President Barack Obama is making it personal in a new fundraising pitch aimed at the generosity of his supporters

An email sent to one New Yorker read: ‘Here’s something you don’t have in common with 15,049 other supporters of this movement who tell us they live in New York, N.Y.’

It added: ‘Now’s your chance to change that.’

The email then asked for a $3 minimum donation to boost the campaign to 1million contributors. 

The emails, obtained by, come complete with local numbers on how many of the president’s supporters have given to his campaign.

A voter in Illinois received an email saying that 160 people in the area had put up cash for the Obama team, and challenged them to do the same. 

 Brad Blakeman, who served as a senior adviser to President Bush in his 2000 campaign, called President Obama’s plan a ‘scare tactic.’

He told that the approach may be effective on a few voters, but it is more ‘detrimental than it is beneficial.’
