A Vancouver man pleaded not guilty this afternoon to federal charges that he sent threatening letters to congressional members last month and included false and misleading information as part of a hoax.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Dennis Hubel set a June trial date for Christopher Lee Carlson, 39. A hearing to determine whether he should remain in custody was set for April 5.

Federal prosecutors allege that Carlson sent letters including white powder last month to U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md.
