I once was asked by a very brilliant and wise Professor “What do you think should be the most important job of our Federal Government?” I really had to stop and think about this question because there are lots of things I believe the Federal Government should and should not be doing. But the question is “what is the most important job” of our Federal Government? So, I did some research and some digging then I came up with the following answer.
In my humble opinion, the most important job of our government is “to protect its people by providing justice to all its citizens.” Even though the next comment was not part of the question, I felt obligated to say the following: “In addition, I believe the government needs to protect its citizenry from foreign invaders.”
Our U.S. Government must apply Justice equally and defend itself from those who will do us harm. If our government will not do this, then what is the purpose of our government? As stated by the United States Constitution, there must be an accepted establishment of what the government stands for and what it promises to do for its citizens. Here is the preamble of our U.S. Constitution:
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” (http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution_transcript.html)
The remainder of the U.S. Constitution explains how the government should operate. But the most important aspect, per the question, is based on something our forefathers knew intimately well. They studied and knew what was written by Plato about democracy and justice. Plato wrote “justice is a virtue” (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/justice-virtue/) and our U.S. Federal Government should be for “equal Justice for every citizen for all laws.” Our U.S. Constitution also established what ‘rights’ we have as citizens and what ‘rights’ the government has. Let us not be fooled by those who are fools.
Today, we have moved far away from what our founding fathers established for us as Nation. Our current Justice Department, under President Obama, constantly picks and chooses which laws they want to follow. Just look at the ACA (Affordable Care Act) Laws they are constantly changing. What this means is that because of what President Obama himself is doing, we are becoming a nation of lawlessness. How are we to follow the laws of this nation if the people in charge of our nation are not following the laws of what they are implementing?
The answer the wise Professor said to me was “Spot on, Dan … don’t let anyone silence you. This message must go forth!” So in my opinion, those of us who are reading this article are probably the last constitutionally literate generation that will be around in the U.S. for a long time. There is an article referenced below where someone else also believes we are the last literate generation as well. In addition, I urge each of you to please read the U.S. Constitution and it will be obvious how far we have gone away from “Justice for all.”
What we must do in these next political elections is to win back our Nation from the Progressives even if we do not totally agree with the Conservatives.
