If Mitt Romney were looking for a way to finally unify the conservative base behind him, he’s done it.
Conservatives should be gleeful to see him jump back in the fray, so we can watch he and Jeb Bush race to the bottom in an establishment pre-primary. Slicing and dicing each other to pieces along the way.
For years now we’ve seen in the grassroots how having multiple candidates vying for the same supporters divides your donors, operatives, and voters to the point you can’t unite behind someone in time to capture the nomination. It will be fun to watch the aristocracy cannibalizing itself for a change.
Romney’s foray into the field buys conservatives time to get it right this time. Ironically enough, if we finally accomplish our goal of elevating the first movement conservative to the GOP nomination since Reagan, we may have Romney to at least partially thank for that.
