“What luck for rulers that men do not think.” – Adolph Hitler

Remember the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial? Well, near the end of the movie the young Elliot desperately tries to avoid the pursuing authorities. He has to quickly get E.T. to an important rendezvous. A rescue ship from his home planet was on the way. The government had other plans for E.T. Elliot attempts to explain his plans to his friend Greg who apparently has watched too many movies. The conversation went like this:

Elliot: He’s a man from outer space and we’re taking him to his spaceship.
Greg: Well, Can’t he just beam up?
Elliot: This is “reality” Greg

Reality? What is that anymore? Today, reality is more what people say it is rather than what it actually is. We tend to believe words rather than what our senses tell us or what a person’s actions tell us. This is why sometimes I suspect someone is on drugs. I checked though, it’s definitely not me. I even gave up Afrin. I’m clean. Therefore, it must be “Them.”

As a Christian, I take the Bible as the source of reality. His truth is reality. The Bible says, for example, that God spoke things into existence. He did and he still does. He created the heavens and the earth by His words.

Now, men and women, at least the ones in Washington, think they can do the same thing. They think that if they declare something to be true, it is so.

Let me give you another great example of today’s reality from a film by Woody Allen called Bananas. You will be able to draw a close parallel from this excerpt to what we witness in Washington, D.C. Of course, the looniness is not contained within Washington, D.C. It can be found in your own City Hall or State Legislature. This goes double if you are in California.

The scene is set in a banana republic with a Castro-like figure ready to address his new subjects. The new dictator addresses the people. He declares:

Hear me! I am your new President. From this day on the official language of San Marcos shall be Swedish. Silence! In addition to that all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half hour. Underwear will be worn on the outside so we can check. Furthermore, all children under sixteen years old are now sixteen years old.

Our liberal friends think like this. They think, for example, if they take away our guns, we will all be safer. Yeah, like that really makes sense. This is insane thinking on its face. Remember the bad guys will always get guns. Remember history? Remember facts?

According to a December 15, 2012 article by Max Fisher and the Washington Post there are 270,000,000 privately owned firearms in the United States. There is no way to keep all of these out of the hands of criminals even if they were banned. Even if it were possible, the bad guys would still get them from Mexico or somewhere else. And, again, we have to remind ourselves of the truth and override the propaganda of the left. Hold on to this thought:

GUNS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. PEOPLE ARE. IT’S A SOCIAL, CULTURAL ISSUE, NOT A GUN ISSUE. GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

In all these years, I’ve never heard anyone say they were afraid to go into a gun store because they were afraid a gun would shoot them. Have you?

Here is the scenario that would happen again and again in a future America without guns. I know because it happens other places with strict gun laws, like Chicago.

I’ll just use me as an example. A bad guy breaks into my home and shoots me. He takes my stuff and I’m dead. Now, the only other people left with guns are the federal government agencies and state and local law enforcement. So, one of these government agencies with guns will then track down the bad guy with guns and arrest him. Sounds great, except I’m still dead!

I strongly prefer another scenario. The bad guy breaks into my home and I shoot him. Now, he’s dead. Don’t get me wrong. I have no desire to shoot anyone, but if I have to choose I’d rather him be dead than me. How about you? What’s your preference?

Guns are not the only issue that gets approached with proposed solutions that make no sense. It’s bad enough that our leaders propose these things. It’s worse that the majority of Americans seem to go along with them. Drugs maybe?

If we put aside the endless political rhetoric, those impassioned speeches that use children, the homeless, or gun shot victims as props, and take a sober look at reality something ain’t right.

If we take an inventory of the social, legal, and political changes that have taken place over the last fifty years we look like a country gone mad. Over this time period, we decided it was harmful and wrong to read the Bible or pray in schools. Then, we concluded that it was ok to kill our babies.

