It’s been rumbled about in Iowa for weeks that Ron Paul’s supporters were going make a strong play for delegates, and Jennifer Jacobs and Craig Robinson write that it became official today, with the Texas congressman faring well in the first round of selection of delegates to go to the Tampa convention.

This was for 13 at-large delegates, and the list as it is now, Robinson notes, would give Paul 10 of the state’s 28 delegates.

A similar scene was playing out all day in Nevada – and is still going – with Paul and Mitt Romney’s camp jostling at the state’s GOP convention, as the congressman’s backers tried to push for a bigger cut of delegates.

Paul has organization and energized supporters at the grassroots level, who tend to fare well at state conventions. This is why Paul is going to remain someone the party has to deal with – and why Romneyland may need to be minddful of who from each state ends up on the RNC’s platform committee.
