politicians throw around billions like U.S. ones do trillions.

Electricity prices for consumers in Germany have more than doubled, from 18 cents per kilowatt hour in 2000 to more than 38 cents per kWh in 2013. For comparison, the average price of electricity in the U.S. is 13 cents per kWH, although there already have been significant increases in some of the more leftist states, such as California. As few as five years ago, that average was below 10 cents. Though semi-retired now, I worked in the writing/technical side of the utility industry for more than 20 years.

“Generous subsidies for renewables are unsustainable,” say the Swiss researchers. At the same time, leftist (read socialist) politicians in this country are beating the drum for renewable subsidies and Obama’s EPA is forcing the closing of many coal-fired plants across the country.

According to a press release about the Swiss report, “German policymakers are redesigning the country’s energy policies in an effort to achieve long-term, sustainable deployment of renewable energy sources and prevent further market distortions. Policymakers in the United States should take Germany’s experience into account when crafting renewable energy policies and should recognize the consequences of rapid, large-scale integration of renewables into the power system without proper preparation.” No kidding!

Ever since Al Gore’s fanciful, fictional movie, the U.S. has been following in Germany’s footsteps, only not moving even faster than our German cousins, because some truly conservative Republicans (there aren’t a lot of them left) have been able to do some foot-dragging. Of course, Obama, never one to pay much attention to the rule of law, just issues executive orders to the EPA enabling them to march ahead in the global warming band.

Some friends in the energy industry whom I used to work with sent me the link to the Swiss story, in case I missed it. It’s worth reading if you want to see what the future of this country looks like and it will get much worse even than that–soon.
