The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is an affiliate of the United Nations. That is frightening enough in and of itself. Creepier still, however, is the final word of self-important twaddle that is the title; Europe.
Yes, Europe. The OSCE has 56 states in Europe and Asia represented among their monitors, including Germany, France and the Ukraine. According to Alexander Bolton, in “The Hill” (a Washington blog), the kind folks of the OSCE “will be looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week”. The civil rights groups expressing “concern” to the righteous OSCE are represented by the likes of the ACLU, the NAACP and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, among others. The lone group objecting to this blatant attempt at election hijacking is True the Vote, a Conservative group.
By their own admission, the OSCE informs us that “State law does not generally provide for international observers however, through our contacts at (the) state and county level in certain states, we managed to secure invitations at (the) local level and we have taken up the offer to observe. Where this is not possible, we will respect the state regulation on this matter and will not observe in precincts on Election Day.” Big of them. But who, exactly, invited them in the first place? We are told the invitation was issued at “the local level” but, by whom? Was it a government official? An unemployed dockworker? Who, exactly, has the authority to invite foreign entities to have a monitoring position in American elections? This is the translation of “state law does not generally provide for international observers”. It isn’t “generally” legal for them to be there.
The OSCE makes a big point of claiming impartiality. This is a popular, political phrase these days, designed to say the opposite of what the claimant genuinely intends. Delve a bit deeper and the OSCE adds that they are on the watch for even “subtle” attempts at intimidation”. Hmmm. Impartiality. Why is it, then, that they would be trolling for potential voter suppression committed only by Conservative groups? Where were they when Black Panthers were carrying clubs, spouting threats and racist rhetoric directly outside of polling places in 2008? Impartiality? That’s a very hard sell.
Be prepared for additional meddling in the election. Groups insisting that requests for voter ID equal “disenfranchisement” of minorities are already marshalling their legions. The ACLU, SEIU, The Sierra Club and all of the usual suspects are already whining about “voter intimidation” and are preparing to permeate polling places on Election Day. The AFL-CIO has over 300 lawyers on retainer to contest the questioning of voter registrations. Racially oriented civil rights groups are crawling out of the woodwork and have begun the protest litany. The only good news about all of this is that, at least, these leftist cranks are home-grown.
Tea Party associates of True the Vote believe that they can assemble and deploy a hundred thousand volunteers or better to counter the expected invasion, nationwide. This would be of particular importance in battleground states. Their stated intention is not to “pick winners and losers”, not to influence the outcome…just to make certain that no one else does, either.
Europe and Asia have enough of their own problems to deal with. Leftist’s requests for help from the OSCE notwithstanding, cleaning up their own messes might be a better place to concentrate their efforts. America is not and will not become a political suburb of Europe.
