President Obama yesterday urged Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act which will have a cloture vote today in the U.S. Senate. 60 votes will be needed for cloture which will then allow the full Senate to debate the legislation and then have an up or down vote.
In the United States, the average full-time working woman makes .77 cents for every dollar made by her male counterpart. The Paycheck Fairness Act, if passed, updates an act from 1963 which protects against sex-based pay discrimination. It would allow women to receive the similar remedies as though discriminated on race or ethnicity.
