President Obama took some time out from dealing with Congress today to spread some Christmas cheer with local elementary school students.

During a surprise visit to Long Branch Elementary School, Obama read from a certified holiday classic — The Night Before Christmas — and from a potential holiday gift: Of Thee I Sing, his own book for young people about American heroes.

Obama read from chapters about Albert Einstein, Jackie Robinson, and Abraham Lincoln, before launching into Clement Moore’s classic poem about the happenings on the night before Christmas, letting the kids finish some of the lines.

After the reading, Obama visited with another group of children from the fourth and fifth grades.
