While the Hollywood Left has long dominated the entertainment industry, after Donald Trump’s win they are getting more hostile.

What if you’re an actor, writer, of director who does not agree with the Hollywood Left? If you want to work you had better pretend to be a progressive.

According to the L.A. Times,

For the vast majority of conservatives who work in entertainment, going to set or the office each day has become a game of avoidance and secrecy. The political closet is now a necessity for many in an industry that is among the most liberal in the country.

Since the presidential election, some conservatives feel that their political beliefs are more of a career liability than ever — even for those traditional Republicans disenchanted by President Trump.

“I feel absolutely it has harmed me professionally,” said Andrew Klavan, the L.A.-based screenwriter and novelist, and a “reluctant” Trump supporter. His credits include the 1990 Michael Caine dark comedy “A Shock to the System” and the novel “True Crime,” which was made into a movie directed by Clint Eastwood.

Klavan said that producers have “called my agent asking, ‘Why would you represent this guy?’ Anything that lowers your odds is going to hurt.”

This recently energized intolerance on the part of the Hollywood Left is driven by fear. They have suffered a big defeat that they didn’t believe was possible. The very name, “progressive,” implies that the future belongs to them. To suffer a setback is a fundamental wound to their confidence and sense of entitlement.

It is telling that Hollywood Conservatives and Libertarians did not have to deal with as much hostility when the White House was under the control of the Democrats. The L.A. Times interviewed executive director Jeremy Boreing, a member of the conservative Hollywood group, Friends of Abe [FOA]:

He said it was too early to tell how Trump will affect the organization, but “if Hollywood continues to overreact to Trump and toxify people’s professional lives, FOA will grow. We got started under [George W.] Bush, not under Obama. Hollywood was a more pleasant place for conservatives during Obama’s tenure because Hollywood was in a good mood.”

Notably, the FOA keeps its membership roster secret to try to avoid reprisals.

The Hollywood Left is being irrational and stupid to act this way. They have been informed by the election that they don’t have as large a majority as they liked to think they had. Yes, they may have won the popular vote but that only means that they have a lock on California and New York. They don’t have a majority of voters in a majority of states. Otherwise, they would have won the election by the electoral college.

What you’re supposed to do when you want to persuade people to vote your way is win them over. Overt hostility and attempts to punish people are only going to make you look petty and mean. What Boreing said applies to the whole country: “If Hollywood continues to overreact to Trump and toxify people’s professional lives, FOA will grow.” The overreaction on the part of the Hollywood Left only makes it more likely that Donald Trump will be a two-term President.
