I overload on political lies a few times every year. This Holiday Season I plan to focus on family and pie, ignoring the liars that surround us. I also think a brief catalog of recent prevarications may help explain this loss of fortitude; when lies become the rule rather than the exception a sense of helplessness sets in. It can happen to a whole people.
It might seem that we voted in a new majority in both houses, but in reality we just lied to ourselves. By passing the Cromnibus funding bill John Boehner has castrated that majority. There is no power of the purse because everything is funded for another year. When Congress promised to rein in spending they were lying.
On November 5th John Boehner said “Obamacare is hurting our economy, it is hurting middle-class workers, and it’s hurting the ability to create more jobs.” Old John wouldn’t lie, would he?
Last week I read this by Terrence Jeffery at CNSNews.com. “House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama joined forces today to push their respective party members to provide 219 votes–one more than was needed–to ensure passage of an omnibus government funding bill that permits the administration to spend money implementing Obamacare and Obama’s planned unilateral actions that will effectively amnesty as many as five million illegal aliens.” John, you lied.
So we’ve got plenty of liars on our side of the field. Voting Republican means nothing because as we speak Mitch McConnell and John McCain are draping their arms over each and every incoming member of Congress and explaining to them how this whole rip off of citizens works. They speak in hushed tones, but the rookies get the message. Assuredly, they get the message.
You voted for change, but you are only going to receive whispered lies from Republicans.
Democrats never whisper. They yell, they bleat, they rage, they stink.
Three autopsies showed that Michael Brown did not have his hands up. The truth is lost and a lie becomes the symbol of a protest. Wait, therein is another lie; calling a lootfest a protest is a lie. The lies pile up fast, don’t they?
Eric Garner died because The Empire State Storm Troopers were sent to ensure that every penny of cigarette tax is collected. Someone called it the illegalization of everyday life. Politicians refer to it as sin tax, and they used it to break the 6th commandment.
Our old pal, Jonathan Gruber, testified before Congress that he was “glib”, “insulting” and “speaking well beyond my abilities” when he called American voters stupid and said Obamacare backers had to lie to get the ACA passed. I think that “glib”, “insulting” and “speaking well beyond my abilities” are lies choreographed by a lawyer. Call me cynical.
Gruber also denied he was an architect of the ACA, or even a very important part of the health care conversation. Some 4 million dollars in “consulting” fees paid to Gruber would, in any other age, deem this assertion a lie.
In reality, Gruber is mere novitiate in the art of lying.
Want to see an expert? Try Sabrina Rubin Erdely, who wrote “A Rape on Campus” for Rolling Stone Magazine. It turns out that the article should have been called “A Pack of Lies Liberals Will Love and Quote Forever about Fictional Rapes on Campus”. Were you expecting the truth from a magazine named after a rock and roll band? This author-journalist-writer-liar has a website which states that: “Sabrina Rubin Erdely is an award-winning feature writer and investigative journalist, and a Contributing Editor at Rolling Stone. Her work has also appeared in SELF, GQ, Philadelphia, The New Yorker, Mother Jones, Glamour and Men’s Health, among other national magazines. Her articles have been anthologized in Best American Magazine Writing and have received a number of awards, including two National Magazine Award nominations.”
Now you know which publications to avoid if you prefer truth to lies. And which publications prefer lies to truth.
Here’s a holiday surprise; a 40 million dollar report written by the staff of Diane Feinstein may not necessarily contain 40 million dollars’ worth of truth. The report basically says that democrats were not aware of the interrogation methods being used on suspected terrorists, and that these methods are barbaric, uncivil, uncouth, ineffective, a stain on the American soul, not who we are, not who we aspire to be, and no chocolate chip cookie.
With a 40 million dollar budget did these fine, upstanding representatives of who we are and what we aspire to be interview CIA officials who ran the program? Nah, that wouldn’t further the narrative. We don’t aspire to be fair, that’s not who we are. Go ask the editors at Rolling Stone Magazine. They will gladly not fact check and lie for Feinstein and Pelosi.
Jose Rodriguez, who was the last CIA deputy director for operations (DDO) before that position was expanded to D/NCS in December 2004, said “I remember very clearly briefing Nancy Pelosi in September of 2002.” Someone is lying.
Don’t you just love the left speaking of who we are, what we aspire to be, what is in our hearts one moment, and calling us racist gun clinging homophobic Islam hating SOB’s the next? I think lefties are all manic-depressives or liars. Either way, they have no clue who I am.
As far as I can see we are now a country made up of lies. Quiet lies, loud lies, a tapestry of lies.
Wait…I smell something baking. Hope springs eternal. Just don’t offer me a slice of mock apple pie. I might go to pieces.
