The New York Times and the Associated Press have refused the offer from U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to discuss the media leak investigation – off the record.

Times executive editor Jill Abramson said on Wednesday that it wasn’t appropriate to meet with Mr Holder under those terms given the paper’s extensive coverage of the scandal.

The Associated Press announced an hour after the Times’ decision that the newswire, that was the focus of a 2012 DOJ investigation, would similarly not be sitting down with the Justice Department.

‘We believe the meeting should be on the record and we have said that to the Attorney General’s office.’
