It’s no secret tensions have been running high between the United States and Russia, but President Barack Obama pushed diplomacy aside when speaking about Russian President Vladmir Putin, mocking his body language and slamming his stance on gay and lesbian rights.
President Obama addressed a room full of reporters and members of the press in his first full news conference in months Friday afternoon. The President spoke on reforms to the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs — which don’t exist according to him — but when asked about his relationship with Putin, held nothing back.
“I know the press likes to focus on body language and he’s got that kind of slouch, looking like the bored kid in the back of the classroom,” President Obama said, referring to the media’s hype over the two’s meeting at the G8 Summit earlier this year. In a photo taken at the event, Putin appears sitting low in his chair, which some said demonstrated the leaders’ strained relationship.