As time progressed, we reevaluated our cultural belief about homosexuality. Homosexual activity was considered a clear sin in the fifties and sixties, and a crime (at least in Georgia). It has in almost all cultures, except the ones going to the trash heap, been considered wrong and destructive to society. Simply, when a nation rejects God, that nation begins its journey down and maybe out.

If we are not on drugs today, then we are either hypnotized or mind controlled. We act irrationally. Today, words and actions rarely match.

Remember the “words” of President Obama, and the other liberal voices, when pitching Obamacare? Now, what are the subsequent results of the Affordable Health Care Act now that it is passed? Can we all keep our doctors? Can we keep our current insurance policy? Have premiums gone down as promised? Mine are up, way up. Some people have had theirs nearly double. And, do you think in 2014 when thirty million new people are put in the system with a doctor shortage already here, that you will get in to see your doctor within a few days as you can now? Dream on.

A more important point is that any middle school graduate should be able to run the numbers and know the things that were promised could not be true. We are not thinking America!

Another question, who is running this country? This will get various answers of course, but based on outcomes a good majority must be idiots. A friend sent me an email this week. It was fairly long, but below is a small sample. I think you will get the point. This is the new reality. It presupposes that our leaders are lacking common sense smarts. They are missing some other things too I’m afraid:

You know you live in a country run by idiots if…You can be arrested for expired tags on your car, but not for being in the country illegally.

You know you live in a country run by idiots if…A seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for calling his teacher “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly permissible.

You know you live in a country run by idiots if…That the Supreme Court of the United States can rule that lower courts cannot display the Ten Commandments in their courtroom, while sitting in front of a display of the Ten Commandments.

You know you live in a country run by idiots if…Children are forcibly removed from parents who appropriately discipline them, while children of “underprivileged” drug addicts are left to rot in filth-infested cesspools.

The first question we have to ask is, “Why do we put idiots into office in the first place?” Then the next question is, “Why do we let them stay there year after year to continue the idiocy?” These are valid questions, if you are not on drugs.

In a moment I want to share a few examples of idiocy demonstrated by some of our elected officials. These should make you sleep with the lights on. Now, I understand, I get it, that some people are uneducated, some are not smart, some are ignorant of facts, and some are just idiots. I don’t judge these people for what they are. I just don’t want them running the country. And, we, the people, are just as guilty for letting them.

God made all kinds of people and I don’t mean to be unkind to any, but these are people who run the Washington Asylum. These are the people who control you and me to a large degree through crazy laws and mountains of regulations. These people have power, a lot of power.
.
Now here are two good examples to make my point. You are probably familiar with them but they are worth repeating. There are many more examples on both sides of the isle. Party doesn’t play a part here:

Remember the Congressional inquiry when Representative Hank Johnson questioned Admiral Robert F.Willard about the island of Guam? During this session Congressman Johnson stated that he was concerned about the fate of the island of Guam where we have a massive military presence. You will never guess what sparked his concern.

The Congressman, after defining the size of the island, stated that his specific worry was that the island would become overpopulated and then “capsize.” The Admiral is a better man than I am. I would not have been able to contain my laughter. He, fortunately, was able to fully control his reaction. The short clip of the interview is available here.

More recently, we all know the great line spoken by Representative Nancy Pelosi concerning the Affordable Care Act. She told us that we had to pass it so we could see what’s in it. This is the Speaker of the House that tells us this. Doesn’t that comment in itself indicate that no one read it? They didn’t and they don’t care either. They exempted themselves from its draconian measures. I’m shocked!

What’s funny is that now many of the Democrats who crammed this law down our throats have read the bill and they are in a state of panic. They want parts of it removed. This is going to get their constituents mad.

Carl Bernstein, a liberal journalist, sums all this up nicely. He actually gets it right.

We are in the process of creating what deserves to be called the idiot culture. Not an idiot sub-culture, which every society has bubbling beneath the surface and which can provide harmless fun; but the culture itself. For the first time, the weird and the stupid and the coarse are becoming our cultural norm, even our cultural ideal.”
