Faced with real facts that show they have been neglecting to report news, the media pretends nothing is wrong.

The media pretends it matters because it has to do so. Otherwise, it would have to admit it serves an ideological minority and their dependents to provide them with a rationale for what they do. The Susan Rice spying story has forced them to double down on the pretense that they have the national respect to determine what is news. CNN gave us the purest example of this. According to Grabien News,

While interviewing a Democratic congressman, CNN’s Chris Cuomo claimed it was “demonstrably untrue” Rice sought surveillance of the Trump team, even as that’s exactly what yesterday’s reports prove.

Over the last 24 hours, the network has also repeatedly called on its chief national security correspondent — who was also a political appointee in the Obama White House — Jim Sciutto, to dismiss the reports as a non-story; Sciutto has even excused Rice claiming ignorance of the unmasking scandal two weeks ago, arguing Rice “wasn’t aware” what unmasking Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) was referring to.

And on Tuesday’s “New Day,” anchor Alisyn Camerota openly pleaded with Sen. John McCain to write-off the news as unimportant.

Last night, Lemon began “CNN Tonight” with an announcement that the Rice report a “fake scandal ginned up by right-wing media and Trump” that he would not be baited into justifying with coverage.

“On this program tonight, we will not insult your intelligence by pretending,” it’s legitimate, he said. “Nor will we aid and abet the people trying to misinform you, the American people, by creating a diversion. Not going to do it.”

The first thing you do to scam people is to make them feel smart. I’m not sure how Don Lemon could be more transparent.

Notice how much projection is going on here. CNN has been working overtime to gin up a Russian conspiracy to create a diversion for the public. The fact that Donald Trump won the election without any mainstream media source even suspecting it proves that they don’t know what is going on in the country at all. Rather than admit that they need to learn, they’ve manufactured this “fake news” that Vladimir Putin hacked the election.

But, at a deeper level, it is looking more and more like the whole Russian conspiracy story was produced by the Obama Administration to develop a national security rationale for the political spying they perpetrated against the Trump Campaign.

This doesn’t just vindicate the claim that he was “wire tapped.” It vindicates his claim during the campaign that the election was “rigged.”

While the Democrats blame Wikileaks (which it asserts is connected to Russia), Susan Rice seems to have used the National Security Agency’s surveillance record to help Clinton. They had the media, the money, and spying capabilities, and they still lost.

Remember, it was not Rice’s job to “unmask” the Americans who were spied on. As the National Review explains,

There would have been no intelligence need for Susan Rice to ask for identities to be unmasked. If there had been a real need to reveal the identities — an intelligence need based on American interests — the unmasking would have been done by the investigating agencies.

The national-security adviser is not an investigator. She is a White House staffer. The president’s staff is a consumer of intelligence, not a generator or collector of it. If Susan Rice was unmasking Americans, it was not to fulfill an intelligence need based on American interests; it was to fulfill a political desire based on Democratic-party interests.

The media is holding no cards but still trying to bluff their way to a win. We can’t let that happen.
