In Part 1, I showed the current Republican nominations for President and Vice President, while not perfect, should give Patriots plenty of reasons to celebrate.  In this column, I’ll show that they have an excellent supporting cast.  We must not forget that plenty of House and Senate seats are also up for grabs.

Mike Huckabee

The former Alabama governor set the stage by denouncing Obama’s war on individual initiative:

“It was Barack Obama who said, ‘You didn’t build it.’”

This former pastor should also have helped assuage the remaining evangelicals who don’t want to vote for a Mormon by showing who the real enemy of the faith is in this election.  Although Obama pretended to be a Christian to dupe gullible churchians, Huckabee showed that the only “god” Obama worships is the one in his mirror:

“He supports changing the definition of marriage.  Believes that human life is disposable and expendable at any time in the womb, even beyond the womb.  And he tells people of faith that they have to bow their knees to the god of government and violate their faith and conscience in order to comply with what he calls “health care”.  Friends I know we can do better.”

Artur Davis

This Former Democrat and Congressman of Alabama, almost stole the show when he explained why he had switched parties:

“Who knew the plain English version of it [Obama’s promises] was, ‘middle America, get ready to shell out 60 bucks to fill up your car?’

“And in terms of their crown jewel legislative achievement: who knew that when asked, ‘will government impose a new federal mandate requiring middle class Americans to buy health insurance whether they can afford it or not?’

“The answer would be ‘Yes we can!’”

He showed exactly what the underlying problems with today’s Democrats are: trampling on this great nation, setting one American against the other, and encouraging some people to live off the hard work of others—appropriate for the historical party of slavery:

“When they tell you America is this unequal place where the powerful trample on the powerless, does that sound like the country your children or your spouse risked their lives for in Iraq or Afghanistan?

“Do you even recognize the America they are talking about? And what can we say about a house that doesn’t honor the pictures on its walls?

“John F. Kennedy asked us what we could do for America. This Democratic Party asks what can government give you. Don’t worry about paying the bill, it’s on your kids and grandkids.

“Bill Clinton took on his base and made welfare a thing you had to work for; this current crowd guts the welfare work requirement in the dead of night.

“Bill Clinton, Jack Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson reached out across the aisle and said meet me in the middle; but their party rammed through a healthcare bill that took over one-sixth of our economy, without accepting a single Republican idea, without winning a single vote in either house from a party whose constituents make up about 50 percent of the country.”

Mia Love

The first black mayor in Utah is married with three children and a pro-life fiscal conservative.  She is also the daughter of poor Haitian (legal) immigrants who worked hard to pay for Mia’s college education.  Her father told her:

“Mia, your mother and I have done everything we could to get you here. We’ve worked hard. We’ve never taken a handout. You’re not going to be a burden to society. You will give back.”

Condoleeza Rice

Dr. Rice is another outstanding woman, who is an accomplished concert pianist and former university professor and provost.  Professor Rice reminded us of how America has historically been a bastion of freedom, defeating the Soviet Union.  America’s private charities have helped many around the world.  However, this is endangered by the destruction of our economy by this President and the Dems with their mad borrowing and spending, abandoning free trade.  And although this country is “blessed with a gift of oil and gas resources”, the Dems block its use, keeping us dependent on countries which hate us.  And Condi reminded us all of the great opportunities we have in this country, even if we start off poor as she did:

“A little girl grows up in Jim Crow Birmingham. The segregated city of the south where her parents cannot take her to a movie theater or to restaurants, but they have convinced her that even if she cannot have a hamburger at Woolworths, she can be the president of the United States if she wanted to be and she becomes the secretary of state.”

That is, Democrats, historically the party that preserved racism, still pretend that America is still racist, so blacks can’t achieve without government handouts.  Condi electrified the crowd by showing how the real America enables people to beat the racism and discrimination of the past.

Susana Martinez

The successful Governor of New Mexico, another pro-life fiscal conservative, how she grew up in a poor but hard-working and patriotic, pro-gun Hispanic family, and built their own business from scratch:

“My parents grew that small business-from one 18-year-old guarding a bingo-to more than 125 people in three states.  And sure, there was help along the way.  But my parents took the risk. They stood up.  And you better believe that they built it.

And Gov. Martinez explained what America means to her:

“Growing up I never imagined a little girl from a border town could one day become a governor.  But this is America.  Y en America  todo es posible.”

Yet the Governor is a fairly recent convert to the Republican banner (1995).  She explained that her family were habitual Democrats.  It was two Republicans who changed her mind when they took her and her husband out for lunch. Or rather, made her realize that the Republicans reflected her American values best:

“We talked about many issues, like welfare, is it the way of life or a hand up? Talked about size of government, how much should it tax families and small businesses?  And when we left that lunch, we got in the car and I looked over at Chuck and said, ‘I’ll be damned. We’re Republicans.’”

A great story that the convention loved.  And what an example to follow for Patriots with their friends!

Democrats and their Leftmedia allies go mad

As usual, instead of addressing the strong points made by these excellent speakers, unhinged liberals denounced Mia Love as an ‘Aunt Tom’ for daring to leave the Democratic plantation.

And the Leftmedia is so determined to portray the Republicans as racist that they have refused to credit these fine people.  MSNBC cut coverage of both Davis and Love, as well as coverage of Hispanics like Tea Party candidate Ted Cruz of Texas, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, and Puerto Rican Governor Luis Fortuno’s wife Luce’ Vela Fortuño.  And Leftmedia personalities like Chris Matthews are just barking mad, looking for anything to denounce as a “racist code word”, as Mark Steyn skewered in his imitable style.

There are many more convention stars to mention, including one of my favorite movie stars, Clint Eastwood, with his humorous mock interview with Obama in absentia.

Democrats and entitlements

Let’s also compare the above stars with the Democratic keynotes.   This is just a love fest for abortionists, and their “star” is Sandra Fluke, a 30-something who’s still a student, whose motto is: “my body, my choice, your money.” She’s too gutless to debate conservative women.  We’ve not heard if the Dems have invited the abortionist Ron Virmani who loves to abort “ugly black babies”.

Patriots can only hope that the Republicans keep up their momentum till that key day in November!
