“The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed a standard citizenry, to put down dissent and originality”- Henry Louis Mencken
Mencken was then, and is now, correct in his assessment of public education. Even though the above statement was penned well over a half a century ago, it is prophetic and sees its fulfillment in recent decades. His words exactly describe the current state and agenda of the American educational system.
My short answer to the question is “yes” it is time to remove our children from the public schools. My personal belief is that when we send our children to government schools it is like sacrificing them to a false god. They will be indoctrinated into the religion of the state that, today, is totally alien and hostile to Christianity. In fact, it is hostile to America.
I know. I know. “Your” school is different. You agree with me, but it doesn’t apply to your child and his or her school. Ok, I got it. The problem is that almost everyone believes this and this is part of the problem. I’ll ask a question. Do you really know what your children are being taught? What about those computer modules that you can’t see? What’s in those?
The longer the state has access to our children the higher the chances are that our authority as parents will be undermined and the child’s faith destroyed. It’s worrisome that the President now is calling for Universal pre-K. Don’t worry though; it won’t raise the deficit one dime. Now, if you really believe this then you should visit this site immediately: . But, I digress.
Next, we must address the issue of quality. What kind of educational product do our schools turn out? High school students today have fallen far behind their global counterparts. And, as usual, the government’s response to the problem is that they need more money. Why do we continue to fall for this worn out line? Do you know how much we spend per student, per year in this country? On average, it is about $11,000. In some places like New York and Washington D.C., the figure tops $18,000.
With all the generous investment in our schools how do our students stack up internationally? Currently, among developed countries we are 17th in the world lagging behind Finland, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and New Zealand to name a few. These facts are documented in a report released by the education firm Pearson.
In 2010, there was a study called, Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The study revealed that American 15 year olds ranked 14th in reading, 17th in science and a dismal 25th in mathematics. This ranking is within the limited boundaries of the 34 developed democracies that are members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. How will our students be able to compete in a global society with rankings like these?
In June of 1967 I graduated from Dykes High School in Atlanta, Georgia. I received a great education. Truly, I did. But, about halfway through my high school career, in 1962-1963, they took Bible reading and prayer out of the public schools.
They also introduced the study of evolution during my high school career. These actions hastened the decline in the quality and morality of public education. Early education in our country was based on biblical principles and the hearty acknowledgment of God. When the courts ruled prayer and Bible readings unlawful, the godly foundation of public education was destroyed. How’s that working out for us?
The quality of American public education since that time has been in a constant downward trend. More importantly, the purpose of public education has morphed into something totally different, something that actually threatens our way of life and our national identity. In our schools, God has been replaced with the state. Hegel’s thought is implanted in our children: The state is as God walking on the earth.
Our children are trained to be global citizens, to hate capitalism, love socialism, and to worship Mother Earth. This is what Agenda 21 is all about. Our children are brainwashed into thinking that the state can be trusted to meet all their needs.
Another aspect worth noting is that the children currently in public schools will soon be voters. They will, for the most part, be uninformed voters. Dr. Benjamin Carson who appeared with Sean Hannity last week commented about the peril of a nation of uniformed voters. If you doubt me, do as I do regularly. Ask some young voters why they voted for who they did. The answers will astound you. They are truly frightening.
There are new educational programs such as CSCOPE and Common Core coming online that will further attempt to demonize capitalism, America, even individual freedom. CSCOPE particularly pushes Agenda 21, socialism, is antichristian, and pro Islam. It is already in place in a large percentage of Texas schools and in other states. The American school system has been successful to help bring our culture to where it is today, a people dependent rather than independent. We are a people who choose, consciously or unconsciously, to be slaves rather than free citizens. The consequences of our choices are now playing out quickly and visibly in our country. Our freedoms are under intense attack right now.
Secretary of Education T.H. Bell during the Reagan administration appointed a commission that created a report called a “Nation at Risk.” It concerned the American system of education. Keep in mind that this was released over twenty-five years ago. The report stated:
“…the educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a Nation and a people.” It went on to say, “If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war.”.
The seeds of destruction of the public school system may have occurred as far back as 1805 when Christian leadership was removed from Harvard University and replaced with Unitarians. This belief is fully expounded in Samuel Blumenfeld’s book, NEA: The Trojan Horse. I read this book when it was released in 1984 and it is compelling.
In an article, Enemies in Academe, Blumenfeld says:
“Secularization of the American university began with the takeover of Harvard by the Unitarians in 1805.” Harvard had been founded in 1636 by Puritan Calvinists who recognized the necessity for training up a clergy if the new Bible commonwealth was to flourish in the wilderness. Since 1620 some 17,000 Puritans had migrated to New England, and they wanted ministers who were able to expound the Scriptures from the original Hebrew and Greek, as well as be familiar with what the church fathers, scholastic philosophers, and reformists had written in Greek and Latin. Contrary to popular belief public education is religiously based. Education’s roots have to be firmly planted in some worldview, some philosophy. There is no neutrality. Our children are being fed a worldview, but one that is alien to all that made America great.
When the state educates our children, it will always catechize them in the religion of the state whatever it happens to be at the time. Prior to 1962-63 this was not a big problem in America because the Gospel could be freely shared, even officially, as it was in my day. We started each day with Scripture and prayer led by our principal. Today, should this be attempted a principal or teacher would be reprimanded, suspended, or maybe fired.
There are many reasons to remove our children from under the government school’s influence. The first thing we should evaluate, as we would with any other thing, is the quality of the product. Do our children graduate with the skills they need to succeed? Do they graduate with a capitalist or a socialist worldview? Do they leave their school a patriotic American or a world citizen?
I think the morality factor is incredibly important too. The schools can’t give a good reason why something is right or wrong. What can they appeal to? They are required to keep God out of the conversation. I say again, as I have for decades, that if you remove God from the equation, you will suffer bad results, you will arrive at the wrong conclusions.
So, what do we see happening? Pregnant twelve and thirteen year olds are not uncommon. Up to 25% of high school graduates are infected with an STD. Drugs are commonplace in our schools, even among grammar school kids. We see so many kids severely lacking a work ethic. Why should they work anyway? Uncle Sam will pay them almost forever not to work. They can, in some cases, make more by not working.
So, is it time to get our children out of the public school system? I plead with parents, save your children and help save the future of America. Get your children out of public schools. Do whatever you have to do.
