Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., looking to jump-start his campaign for the GOP presidential nomination, questioned Sunday whether Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and Texas Gov. Rick Perry could win the 2012 general election.
Mr. Huntsman said Mr. Perry’s skeptical comments last week about global warming raise serious questions about the governor’s electability.
“The minute the Republican Party becomes the anti-science party … we find ourselves in a losing position,” Mr. Huntsman said in an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”
“I think when you find yourself at the extreme end of the Republican Party, you make yourself unelectable,” he said.
He also slammed the Texas governor for his “near-treason” remarks about Ben S. Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve.
