Missouri voters head to the polls Tuesday to choose between a crowded field of candidates in the state’s GOP Senate primary, the winner of which will face off against Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill in November.
Businessman John Brunner, former state treasurer Sarah Steelman and Rep. Todd Akin have been battling for the nomination in the Show Me State.
Brunner, former manufacturing CEO and former Marine, was ahead of the crop of candidates in a recent poll. According to the Mason-Dixon survey conducted at the end of July, 33% of likely Republican primary voters said they would back Brunner, while 27% picked Steelman and 17% chose Akin.
The businessman also has a fund-raising advantage over his opponents, having raised $7.6 million this cycle, with a quarter-million coming from his own pocket.
