To this day I still remember where I was on September 11, 2012 when I found out about the terrorist attack in Benghazi that left four Americans dead. I was in the waiting room of my local doctor’s office a little after 2:30 PM when I got the CNN Breaking News message about an attack on the Benghazi “Consulate.” I can remember. However, no one seems to remember where either our President or Secretary Of State was while this attack was unfolding. The next few weeks the Obama Administration spent time trying to tell the American people this was a “spontaneous protest” due to an “anti-Islamic YouTube video.” Well that’s just one incident right?

On December 14, 2010 Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was shot and killed by drug traffickers along the Arizona-Mexico border. Found at the scene were two rifles that were linked to an operation by the ATF, or the Bureau Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that sent around 2,000 firearms to drug cartels to be tracked. This operation was apparently sanctioned by the Justice Department, led by Attorney General Eric Holder. Four years later we still do not know too much about the incident, with Holder giving Congress a hard time about both handing over key documents and testifying. Holder was actually found in Contempt of Congress, but still insists on arguing with Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert over asparagus. Well it’s just Holder, right?

In 2013 America’s least favorite government agency, the Internal Revenue Service, was accused of targeting Conservative political groups. At the head of this scandal is Lois Lerner, the head of IRS Exempt Organizations Division. It was noted that the IRS was not allowing tax exempt status to organizations that were Conservative, Tea Party, or pro-Israel just to name a few. Lerner has been asked to testify in front of Congress multiple times, but has not spoken when asked, pleading the 5th each time. However, new documents have connected Lerner and the targeting to Washington D.C., showing it wasn’t just Lerner involved in this.

Now we have the latest scandal with the VA.VA Secretary Eric Shinseki has stepped down following calls from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. Lawmakers have also called for Holder to step down, and for President Obama, Secretary Clinton and Secretary Kerry to answer questions about Benghazi. However, the answers Congress and the American people seek have been hard to receive. Each time a question arises, it either takes a long time to be answered or it’s not answered at all. To me this shows a growing lack of competence in Washington. Secretary Shinseki obviously never meant for anyone to die while waiting for care, Attorney General Holder didn’t mean for the weapons from the Fast and Furious scandal to be used to murder American citizens and law enforcement officers. Secretary Clinton’s lack of oversight of her own agency leading up to the Benghazi attack didn’t mean she wanted the attack to happen.

The point is this administration, Barack Obama’s administration, an administration that came in with the promise of hope and change, has proven to be incompetent. When times are tough the leaders seem to duck and cover and allow lower level workers to take the fall for the failure to lead. Why didn’t Secretary Shinseki attempt to fix the broken VA system? Why didn’t Secretary Clinton respond to Christopher Stevens’ request for more security? They didn’t want to make their departments look bad. They didn’t want to make it seem like they had slipped up before. Secretary Shinseki didn’t want to acknowledge the neglect; Secretary Clinton didn’t want to acknowledge that the rebels they armed could turn on them. However, worst of all, these administrators and their boss, President Obama did not know how to respond to these issues. Lack of experience has not helped President Obama in his time in office, and the people he surrounded himself with did not help either.

There is a lack of competence in the White House right now, from the top down. Our leaders are not leading as they should. If President Obama, Susan Rice and Secretary Clinton had come out and stated that what happened in Benghazi was indeed a terrorist attack by the very rebels we had mistakenly armed rather than lie for over two weeks, we possibly would be having a different discussion. However, this incompetence continued, and that is why we have the VA situation right now. Hopefully with Secretary Shinseki’s resignation the VA will see true reform that will help our Veterans who deserve our utmost respect.
