The Lyin’ King has accomplished much during his Imperial presidency thus far. None of it good. The most recent deed is his mishandling of Syria. He is gagging to better Bill Clinton’s futile bombing of an Iraqi aspirin factory in order to look tough. So, he swore to attack Syria, with or without Congressional approval. Until Saturday.
According to The Wall Street Journal: “…he has decided he should order a limited military strike against Syria, but in a move laden with political and diplomatic implications, he agreed in an about-face to solicit authorization for the mission from Congress… (The) Rose Garden statement brought an unusually sudden halt to a military mobilization that for days had appeared on the cusp of a bombardment of Syria as punishment for its alleged use of chemical weapons on Aug. 21 that killed more than 1,400 people…It also marked a jarring shift as president…whose senior aides have been saying that he would not seek congressional authorization and that he had the legal right to order the start of military strikes.” He’s been saying that, too. And doing that. Bypassing Congress is, according to him, “business as usual.” This last bit is no surprise to anyone who has been conscious for the last, five-plus years. The Imperial President has been getting away with dismantling the separation of powers, particularly the powers of Congress, for that entire time.
Charles Krauthammer had nothing but derision for Our Dear Leader last week, dismissing any constructive rationale for an attack on Syria: “It has no purpose whatsoever. Unless it is to assuage the guilty conscience of a president. Or vindicate the vanity of a president who’s become a laughingstock around the world and whose word means nothing … Maybe he feels compelled as a way to vindicate himself, but you don’t take a country into war as a way to vindicate your own standing,” Krauthammer added the word “hypocrite” on that occasion. After the Rose Garden recoil, Krauthammer, in The Daily Caller, described The Lyin’ King’s handling of the Syria mess as “amateur hour”: “He (The Lyin’ King) says, ‘I can strike in a day or a week or a month,’ as if he is a judge handing down a sentence and the execution can be any time in the future. There is a war going on. Do you think everybody is going to hold their breath, hold their arms, step aside until Obama decides when he wants to go to Congress?”
Sneers have been launched at America, world-wide. Allies such as England and Germany, and soon-to-be France, are refusing to go along with a Syrian attack. Israel is increasingly at risk. Syria, after al-Assad’s pre-teen son accused The Lyin’ King of wetting his Pampers, is now crowing that this is “the start of the historic American retreat.” The Putin administration is set to capitalize on the regime’s walk-back of foolish saber-rattling; they compared The Lyin’ King to “a monkey with a hand grenade” only last week. Without a comeback from the notoriously egotistic Nobel Peace Prize Recipient in Chief.
The Lyin’ King believes only what he wants to believe. If he wants to declare war unilaterally, he will. Even the startling disclosure by Syrian rebels, to the Associated Press, won’t stop him: “Syrian rebels … have admitted …that they were responsible for last week’s chemical weapons incident which western powers have blamed on Bashar Al-Assad’s forces, revealing that the casualties were the result of an accident caused by rebels mishandling chemical weapons provided to them by Saudi Arabia.”
So, what could be causing the Imperial president to seek Congressional approval now? It probably isn’t a walk in the Rose Garden with his advisors that caused the change of heart. More likely, it’s an effort to diffuse blame for the situation brought about by presidential hoof-in-mouth disease. Uber-liberals, like Dennis Kucinich, have been making “impeachment” noises should The Lyin’ King act without Congressional authority. What Senator No-Show would have denounced, President Golfer is eager to enact. He would be doing Al-Qaeda’s dirty-work and needlessly putting American lives at risk.
The election and reelection of The Lyin’ King guaranteed that America would face world-wide disrespect. That he is the butt of international contempt is this fiasco’s only bright spot.
