Obama on Friday said he would take “several days” to review options, saying those actions are contingent upon Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki reaching out to other sectarian factions.
Speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” the House Intelligence Committee chairman rejected the notion that, without a reconciliation, the U.S. would be taking a side in a civil war.
“This whole notion of Sunni vs. Shia is wrong,” he said.
“We can’t wait days or weeks or months to scratch our head and some political reconciliation process,” he added.
